RE: Leaving the military
to Cool:

I have some tangentially related experience: I had a job in prison in health care, it was very depressing and even unhealthy ( dark, poor air quality) and I had a very similar amount of time to go to your amount (About 3 years.)

Someone with military experience mentioned that you probably have a Secret clearance and that was a money ticket when you get out. I don't know if this is true, but if so, you may want to consider sticking it out-- not for the "duty" reasons mentioned in some of the less sympathetic comments here, but for the $MONEY.

If you don't have some other angle, what ELSE will you be doing for money when you get out?

You can break down your time to go into blocks like I ( and the prisoners) did, and also have something that's fun to do in your off time. Stamp collecting, vinyl records-- who knows, just do something so your life is not totally the drudgery of your job.

1000 days can be broken down into, say, a 200/250/250/150 and the last 150 doesn't count because you are "short to the house." :-)

Make up a 11x17 sheet of paper with a grid on it so ALL those days are laid out right there.

When you think of it, look at it and "x" out the days you've finished. When you see that sucker 1/3 full, you'll physically/visually realize IT'S NOT GOING TO BE FOREVER.

But the easy money that hopefully will come with those credentials will be.

I'm collecting mine right now, nobody but the IRS or child support can get at my pension.

I admit I look back at all the morons I had to work for, who are still in the Machine because they are too
unimaginative to think of anything else to do , and I say -- not every day, but whenever I feel like it--"Fuck you, morons. EVERY day is a day off for me now."
