True. However, balkanization and unification are opposites.

Like every other country in Europe other than agriculturally poor Scandinavia.

Read up son.
The Serbs were conquered sure, but saying they didn't resist is just plain wrong. Same goes for the other Balkan states that were conquered by the Turks.
I did read it. I just found out that they were actually slaves for Turks more than I said. It wasn't 300 years, it's more like 400 years.
I'd rather show appreciation towards Russians, since they never got invaded by Turks and never served as slaves.
If someone comes to my house, made me slave for 30 years in my own house and then I eventually kicked him out 30 years later, that wouldn't be something I would proud of.
While in Italy after the fall of the West Roman empire, only Venice managed to be a respected power/state. Even after the unification, every conflict in which Italy participated they ended up being the world laughingstock.
yeah right... did you forget WW1? I think the Austrian-hungarian Empire would beg to differ... have you ever been to any of the battlefield in the Alps?
Portugal on the other hand, they were always such a powerful nation...

No. Siege of Diu (1538)
