Weird PM attachment
I Have tried to find a way to contact the mods, but not been able to.

I believe we may have an extremely serious site hack.

You need to PM me as soon as possible and I will explain. I didn't want to take this public but I can find no way to reach mods. I'm not panicking but I need this to be known as quickly as possible.

Assume for now the site has been hacked and all PM's are compromised.

This is extremely serious.

This is not a joke.

If you're going to go public with this comment, the rest might as well come out as well. What led you to think there was a hack?

RE: MODS - URGENT ATTENTION - POSSIBLE SITE BREACH!
I sent my email address to a member to exchange some stuff.

I got a very strange reply from him with a strange attachment. I trusted it as the only possible alternative would mean that the PMs had been hacked and were being read by third parties. I did not entertain this idea.

I PM'd said member and he told me he sent me nothing at all. This implies that someone has access to PMs.

It's very very serious.

I have contacted the member.

He might have been hacked his side, or it might have come from my side. But this sight is the target and all members here.

I have more information but want to talk to the site admins to clear this up.

For now, assume all communications are compromised.

This is not a joke. Or a misunderstanding. It is very serious.

RE: MODS - URGENT ATTENTION - POSSIBLE SITE BREACH!
Do you really think this is a good time to take the piss when hackers now probably have access to all my personal information going back several years?

I don't give a fuck either, but you don't know that. You don't know that I have information exposed that could seriously damage me.

Shut the fuck up with the funny stuff, until a Mod intervenes.

This is not a joke.

Could it possibly be that it was the member who's not to be trusted, not that the entire PM system had been hacked?

Presumably it was by email and it was by the member.

RE: Weird PM attachment
It looks like you are having a panic attack and should calm down. Just because you get a malicious email, doesn't mean the forum was hacked.

When you stop freaking out, you can PM me details of what's going on. The fact that you start this thread without contacting me or the mods at all (I don't see a PM from you), suggests you're trying to make people panicked for possibly no reason.

If there's any breach at any time, we'll deal with it intelligently and logically instead of freaking out like women.

RE: Weird PM attachment
Alright so after a preliminary investigation, what seems to have happened is that Rigsby got an email spoofed from a member after he shared his email address with that member. The claim is that a hacker read the PM and then spoofed an email to Rigsby to get information. There is many ways this can be done and we can eliminate possibilities one by one. As of now, there is no sign that the forum has been compromised. It's certainly possible but unlikely, and I will entertain all options.

Has anyone else received any suspicious emails from other forum members?

RE: Weird PM attachment
No issues here, but here's something that someone might find useful.

If you use gmail, at the bottom-right of the inbox there's "Last account activity: 1 days ago-Details"

When you click on 'Details' you'll see the I.P. addresses that mail from your account has been sent from. So, keep in mind the I.Ps of places you frequent and log-in from, coffee shop, mall, friends house, all of these with have an I.P. that you can write down. If you check activity and see there's a different I.P....copy and paste it into google search, and it will tell you the approximate location of the I.P.

I sent Rigsby a test email from my primary email account and he said that was not the address the messaged him. I'm willing to bet the address that messaged him was none of my other accounts either.

So the final conclusion is that he got an email from a random email address that wasn't yours?

The only reasonable explanation is this site is haunted with ghost accounts and emails.

Didn't we have a site wide purge of PMs back in Jan/Feb during the SJW witch hunts? Worst case scenario any personal information sent through PM in the past 6 months could be compromised.

Thanks for bringing this to the attention of Roosh, hopefully this is a false alarm or isolated incident.

I don't want to be a fearmonger.

But if people did a hack which can read a forum's PMs, it's possible that it happened many years ago, and the PMs were saved.

My hunch not knowing much about technology is that the hackers/phishers target multiple forums of the myBB type for identity theft or banking details.

RE: Weird PM attachment
To be honest, with everything going on nowadays, and the growing influence of the manosphere and alt-right, it is safe to assume that everything is compromised by at least government agencies. Easy-peasy for them to gain access to a simple forum and these are definitely areas of interest for them.

So assume that at least such groups are watching, at least scanning all communications.

A second thing to watch out for is much more important, in my view, and that is other groups getting info, like vindictive activists that want to name and shame everyone they disagree with. So be careful in that regard.

Beyond that, you can't paralyze yourselves completely because of some possible risks.

RE: Weird PM attachment
As this this unfolds more I'm starting to think this is just something that is being blown out of proportion. Last PM Rigsby sent me he mentioned that he was mistaken and that the subject line of the email was in fact not the same title as our PM conversation. He said he will "not be using PM anymore" so I don't know if he'll respond to my last message but hopefully he comes back in here to confirm/deny that.

Just asking: has anyone heard from Rigsby off the forum? Stalin?

I know he seemed overdramatic and high strung when this happened, but he was under about as serious a life stressor as there is and has a rocky road ahead of him.

Would be good to know how he's doing, although it's possible he wants to focus on the physical world for the time being.

I know nothing about him or his personal life. We only PM'd because he seemed very knowledgeable about music and was going to trade some files with me to show me how a certain plugin works.

He has not posted or even logged into the forum since this the thread.
