RE: Going back to school to get my CPA
Re: getting your CPE credits efficiently, if your employer pays for it something like MasterCPE is great. If your employer doesn't, all the Big 4 firms offer free webcasts, typically good for an hour of credit each, typically several per week per firm. You don't even have to pay attention, just connect to one and let it run in the background while you work -- just have to make sure you answer a minimum of three polling questions during the course of the hour. If you stay on top of it and do one or two a week you're set. Only drawback is that you can't count on any of them qualifying as ethics credits, so depending on your board's requirements you may have to buy an ethics course every year or every two years.

RE: Going back to school to get my CPA
Hi, guys OP here. I just started my second semester. My primary focus for right now is to land a good internship for the summer. I know time is not on my side, but I think I can pull it off. I'm putting the finishing polishes on my resume and developing my LinkedIn account which many people swear by. I will use it for information gathering as well as networking.

I think i have decided on being an auditor. I am bilingual speaking English and nearly fluent Spanish. One of the attractive things about auditing is that travel is required to meet with clients.

Regarding internships, the Big 4 will be out of my reach, because they hire interns a year in advance and I just started this accounting process 6 months ago. My goal is to get an internship with a local company for the summer, and my final internship with a mid-sized yet global accounting firm around this time next year. Then I should have my CPA shortly after that.

If anyone has any advice on how to land a good internship, aside from the career fairs, I would appreciate it. Should I cold call, or just apply for random internships I found online?

Thanks in advance guys

Cold call several offices of each bigfour. That's how I got mine several years ago. There is a myriad of reasons that people will cancel/lose their internship.
Do this closer to the end of the year.

Also spam online. You might not get the one you applied for but someone could pick up your details.

If you're intent on travelling internationally on the company bill then bigfour is the way to go.

If you sport a good academic record, emphasise that. Bigfour hires smart guys and pretty girls.

They mainly hire interns thru school career fairs. I don't know of any other way to get an internship with a regional or large firm.

So I've been busting my ass back at school the last 8 months or so, and it kind of sucks. Very limited social life, limited free time, my beastly physique is slowly deteriorating into a dad bod. On the bright side, I still work at the strip club a couple days a week so that's fun. Had my first little brawl there last weekend.

Anyways, I just got an internship with a big international accounting firm. It's not the big 4, but if there was a big 5, it would be the 5th. The pay for an intern is $22! That's fucking crazy. The interview is on Thursday. Now, I just have to learn how to tie a tie.

Hang on, you got an internship, but the interview is Thursday? I'm confused. Interview is for an internship spot, or internship starts Thursday?

I hope you nailed it. Don't know about firms in Peru, but PM me if you have any questions.
