The soundtrack from Dirty Harry is Lalo Shifrin's best work, as badass as the film is, just listen to this.

Dirty Harry was written by John Milius, otherwise known as the director of Conan.

He was one of the few right wing, libertarian directors in Hollywood, of course called fascist by the left. He was blacklisted by Hollywood not long after. Go watch Conan by the way, it is one of the best films ever made.

Love the "Dirty Harry" clips. One of my very favorites: that is, the original movie. All the sequels I can do without, but that original movie just had something special. Maybe it's:

The role of Scorpio was played perfectly by Andy Robinson (the son of the great Edward G. Robinson). Just perfectly played. You just want to see this guy get his comeuppance.

The great '70s soundtrack. At first I thought it was hopelessly dated. Now I love that '70s West Coast funk soundtrack.

I think the broad is Tyne Daly from Cagny and Lacy. Her brother is Tim Daly from Wings and Sopranos.

Yes, it was Tyne Daly. Cagney and Lacey appeared in the 1980's, so this was years before.

I'm not the biggest movie type of guy, but even just from that clip I was very engaged as I did not know how it was going to go. That was good to watch.

Bullit is a mellower, jazzier soundtrack. Maybe a better movie. McQueen in that green Mustang is cool as fuck, but the Dirty Harry soundtrack has that really awesome American giallo vibe.
