Music plays a big part in the culture of peoples/nations, and on Vronski suggestion, and after reading Vinny's words "in eastern Europe Karaoke date if you sing well is an instant leg spreader". I have decided to initiate this FSU music thread, for discussion of new tendencies and fashions.

During my life I have linked good moments with some songs, and will try to give some personal feedback on the posted songs.

There is already the Slavic music thread, but in this case it is just for Former Soviet Union, with the major focus on Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, though any song or band from this territory is welcomed in here.

I am very eclectic in my music tastes, from commercial pop, rock, electronics to Kozak songs...

First shared song is by the amazing Svetlana Loboda from Ukraine, "40 ГРАДУСОВ" was playing when I asked to dance my first Ukranian catch in the city of Kharkov, a sweet student from Sumy. It has been a hit for me since then, when this plays I always go direct to some hot chick ask her to dance.





Then there is Серега from Belarus singing his "Возле дома твоего", live (notice the funny Russian comedian Max Galkin at 0:30). This has been in my car playlist since I first heard it, it's an instant hit among any FSU chick that I manage to get in there )))





Another instant hit is any song by Russian group БАНД'ЭРОС, the most famous being the hit "КОЛАМБИЯ ПИКЧЕРЗ НЕ ПРЕДСТАВЛЯЕТ" (COLUMBIA PICTURES DOES NOT REPRESENT), a critic to Hollywood movies and the lack of reality vs the "Russian way".





Now to electronics, an amazing version of Serge Devant's "Addicted to love", in Вика КРУТАЯ and her "УБЕГУ", also brings great memories of nights in Kiev.





And for now (only 5 videos per post unfortunately) finishing with the excellent DJ and Producer from Moscow, Anton Ishutin, with his "I'm on fire" which instantly reminds me of great nights in Kiev's SkyBar.

These ones are not really leg spreaders, actually the opposite, but those who understand or try to learn Russian will hopefully appreciate them:

Russian rap band Кровосток (Krovostok, means a blood groove in English). Very negative and cynical.

An absolute hit. You guys have heard it already, most clubs play it very late, when most people are drunk - they get absolutely crazy. To listen loud and drunk. And learn the lyrics (even phonetically, it's a classic among the classics). It's also my phone's ringtone BTW

In my observations there are few songs that make girls wet.
In Ukraine or Russia "Serov - Rozi" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTTx5pxc6tU
He basically sings something like "I love you so much it makes me cry, but girls love".

And generally worldwide, girls attitudes change considerably after I sing Michael Buble - Feeling good or Hozier - Take me to church, but this is a part of some other thread.

Some Rock ones.

"Воины света" by the Belorussians Ляпис Трубецкой. Great song and video, used as one of the EuroMaidan hymns.





The rock/ska folk ТІК from Ukraine and in Ukrainian language. Here with the energetic "Сірожине пірожине".





Here the most revered and famous Ukrainian band, Океан Ельзи, with my favorite song of them "На небі", this video recorded live in a show at Kiev Olympic Stadium.





From Russia, "Рекорд Оркестр", a group that started in the 90's performing blues and evolved to incorporate some Balkan influences. Now here with "Лада седан" their latest and most successful effort up to date (possibly also due to Timati's sampled version of this song) and with a more Caucasus tone.





From the old USSR group Земляне, with their "Трава у дома" a song from 1983 who became the official song of the Soviet Space Program. They took some influences from Tom Jones's "Green Green Grass of Home"

Contemporary Russian / Ukranian "Divas" with their beauty and strong voices make my heart tremble. These songs are excellent for slow dancing with a hottie in any club, just go straight to her and ask to dance, very few decline. If no clear IOI's around I usually go for the hottest available one. Other songs are powerful dance floor hits that drive dievshonki crazy. Not good songs for karaoke singing though, men sing songs sang by men. My pick now goes to the following:

Tina Karol - Тина Кароль - "Сдаться ты всегда успеешь", from Ukraine,
a powerful voice, a beautiful lady with excellent presence, hard to dislike, also a personal life marred by tragedy, her husband died 3 years ago by cancer at only 32. Great video too.





Polina Gagarina - Полина Гагарина - "Спектакль окончен", from Russia. Regarded as "The Voice". Totally deserved. Clearly robbed of the victory in Eurovision 2015 when she came in second place.
One of the first Russian hits that I recall hearing, not much of a slow, but a powerful dance-floor ballad, long hairs flying in the clubs when this one played.





The Ukranian Ani Lorak, countless hits in her repertoire, the "Shady Lady" due to this eponymous hit that took her to second place in Eurovision 2008. Another dance bomb, Ани Лорак - "Зажигай сердце"





The unavoidable Svetlana Loboda, from Ukraine, girls love her, me too, nevermind her botox )))
The Queen of contemporary russkoe Diva's, she was briefly with group ViaGra in the mid 00s. Stunning presence and voice, if this lady was born british or american she would be multi-millionaire. After hearing her it's impossible to hear any of Lady Gaga or Rihanna western crap. Another dance hit [i]"LOBODA - Пора домой"[i].





Finally, stunning Vera Brezhneva, also from Ukraine, not such a great voice, but an incredible smile and sympathy, she is a perfect 10 for me (yes, it is her fondling me in my avatar). Was a permanent member of a legendary lineup of group ViaGra (along with Anna Sedokova and Nadiya Meikher) and benefits to this day from the production genius of brothers Valery and Konstantin Meladze.

Nice hip-hop well produced. I like almost of this guy songs.

I've been using this song as well as a few others to help me with learning russian and pronouncement of words.
Usually listen to the songs while I follow lines on a cheat sheet printout of [Russian Lyrics->Transliterated Lyrics->English translation]. Really has helped speed up learning how to write Cyrillic and speak russian.

Her name is Yulianna Karaulova. Great voice, femininity and can almost hit near high notes.




Loboda is another artist that has lyrics that are beneficial in getting to know how Russian/Ukrainian words are pronounced. Her song "Fuck Love" is pretty kickass...

Regarding popular music, Alla Pugacheva was the biggest thing back then, this song Женщина, Которая Поет sold around 55 million copies. She still performs and is mother of Kristina Orbakaite, another famous contemporary singer. Alla is also known for some strange love relationships with younger guys like Philipp Kirkorov, or Maxim Galkin. Most people I know say that both guys are gay and both marriages where convenient...

Somewhat related - does anyone know what those Russian videos are called - usually played during Christmas/New Year's, to my understanding, on Russian TV. They're slapstick in the style of Charlie Chaplin, set in the countryside (in some dacha usually) with human actors in a bear costume, a clown, etc.

Can't remember what they're called but they're hilarious! Does anyone know?
