But they're SUPPOSED TO BE reluctant to shoot UNLESS their lives are really in danger. The video can be used to defend the innocent and convict the guilty.

The false dichotomy is designed instead to create a public dialog that will move towards pre-ordained changes. I would guess some possibilities would be increased affirmative action hiring by police forces, more social welfare spending, more ritual self-loathing required of whites, and gun control.

Good post! You should see the shit cops are saying on our NYPD forum. But the sad thing about the movement is that it is POINTLESS. All the whining won't change anything and the politicians know it. You basically summed it up.

Politicians have advisers who explain everything to them. They know cops have a right to defend themselves and they even know the law (most state laws) had it written that cops can not only use force but use lethal force against anyone who risks severe injury, disfigurement, or death to the cop or someone else. The law even gives cops the right to make errors on the side of safety or fear of threat( shooting guy who puts hand in waistband for example).

I don't think they will change these laws simply because doing so would make police dysfunctional and then they won't do their jobs correctly. They will avoid interactions and crime will increase. The quality of new recruits who would join agreeing to the more GENTLE treatment, at increased risk, wouldn't be anyone you would want to come to your 911 call.

They also must be looking for police to shoot more black men because all the assassinations are only going to make cops more jumpy with fingers on the trigger. A fort Apache mentality will begin. Cops are now much more likely to be cautious when dealing with black people because there is an added danger now.

Racism(or racial demographics) is all going to increase against blacks I predict. Let me explain: Parents who support police and think the movement is BS will have to explain to their young children what is going on when asked. Any truthful discussion are going to make these children more afraid of black people and sympathetic towards cops. Your going to have a whole new generation growing up that hates cops and at the same time who are scared to death of black people. Yoda said fear leads to hate!

Why has the news decided to cover this now, when violence between police and impoverished urban neighborhoods has been common since the inception of the war on drugs?

I have a feeling this crisis is going to be used to justify further militarization of the domestic law enforcement, or to enact further encroachment of civil liberties.

Further, it's attempting to incite a race war, or at the very least, create further divisions between races that are collectively victimized by the top 0.1% establishment which has eroded their purchasing power, civil liberties, and employment opportunities.

I agree, there is no place more segregated and racist than the Northeast. Liberal shitholes like Boston and New York which are filled with white liberals who always talk about needing to do more for oppressed black people but then won't go near them, live near them, are prejudiced against them and are deathly afraid of them. The south is far more integrated and culturally, white and black people down there are far more similar than they are different and thus can relate a lot better. White liberals up north only care about assuaging their white guilt, not actually being colorblind and just living along side them. Boston in particular is probably the worst place in America for this shit.

From my personal experience as a Black male, I think no region is more or less racist than the other, I just think that Northerners try to hide it more and Southerners are more open about it.

Well put. I'm from Baltimore and it's pretty damn hard not to be self-hating if you are a black person from that city. I see black people there all the time make excuses for criminals, even blaming the victim in some cases and I have even seen it happen where the victims themselves excuse the criminals. But when a policeman shoots said criminals there's demands for 'justice' and riots are ready to break out. Freddie Gray dealt drugs in his community and had a previous arrest sheet longer than the novel War and Peace but him hitting his neck the wrong way in a police van somehow invoked images of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X (which was a insult to two men who fought REAL injustice). Baltimore reached it's highest per-capita homicide rate in history last year once the police got spooked and stopped patrolling some neighborhoods. It even beat out New York City in raw number homicides, a city over 10 times larger. Gimme "white oppression" any day of the week where I know the police are nearby if my life is in danger. As somebody who has been the victim of assault and have seen my law-abiding family members face near death from gunshots while minding their own business, I say fuck these people. If Baton Rouge wants to become Honduras and sink into the abyss, I say let it.
