Has anyone found one of these that works well? Looking them up every company I see looks sketchy and I've never heard of them before. I know you can but a local sim in almost any country very inexpensively but I don't mind paying extra to be able to use it as soon as my plane lands and save the hour or so it takes to track down and activate a sim.

If you're in the USA get a t-mobile card, free internet roaming in basically all countries. I fucking love t-mobile.

I had a recent problem putting in trying to put a local SIM back in Sept in Ukraine.

Since I'm using a iPhone 6... Apple wants the original password I used to set up the account, not my current password which is strange since I don't remember the original.

Anybody else have this issue ?

I use a Google Fi phone and it supports a bunch of countries out of the box. Calling costs though (20 cents a minute), so it's not the best option if you're staying where you are for a while. You do get unlimited texting (and unlimited talking in the US) for $20/month and data at $10/GB most places.

If you're going to be staying in one area for a while, I'd suggest getting a SIM there. You should be able to get the best price. For a US phone with international capabilities however, Google Fi seems like the best deal.

Yeah, I also experienced the same problem in Kiev with my galaxy note 5. I brought a cheap backup Samsung and just used that phone.

This sounds too good to be true. What type of plan did you get?
Free internet roaming worldwide but it's probably just 2G.

I would get Google Fi but I doubt it would work in China :/

Yeah it's 2g with T-Mobile which is fine for texts but sucks for media besides posting one pic to ig. However you get to choose your network and can change back and forth as much as u want!

You also have the option to upgrade your speed to 4g for $10 but it's not 10gb. I did it once and it barely lasted 3 days of heavy use so never did it again.

Only country I've been to that T-Mobile had. NO agreement with was Laos. Yes worked fine all over China. I dropped my grandfathered unlimited data with att for T-Mobile and never looked back!

What are good options for international data?

Anyone tried any of the various international sim cards?

Tmobile is not an option and I need something that doesn't involve the hassle of purchasing a local sim card.

Three mobile is a good option if you're in the UK.

Otherwise you can buy sim cards on ebay before you travel if you want to avoid the bullshit that is buying a sim card overseas sometimes, i.e. spending time for at least half a day not connected, walking around like a headless chicken looking for a store, then getting to the store and them wanting to photocopy your passport, trying to talk to them in English, finding somewhere that has a sim card opener etc.

Wouldn't recommend those international sim card like worldsim, way too expensive for what it is, especially for data.

Getting a 4G local sim card will likely be much faster typically than T-Mobile/Three roaming or international sim cards.

Have not tried Google Fi. It is a good idea but it only supported on three Google phones. So not worth it unless you already have one of those.

FYI T-Mobile doesn't have an agreement in vietnam. Picked up their network near border in Cambodia. Rates were ridiculous for calls like $6/min with no data coverage. be careful about that if your near border in some countries.

Used the t-mobile texting and mobile 2G data a lot while I was in the Philippines. Not the fastest thing around, but the price can't be beat. It is included in all of their post-paid plans. Just check their international plans if you need to make lots of phone calls while in a foreign country.

The other annoying thing about T-Mobile international roaming is you get disconnected and dropped dozens of times per day. Every time that happens ur booted off tinder and the 2g is too slow to load all ur matches. So ur stuck unable to message until u can get to wifi

They are all data-only, but there is a variant that has a phone number attached that is VoIP based using their app.

250 MB base allotment, 750 if you add e-mails using "freedom friends" which the list can be found on slickdeals.

Based on their coverage map they only work in European countries, probably because it's a rebranded Three UK SIM card (I verified by checking the MCC).

I have 2 of these but have never used them outside of the US. Nice thing about using them here is they're basically roaming all the time, so you can freely use T-Mobile or AT&T depending on which has coverage.

It bares mentioning that the T-mobile unlimited plan worldwide is 2G which is slow as heck not good for much other then google maps, facebook, and emails, but if thats all you're doing it could work great.

If you are traveling to USA or Canada, the new Verizon plans are sweet as hell $2 a day and you aren't restricted to super slow speed like T-mobile and you can hop between networks.

EUROPE HACK: If you are traveling to many different countries in Europe get a Vodafone plan from any European country and you can get like 200mb for €2-3 roaming so per day in most other European countries, its a good alternative to changing out your SIM every few days.

Easiest: just pop in a local SIM and you're good to go

International sims usually suck and overpriced.

T-Mobile has continued to upgrade their international coverage. It some countries(especially in Europe) it is now often 3G. They also gave away unlimited 4G all summer for people in Europe.

Calls still cost .20 a minute but with Wi-Fi calling and whatsapp, I never actually need it.

I'm sure you could get something cheaper locally, but if you're switching countries, it really can't be beat, its very convenient.

I continue to use it with pleasure.

Yea, its true that when its 2G, an app like Tinder and some others are slow as fuck, but who cares unless you're on a 3 day bang journey.
