This is the kind of story I really like to hear.

Marine loses all four of his limbs in an IED (improvised explosive device) in Afghanistan. He's basically written off for dead.

Then he gets an infection that makes things worse. And to top it off, he finds out his wife has been cheating on him and spending all his money.

But he still fights back from the brink. And he wins.

No matter how bad it gets remember that there are a hell of lot of guys out there who have it much worse than we do.

When you see something like this, it really puts life and one's own petty problems in proper perspective. The fact he can go through all that and still have the strength to smile is a testament to his indomitable spirit.

I was just wallowing in self pity about some recent setbacks, apparently life has thrown jack shit at me compared to this man. I needed that Marine to put my pity party into perspective-If he can come back from that,my little bullshit is nothing. He is an inspiration.

7 years ago (almost to the day) I was deployed to Haiti as part of the relief effort in the wake of the massive earthquake that devastated the country. I worked in medical as a translator for the wounded we had to bring on board (we had the only functioning medical facility in the area.) One of my patients was a 12 year old girl named Vanesa. Her house collapsed, and a chunk of it crushed her leg so badly it needed to be amputated below the knee. She also suffered nerve damage and lost most of the function of her arms. When asked about her family, she wasn't sure what had happened to them; only that she hadn't seen them since before the quake.

She was the happiest girl I've ever met in my life.

She would spend the day sitting up in bed singing, joking with other patients and translators, and would even play little pranks on some of the nurses and corpsmen. She did everything she could to brighten the days and weeks of everyone in the ward, and enjoyed every minute of it.

One of the chiefs I worked with at the time said something that's stuck with me: "If God wouldn't give us anything we couldn't handle, what does that say about us compared to these people?" How trivial are the problems that cripple us emotionally? How insignificant are the offenses that drive us insane? If we were placed in a similar situation, would we be as strong?

Sorry for the brief digression. I like stories like this that remind us to keep everything in perspective.

This kind of shit chokes me up hard.

I'd like to point out a fact that a lot of people lose sight of and that is the resiliency of the human spirit. Everything is relative, and one can only go so low and it's very easy to bounce back. We all have things that can stress us out or get us down, and in our own perspective one's person's problems can appear far worse/not as bad than our own. Again it's all about perspective. Dan Blitz touches on this when he was on the Joe Rogan podcast how things are not always as they seem depending on where you are looking at it from.

This is a beautiful story and this guy's life changed directions quite possibly for the better. He has a new lease on life and likely a new found respect and appreciation for the smaller simpler things that a lot of us may take for granted.

It's the kind of story that reminds you to be humble and know that there is so much to always be happy about and grateful for. Sweating insignificant shit is very endemic to Western civilization where financial, social, and professional status are weighed so heavily. These are purely social constructs that really have little to no bearing in governing true human happiness.

This shit hits really close to home.

One my good marine buddies basically lost oxygen to his brain in a training accident.

He was married, had a child about to pop out, and just got rotated back from Iraq.

He was in a coma for a few months I drove everyday almost an hour each way to see him until my trucks engine began to give out.

I still visited but not as often, then he finally woke up.

He had the same personality, but motor skills were gone, wheelchair bound, mostly blind, speech slurred, but I still talked shit to him like nothing changed, I like to think it helped keep reminding him of all his old memories. (I'd bring up stories about funny ass drunk times we had, bitches we banged, etc.)

It turns out his wife at the time of his coma found solace in another marines arms and cheated on him for awhile, keep in mind, she was pregnant, and cheated on him after birth. (After the wait period)

My buddy eventually was transferred to a long term brain trauma rehab facility, which was out of the way, but I still saw him and got my friends to go visit him. (Lots flaked).

We've helped fundraise for him and raise awareness.

Eventually he filed for divorce with the help of his parents, he still got to see his daughter, but the worst thing was that bitch took alot of the money he got for the accident.

At this time she was dating a friend of ours, they eventually married, none of us liked her, she did although to her credit let their daughter visit him. She's still a cunt.

My buddy is doing better, has some motor skills back, but unfortunately he might of plateaued besides some miracle breakthrough in science happens.




If you think you're having a shitty day, keep in mind, if you're breathing, you're doing okay.

Hoes aren't loyal, only your buddies will be.

Military cheating wives at this point are a fact of life. Jodys have entered the folklore. My cousin's wife cheated on him while he was deployed. I overheard a conversation in a club outside Fort Hood, Wild Country, which was known as Milf Country:
-Are you married?
-No!
-I can't talk to you. *walks away*

I got so many infidelity stories from my deployment, it's ridiculous.

@MOVSM I was a Jody once, but she claimed they were broken up (they weren't married/engaged).

I accidentally dropped that I hooked up with her to her friend at a party, her friend said, yeah right, she's got a BF in X (tropical country).

I shrugged, I wasn't surprised she was a hoe, I fucked her once more.

Agreed. Some of the biggest guttersluts I've met in life have been the girlfriends/wives of active-duty servicemen. The sad thing is, I think these guys just like the idea of having someone waiting for them at home while they're away on deployment -- but they should really do a much better job screening. On a related note, these predatory women often target military men because they are forced to marry them should they wind up pregnant...which, let's face it, is probably more often a deliberate act than an accident.
