The difference between Jonah Hill and the astrobiologist is that the latter was prepared for the dissing and Jonah was not.

Doing an analysis, it does look like Jonah was a step behind due to the lizard speaking French. Even if he is reading translations, it still takes a second to digest the words. To be blindsided by a diss like that, on top of the task of translating and then to come up with a politically correct response to that, is a bit much.

I can't really give Jonah an L for that one. The presence of the tranny was also disconcerting and also serves as an additional distraction.

It's an interesting exchange.

I feel the key point is; how one is viewed will dictate how they are treated. Jonah's appearance and personality leave him open to this. For a start if he was in good shape, presented well and exposed a more serious personality this doesn't happen as the joke is predicated on the large distance between his SMV vs Leo/Brad's. In situations like this, as the aggressor, one has to assess the target to determine whether their attack will be 'successful'. This was quite a high risk (in terms of potential embarrassment) for the woman to take, it could easily go down the path were she is humiliated by a decent retort from Hill. At the end of the day she had enough context of Hill as a person plus the setting (foreign language) to make the call to go ahead with the joke, on the basis that he wouldn't have the ability to hurt her with a response, to her credit she was correct.

The best form of defence is the one that discourages any attack.

On the contrary, Hill's aforementioned attributes are integral to how he derives his significant income, therefore without displaying these attributes he wouldn't even have the chance to be put in this situation.

Overall- Micro L for Hill for the Macro W. This no doubt would sting a little, no matter how rich and famous people are they are still human and self-conscious.
