Woody Allen on Pickup

Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Woody Allen is a beast. This movie, at the least, is an amazing lesson on "Pick up". Javier Bardem is a "Master Pick Up Artist" giving "Mystery" and "Style" a "run for their money". Banana

Agreed. Javier Bardem's character has very solid natural game.

Just finished watching the movie. Great movie.

I looked hard but I really don't consider Javier's approach have any game. At least not in a structured, PUA sort of way. The big advantage of his style is that not only he has successful approaches short-tem but also very rewarding relationships in the long-term.

What he did right was that he had higher value from the start (call it alpha, aggresive, direct, whatever). He was way higher value than the blonde and a bit higher value than the brunette causing the shit-tests.

After that all he had to do was not screw up.

Now compare that to when the brunette went out with her classmate. They were equally in value thus the classmate had very little chance with her (or would have to work much harder than Javier did).

I felt sorry for the beta husband. Way too needy (calling her all the time), and too much focus on materialistic bullshit as well as trying to impress his wife-to-be.

Some good lessons in that movie.

RE: Woody Allen on Pickup
I think Javier's character sets an example of "Natural Game". There is no structure in the sense of all of this pickup theory that you get from MM or whatever, because the situation works in his favor in many ways that get rid of the need for the typical push and pull.

These are two girls visiting a country for a summer, and that already changes the story up from your typical pickup. When you travel abroad, you see this all the time in Latin and Mediterranean countries where girls flock to these places to be worked the way Javier's character worked them. It's a famous thing in Italy where young German girls visit the beaches in hopes of being swooped by a tan casanova. Of course, if you know Italian men, this is no problem for them because they relish in this ritual of sorts.

What I think one can get from Bardem's character is his pure Alpha-ness. He doesn't let the situation surrounding him stop him from doing what he wants to do. He was at a table with friends, during dinner, and he just gets up and leaves them to swoop in these girls.

There is this part in Kierkegaard's Seducer's Diary where the character finding the Diary talks about there being certain characters who are a part of society, but not at the same time. They transcend it, and only use it to their advantage, but they are separate. This is where I think Bardem's character lies in the world. He is a part of society only as much as he can use it to his advantage. I think this is the world of many of the more interesting character's of our world.

Agreed with the above. Few things were in his favor when he did an approach (i.e. made him higher value)
1) He was a local when they were tourists
which means he can pull them into his reality

2) They were young and he was older
which means they were just looking for fun and more likely to say yes
and also means he's more experienced and knows what he wants

3) He already had attraction with the blonde before he approached (VERY important)
which means she would almost certainly agree.

So by inviting them to some other cool Spanish city he was taking them into his reality which is pretty lethal to attract chicks.

From that point on (after approach), he had higher value and can do whatever the fuck he wanted.

In my opinion Javier's situation is the perfect pickup. Too much favorable factors that almost guarantee a success.

Now let's say you're a gringo at a beach in Brazil, and trying to talk to two girls on the beach.
Your strategy would be different as you'd probably would need to be build attraction with them first, etc.

It's a bit hard to take them into your reality when you yourself are a tourist. You'd have to play off the foreigner card (ie, I'm American or I'm Italian) and hope that's favorable and then work from there.

It can and should work but different game.

Isn't this movie kind of 'proof' that everybody (esp women) wants to be seduced?

I liked the Painter's (Javier) confident approach and the honesty, and also his commitment to his art, he was not just 'a player'. No wonder both women fell for this driven 'make no apologies' type character. He also showed perseverance in a way that was non-pushy. He was caring too and listened to women and connected with them which is often lacking from the stereotype of the Alpha.

The DHV that he was a great artist was a real plus for him. But remember DHV like career or a car can be easily fucked up by poor self-image and self-apology, poor confidence etc...

Critics who panned this movie can suck my dick. I think its was well acted and interesting.

And now after reading your posts I would like to watch it again.

I have to agree that this movie was great, the character is what I really enjoy, not some dreaming character. I love the moment on where Allen is being direct and acting natural.
