To the guy asking about free time.

Get some certifications. THere's a lot of BS in them but PMP, SixSig, CFA and the like can do a lot to help you find a more interesting job later.

I'd probably put on some headphones and listen to audio podcasts all day.

If someone walks by your office, they'll think you're listening to chill out music that helps you focus.

I've had jobs similar to this where it wasn't necessary to produce anything. It's not as sweet as it seems. Time drags and the work day lasts forever.

Management's fault. What are they paid to do? Manage the employees. Instead of firing him, should of fired the managers for not managing the employees under them. That means, if one guy makes his job easier and hands-free, find him more shit to work on, otherwise the company pays him to do nothing, and by proxy paying you not to do you job of managing the time the company is paying him for.

I had a lot of free time in my previous job because I automated nearly everything and there wasn't much interesting stuff to do. I used the free time to learn new job skills, which helped me land my current awesome job. They're both in the same industry so it didn't raise any suspicion while I was spending time in the previous job learning those skills. Not only my current job great, I'm now fairly well-known in my industry and have plenty of job offers, as well as smart people wanting to join my team. All because I invested time saved on the previous job to improve myself.

I also avoided having to work overtime and improved my health, fitness and strength by a lot, as I had more time to train and cook for myself. I had more energy for social life and my Game improved as a result.

The IT guys featured here have wasted the free time they created for themselves on booze and video games. What a shame.

Spoken like a true boss! He did what was asked of him -- but it didn't hurt, and he didn't willingly notify his boss that there was more blood to be squeezed from him -- so to employers like Monster he's a bastard and he should be made to suffer.

A welcome reminder to us all. We complain about the questionable characters who manage and employ us, but we're only a couple of rungs on the hierarchy away from becoming those kinds of people ourselves.
