Graduates from Princeton’s 2012 class will not be able to attend a “Star Wars”-themed party in Stormtrooper gear due to fears that it will convey a racist message.
A rules committee organizing a five-year class reunion party in early June around the fictional “Star Wars” universe was contacted about characters allegedly inspired by World War II-era events. Subsequently, Stormtroopers will not be allowed.
An update sent to those who RSVP’d to an Eventbright invitation was obtained Tuesday by Heatstreet.
“A few of our classmates reached out expressing concerns over our choice to use Stormtroopers as our costume inspiration,” the email said. “We have been informed of the origin of this word and its connections to early- to mid-20th century Germany. This is something neither we nor anyone on your Reunion Committee were aware of, but something we take very seriously. Tonight we made the unanimous decision to remove these costumes.”
Individuals who already ordered a Stormtrooper costume through the committee were informed that they would receive a different outfit instead, Heatstreet reported.
This is the second time in recent months that “Star Wars” became tangled in historical debates about Nazi Germany. “Rouge One” writer Chris Weitz tweeted, “Please note that the Empire is a white supremacist (human) organization,” on Nov. 11 after Republican Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election.

As far as nazi inspired costumes, I guess the stormtroopers rank above these guys?

People at the time were asking — so if a kid wears a Darth Vader T-shirt, it's like wearing a Hitler T-shirt?

Or if you dress as a Stormtrooper for Halloween, it's like dressing as a Nazi?

Apparently the answer is . . . YES!

Hilarious that Stormtroopers (the Star Wars variety) have been around since 1977 and ABSOLUTELY NO ONE had any problem with them, until now.

Chris Weitz, did you even think about what you're saying? If whites are the only humans (in your mind), does than mean racial minorities are non-humans?

The Empire was always a human supremacist organization in both the Disney and Legends Canon. In the Expanded Universe, the Empire eventually opened the military service to aliens and females when they were the Imperial Remnant to expand their territory and influence. I guess Daala could be considered an SJW since she wanted women to be in the Empire.

Not like it was some kind of secret - Geroge Lucas himself confirmed that yes, the stormtroopers in Star Wars were inspired by the same in WW2 Germany.

Although my first thought as a kid watching the original Star Wars was "Ok, so why is the Empire so awful in the first place?" They never really explained what the rebels were rebelling against and i don't recall anybody being loaded into boxcars for the concentration camps.

By this train of logic :Shouldn't the german language be banned because it may allude to a certain war period therefore potentially influencing people into a certain ideology?
You never know if they really referring to a storm or to a certain type of combat!

I knew once a girl that said she hated German language from the bottom of the heart. When asked "Why?", she replied: "Because they were nazis in WW2!"
