Yes, the lesson is that in the US apps are pervasive and stupid, just like social media, they provide the illusion of real friends, social groups and circles --- and are anything but. Subconsciously no one trusts them because they aren't live and therefore aren't real.

Aziz ansari needs a different kind of game because of his looks. VK had a post about that years ago that got me to realize that looks and game interact in a way. It's related to subverting expectations.
