The geek fandoms are hobbies that encourage social isolation. MMORPG? Not going to help your social skills or waistline. Comic books? You're learning about other people always being the hero, but it doesn't require you to actually take action. Watching movies? Totally passive. That's the commonality in all of these things. They encourage lower testoserone because of inactivity. Also, they encourage those who are social misfits to congregate online instead of actually building social skills in the real world. They reinforce bad behavior, hence the heavy SJW underpinnings of most of these communities. Everyone is a fatty/SJW/freak, etc., so we're all normal!

There is no basis to say that the re-emergence of these topics has anything to do with Nazism, not at all, they borrowed heavily from Anglosphere ideas. Nazism was primarily a Germanic populist movement. None of its ideological basis is unique, only in application.

I wanted to comment more on how a lot of geeks don't really mature mentally past adolescence. I think social isolation is indeed a big part of it. Among geeks, there's a tendency to glorify being socially awkward and having social anxiety. There's this B-list celebrity named Felicia Day who made a career out of catering to geeks and nerds. In her autobiography she overemphasizes how awkward she was growing up since she was home-schooled and into geek things. Part of being in the real world as opposed to the fantasy constructed world of video games or young adult sci-fi/fantasy novels is that not only will you run into people who have different ideas on topics you might dearly care about but you will have to figure out how to get along with them whether it be at work or at social functions. Since a lot of these geeks lead Peter Pan-ish lives they usually end up avoiding these situations where they actually have to be fully-grown adults and hence never get any practice in the skills that comes with being a full functioning member of society.

I had lots of acquaintances cut me off in the past year over politics and the biggest determinant is NOT whether they are left leaning or not. To this day I still have plenty of liberal friends and acquaintances who I'll get into debates over without it damaging our relationship. Rather the common thread among the people who have unfriended or blocked me or otherwise cut ties with me is that they are involved in a geek fandom of some sort. Literally every single person that has cut me off has fit this description. I suspect that I'm literally the only Trump supporting person they know so it came as a shock that someone they know could hold different values from them.

I was home-schooled growing up, and it didn't affect my social abilities because my parents always made sure we were enlisted in things that forced me to communicate with others. Children are only socially isolated if the parents don't do the proper job of ensuring their cooperation and communication with others. These fandoms, with perhaps the rare convention in real life, don't do much to actually encourage people to meet in person. It is all about a fantasy world, not the real world. They are truly out of touch with the real world they live in, because in their mind, the fantasy world becomes the real world.

Based on the Junkie Relationships I've known, and that damaged people attract each other, I'd suspect a transactional quasi-relationship here, due to the vagueness about how exactly they met. Given the suicide, it could possibly be the exchange of drugs for sex where the drugs are used as a tool of control, particularly if he has poor game - the Hot Damaged Slut / Beta-As-Fuck Drug Supplier combination is really common.

Jesus Christ. I've always been a hardcore SF/F fan and I love fiction but if I was earnestly arguing with someone about real life being like Star Wars or Harry Potter and whether or not I was on the "dark side" I would pray for a fucking airplane to fall out of the sky onto both of us and anyone who witnessed that shameful display.

Standard popular fiction rarely even attempts to capture the complexity of real world events, and for good reason. But one would need to know a lot more history--real history, not the propaganda taught in high school--than the standard liberal dipshit to realize that.

I know a guy who is a massive star wars nerd. Don't know if he's ever had a girlfriend. Not bad looking, sings well, but is a total beta male. Engineering nerd on top of it all. Voted for Marco Rubio. He's all for the rapeugees because he thinks it is the Christian think to do.
