Exactly. I'm English, but my ancestors spent their days in workhouses (look it up), mills and mines. I'm really not sure who they could have oppressed in this period.

This reverse racism isn't surprising. MTV signed it's death warrant when it stopped showing music videos back in the mid-late 2000s. Total Request Live and Real World was fast food and was never going to sustain them. Once all those pop things dropped off, they had nothing left. They had gotten too far away from it's core. Had they stuck to music, they could have easily transferred over into a Music Video On Demand platform, instead of just giving away their business model to Youtube for free. Instead they went for the sexy quick money and it cost them.

Ideas for shows comes and goes. Music is forever. They did not even create the music, just replayed the finished products and put a wrapper and bow on it. Pimp my Ride de-evolves into 16 and pregnant.

It's sad to see them fall, but it was a long time coming. I grew up a hip hop head and a backpacker that wrote rhymes daily, but thanks to MTV, I also grew up a punk, rock, and metal fan as well. Beavis and Butthead could teach me all about Black Flag and I could watch Soundgarden, Thrice, Korn, or Kurt Cobain after school, mixed in with Bone Thugs n Harmony of course. If I stayed up late I could watch the harder stuff rap or rock. Music was just great back then, but they and BET had a chokehold on that market and those music videos shaped many lives (Musicians and ours).

They made Viacom a shitload of money for a long time. Now they are an albatross. This is not isolated. Cable TV itself is in DEEEEP trouble. Word on the street, Disney is PISSED at ESPNs ratings and are looking for a buyer or a way to deal with them. HBO and similar are thriving with their boxing and those "Premium TV" shows (like Game of Thrones) everyone fucking talks about. Those guys were smart, lucky, or both. Those subscription platforms are the future. The cable TV model is rapidly outdated and is dying. Hollywood is hurting too. More Chinese investors are trying to buy studios.

In the world of economics, this is a massive market correction taking place. The fact that these brands are still alive this very moment, which shows just how much money they have made over the past decades to be running nasty deficits like this, for a few years.

Let's see how long Viacom/Redstone will be willing to be stubborn before changing their business model, because these brands are putrid. Apparently their latest merger talks with CBS failed again. Gee I wonder why....

Cancel your cable subscriptions. These cable channels make the most money from the big telecoms in access deals where the get a chunk of subscription dollers. This has kept them afloat as adertising money has declined over the years. As a flagship cable station they are in basic packages in 10s of millions of homes even if nobody is watching. Cutting the cord is the best way to bleed Old Media dry such as MTV and CNN.
