IMDb (The Internet Movie Database) has banned ALL message boards
Just like a lot of the mainstream media (fake news) websites, Hollywood now doubles down on censoring the public's discussions, questions, and criticism of its endless false degenerate counterculture propaganda.

I am sure they won't be the last major website to do this.
Sites like Youtube may be next.

Quote:IMDb to shut down its messaging boards

'We have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide'

Roisin O'Connor

The Internet Movie Database message boards have been a place to discuss plot details, the best and worst scenes, and a myriad of other vaguely film-related issues, for almost two decades. The message board, which was introduced in 2001, is reportedly one of the most used services on the website. Despite that, the company has announced plans to shut it down as of 19 February. It claims the decision was based on traffic, as users turn to social media as their place of choice to discuss films. "After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide,” a statement on the site reads. "The decision to retire a long-standing feature was made only after careful consideration and was based on data and traffic." While its given reasons for shutting down the message boards were based on traffic.

IMDb is not the first website to close its comment sections. Various websites and online publications have closed their own comment sections citing concern over positive user experiences, and targeting harrassment, trolling, racism, sexism and homophobia. In its announcement, IMDb added that it understood the message boards were an important part of daily users’ visit, which is why the announcement was made weeks in advance. "Because IMDb's message boards continue to be utilised by a small but passionate community of IMDb users, we announced our decision to disable our message boards on February 3, 2017 but will leave them open for two additional weeks so that users will have ample time to archive any message board content they'd like to keep for personal use,” the statement reads. "During this two-week transition period, which concludes on February 19, 2017, IMDb message board users can exchange contact information with any other board users they would like to remain in communication with (since once we shut down the IMDb message boards, users will no longer be able to send personal messages to one another).

RE: IMDb (The Internet Movie Database) has banned ALL message boards
This isn't just the message boards that appeared under each film made that have been banned, but also every single message board that existed under the profile of every single actor, every actress, supporting actors, extras, cameo roles, directors, producers, distribution houses, or any other person, company, or organisation involved in the making or distribution of a film.

Couldn't just install an optional drop-down tab to otherwise hide this problematic material, right?

Obviously (((they))) are doubling down on their sad little efforts to control the narrative.

The message boards were pretty worthless discussion most of the time - but not all the time. Shame to see them go, I used to be a regular.

Kind of a bummer...even though a lot of the discussion was brainless on any given movie/person board I used it a lot through the years to find answers to questions about movies I would watch. People discussing ambiguous plot points, theories, etc or sharing trivia. It's bullshit they are just nuking it altogether for no real (stated) specific reason.

I'll miss the IMDB boards. I never posted on them, but they were the best way to get ideas of what other films were in a similar style or had the same themes.

They were completely filled with obsessives and crazies, and were the only big 'public' message boards that weren't totally SJW converged.

I get the feeling that this is a precursor to making "offensive" Internet comments illegal. Of course, the Left gets to define what's considered offensive - and we all know it's us. Another attempt to end the competing narrative.

It's already being done in other countries.

Hypothesis is a great way to combat this comment censorship and I hope it goes viral.

Mainly used through a Chrome extension, it allows commenting, annotating and highlighting on any webpage (sort of like making every website like Genius).

You can use it to make your own personal Wiki with private highlights or collaboratively in private groups or public to everyone.

It's hosted by a free speech organisation so there should be no censorship but it's fully open-source which would allow it to be hosted by others if necessary. Also adding in federation or IPFS support would decentralise control and further increase robustness vs censorship by ISPs or government.

At any rate it's currently one of the best potential tools for combating these Orwellian changes.

"She looks like...."

"Reminds me of....."

"Happy birthday ______!..."

"I went to school with ..."

Most any quality TV show of the past 10 years has a wikia page that answers any questions and explores random theories you may have about said show. Just google "Title of show + wikia".

Or go to reddit.

That's a shame, I really liked those boards to better understand some complex movies. Less reason to visit that site now. It seems this is their sacrifice to Globalism and and attempt to restrict free flow of information and opinions.

People were pointing out how many fake votes are on Wikipedia, movies like Arrival getting 8+ rating while majority reviews slammed it.

I was a member of almost 15 years of IMDB. When it came to discussion on anything related to Film Media, there was no better site. Each time I used to watch anything, I had a habit of viewing the IMDb discussion boards on what I just viewed. The discussion boards were great in knowing new, intricate details of the movies and shows or details about actors both known and unknown. My cinema knowledge was greatly enhanced through those boards. Even the trolling was fun and insightful at times, especially in the 'politics' board. There was no harm at all with the trolling. It was easy to ignore the troll threads that one didn't want to read on the discussion pages.

This move, plain and simple, is a restriction on free speech by Amazon of which IMDB is a subsidiary and Col Needham, IMDB's CEO cucked nicely. Ever since Gamergate, then Trump coming into the picture, things were shifting rapidly on IMDB. Anti-PC had became stronger and PC/Feminist/Leftist bullshit was strongly getting called, especially on boards of movies such as Star Wars Force Awakens etc and those of feminist attention whoring actresses. People were getting influenced and seeing the truth. The Right was winning.

Then starting this year, after Trump ascends into power , Amazon and its pet cuck Needham suddenly decide to close the boards down. How convenient.

Interestingly it also happened right before the Oscars. After the shitshow that happened on the Oscars this year, one can just imagine the kind of raucous discussions there would be going on right now if the boards were still active. The liberals and their opinions would be getting taken through the cleaners. Oscars would be a total mockshow on IMDB. Any person visiting the 'Movie Award', 'Film General', 'Politics' boards or movie/actor boards related to the oscars would easily see how pathetic current hollywood really is. That is how these discussion boards influenced people's thinking. There were a lot people reading those discussion boards; some who didn't even have an account and some who did have accounts but were only readers, in addition to the plenty active users who posted.

I agree there is no need of going to that site now. I haven't, since the boards closed down. For Film media info there is wikipedia and reddit and for ratings there are numerous better sites. Hopefully for film media discussions, a good substitute comes up soon.

I noticed this the other day. The boards were handy for finding out bits of trivia for tv shows. I guess I'm off to reddit for that then...

I made cinema the centerpiece of my life for over a decade. And never once read a thing on IMDB boards.

There are far better ways to get movie info out there. Sadly most modern film discussion is deadsville or cultural Marxist-ville.

IMDB was useful for those who of us who haven't made cinema the centerpiece of our lives - all (at least most) info in one place and conveniently browsable.

Anyone who has dedicated his life to cinema and knows other great places to get info and discussions on movies - share them on this thread!

I wonder if screenshots of these message boards has been archived somewhere.

Also, how long will it be until they remove the user reviews as well ?

Shame about this censorship, I really got a lot of value reading up on movies before watching them.
