If the Dems take most of Trump's position except softer on immigration & free college / loan forgiveness & put anyone halfway likable to fucking white males it is a very tough contest for Trump.

I just stumbled upon this thread and saw "Democratic Party is imploding" and I call bullshit. In what way? The Democratic party much like the Republican party have the exact same problems. Both bases hate establishment politicians. I recall the Conservative base hating guys like Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio because they were Neo Con establishment politicians. See? Republicans fighting Republicans.

It's the same exact thing with the Democrats. The Progressive base hated Hillary Clinton because you guessed it, she's an establishment politician. No different than Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio. Would the Conservative base gotten behind Jeb Bush if he was the nominee instead of Trump? Probably not. Would that have meant that the Republican party was "imploding"? No.

The Liberal base simply didn't like Hillary since their guy was Bernie Sanders so the Liberal base pretty much stayed home and didn't vote in the election and paved the way for a Trump victory.

I will go as far as to say that if Trump continues to break promises and continues to coddle up to Wall Street and snub his base who put him in office, then the Democrats are going to win in 2018 and he will be a one term president in 2020.

Bernie Sanders laid the map for the Democrat party if it wants to reign supreme. And I think the Democrat party realizes that right now. Hillary ran a horrible campaign that appealed to no one, except people who hate white males, and she was a few hundred thousand away from beating Trump. The Democratic Party is imploding, however they will regroup. How quickly and how effectively is the question. The old guard of Hillary, Bernie, and Biden will shuffle off before 2020, leaving perhaps Warren and a doddering and ineffectual Pelosi still around. I still think Corey Booker will be a threat as a presidential candidate. However, the thing they must address is whether they can achieve more than 40% of the white vote. At the moment they are not even attempting to be anything more than a coalition of aggrieved minorities. As such, as long as Trump holds his base - as he is doing so far - he will win reelection.
The changing demographics is real, and in 20 years it will be a different story. But for now, and for 2018-20, the Democrats look like they're fucked.

Demographics are also overrated.

The party of "minorities" thing isn't going to work forever for the Dems. It might win them another 10-15 years of elections in the future but eventually you'll have Muslims turning on Jews, Blacks turning on Whites, and Christian Hispanics turning on Muslims. The fault lines of the Dems are far more serious than the fault lines of Republicans.

The only thing holding the Dems together is hatred of Whitey, but that only goes so far. Once the Dems achieve power the divisions within their own party will reopen and fracture, just like it did in 2016. The Democratic party is built on sand, it has no real staying power. Their capacity for destruction, however, is still immense.

The real party of the future is the one who can unite America's Christians successfully. It would easily carry 60% of the Hispanic and White vote. It may have to be a party that allows open borders (if Trump cannot fix it) as well.

Where were all the new faces that could use some exposure and experience running for President? Once the current group retires, that's it. They don't have any real leaders ready to take over. The reason why the Dems ignored their base is the reason why the Dems are imploding. The fact is the establishment doesn't want to give concessions to the people, which means the party is dying.

The idea Bernie would have been a stronger candidate is highly questionable. First of all, he would have not gotten nearly as much money.

Although Bernie would have been stronger in the rust belt, he would have been weaker in places like Nevada, Florida, and Virginia.

Trump would have also crushed Bernie in the debates even more than he did with Hillary. I'm afraid you forget that Trump is the ultimate alpha male who can easily bully any man. Trump had more trouble against Hillary because as a woman, Trump had to turn down the meanness he used against Lyin Ted and Little Marco.

Although it's a nice pipe dream for Dems to believe Bernie would have won, it just doesn't match reality. Bernie would have been outspent, out performed, and easily painted as a expensive Communist who never worked a real job a day in his life. Bernie's track record in congress, while ideologically pure, is also low on achievements.

As has been discussed in the Trump thread many times, the reason Trump keeps the Goldman and Exxon people around is for a window into the elite world. He doesn't obey any of them.

But as for "POLICY," let's see here: it's early days yet. He's been on the job five months. And as such, he's been the target of non-stop harassment and treachery. He quite clearly intends to do everything in his platform. If he didn't, they wouldn't treat him this way. He has been slowed down by hostiles every step of the way. He hasn't deported anyone yet because dipshit judges (illegally) rescind his orders for travel bans. How can he finish a plan if he's being prevented from taking step one?

In any case, it'll happen. The Wall is coming, Mexico will pay for it in the end, the repatriations are coming, and you, She-bago need to go back too.

In the meantime, keep watching CNN. Wouldn't want you to not stay on top of the political science game.

The party of "minorities" thing isn't going to work forever for the Dems. It might win them another 10-15 years of elections in the future but eventually you'll have Muslims turning on Jews, Blacks turning on Whites, and Christian Hispanics turning on Muslims. The only thing holding the Dems together is hatred of Whitey, but that only goes so far. Once the Dems achieve power the divisions within their own party will reopen and fracture, just like it did in 2016. The Democratic party is built on sand, it has no real staying power.
