An AR-15 is not an "assault rifle". It is semi-automatic. It doesn't have the fun switch, or full auto. Those are a different class and you need a federal tax fee, usually in the thousands of dollars, to legally possess one.

But a regular rifle? Sure. It used to be a lot more common for people to walk around with rifles, especially in the south.

People get all worried about certain styles of gun because there's more plastic and crap on newer guns that make them more versatile, but that doesn't make them any more lethal than an older style firearm.

Exactly. Last i checked a .22 can still kill you or do a lot of damage.

He used a suppressive fire tactic, then quickly flanked to the officer's weak side. Ballsy move, but officers usually try to take cover (Like this) and prioritize doing so over returning fire. The shooter acted so quickly, suppressing and advancing at the same time the officer's desire for cover lead to a blind spot before he realized what happened, he was shot in the back.

Trump is going to have a field day ripping the thugs that did this. Mr law and order President can't come soon enough. Between Hilary and BLM, the bad guys need to have fear go down their spine. We need a return of rule of land to this land.

There is still one suspect holed up in a parking garage and exchanging gun fire with police.

And on top of that the suspect says there are bombs planted all over downtown Dallas.

Like I said...like something out of a movie.

Orlando was how many hours, with zero to little video, no police action and lost transcripts.

Not true. Carry laws vary by state, and in Texas, open carry usually means you can carry it loaded.

OK I understand the right and need to carry a handgun or a shotgun. But whats the idea behind allowing military grade assult rifles? Are explosives, grenades, anti tank weapons etc also allowed or where they draw the line?
The definition of "assault rifle" is such bullshit that if you take off the pistol grip (easier grip), flash suppressor(don't blind your friends), and collapsing stock (adjust for shoulder size), any AR will become a non-assault rifle even in California.

Even then a 10/20 Ruger .22 is just about as deadly.

A small point of contention. The tax stamp for firearms regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA) costs $200. It is the fixed supply which makes them so expensive. The Hughes Amendment was added to the Firearms Owners Protection Act in 1986 which prohibited any new machine gun from being built for civilian use. So what was in circulation in 1986 is in theory what is in circulation now, hence the exorbitant cost. Suppressors, Short Barreled Rifles (SBR), and Short Barreled Shotguns (SBS) were not regulated as such so while the $200 tax stamp requirement is still there, economies of scale have dropped prices to around $200 for a .22 suppressor and about $500 for a rifle suppressor.

It goes something like this:
-Create trust
-Pay for item
-Submit trust, Form 4 (request to transfer NFA item)
-Submit $200 for tax stamp
-Play NFA waiting game (4-12 mo)
-Form 4 approved
-Receive stamp and item

This is the US, I don't need to have a reason to have a AR-15. But I have a better idea, you tell me why I shouldn't have one.

That would be such a weird ISIS attack....they love to attack public places like airports but here they pick cops specifically vs the much easier, higher shock value target of just firing into the crowd of protestors?

It doesn't seem to fit.

No I mean I don't have anything against guns or owning a gun. It just looks weird to see guy in public wearing a rifle openly, that was that was suprising me, I thought in US you can own that kind of rifle but you are not allowed to walk around with it in the streets. If it would be legal here, I would definetaly get a gun like that and shoot it from time to time in the range. Here I can only get handgun or airsoft gun.

And for the protection part, I don't see how that dude with that rifle is providing any protection to Europeans. I mean if shit went down here that guy would hop on a plane and ride here? Or how exactly hes going to do anything about it?
