Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
Woody Allen is a beast. This movie, at the least, is an amazing lesson on "Pick up". Javier Bardem is a "Master Pick Up Artist" giving "Mystery" and "Style" a "run for their money".
Agreed. Javier Bardem's character has very solid natural game.
Just finished watching the movie. Great movie.
I looked hard but I really don't consider Javier's approach have any game. At least not in a structured, PUA sort of way. The big advantage of his style is that not only he has successful approaches short-tem but also very rewarding relationships in the long-term.
What he did right was that he had higher value from the start (call it alpha, aggresive, direct, whatever). He was way higher value than the blonde and a bit higher value than the brunette causing the shit-tests.
After that all he had to do was not screw up.
Now compare that to when the brunette went out with her classmate. They were equally in value thus the classmate had very little chance with her (or would have to work much harder than Javier did).
I felt sorry for the beta husband. Way too needy (calling her all the time), and too much focus on materialistic bullshit as well as trying to impress his wife-to-be.
Some good lessons in that movie.

RE: Woody Allen on Pickup
I think Javier's character sets an example of "Natural Game". There is no structure in the sense of all of this pickup theory that you get from MM or whatever, because the situation works in his favor in many ways that get rid of the need for the typical push and pull.
These are two girls visiting a country for a summer, and that already changes the story up from your typical pickup. When you travel abroad, you see this all the time in Latin and Mediterranean countries where girls flock to these places to be worked the way Javier's character worked them. It's a famous thing in Italy where young German girls visit the beaches in hopes of being swooped by a tan casanova. Of course, if you know Italian men, this is no problem for them because they relish in this ritual of sorts.
What I think one can get from Bardem's character is his pure Alpha-ness. He doesn't let the situation surrounding him stop him from doing what he wants to do. He was at a table with friends, during dinner, and he just gets up and leaves them to swoop in these girls.
There is this part in Kierkegaard's Seducer's Diary where the character finding the Diary talks about there being certain characters who are a part of society, but not at the same time. They transcend it, and only use it to their advantage, but they are separate. This is where I think Bardem's character lies in the world. He is a part of society only as much as he can use it to his advantage. I think this is the world of many of the more interesting character's of our world.
