Just downloaded this series during the weekend. It was hilarious. Anyone else tuning in, and any feedback as to what it is really like in the Valley compared to the show? And are computer programmers really like that?

The think i like about the show is that the casting is dead on, very realistic. Its a comedy so there will be exaggerated humiliation for laughs but overall it holds up well.

Compare these characters with the "programming geniuses" on some network show and you will see what i mean.

Yes, this show is hilarious. The cast is spot on and their comedy chemistry really shows.

I downloaded all except the last two to watch on a plane.

That show is awful. I hate it.

I wish I knew the type of comedy they call it. There's a show called house of lies that's basically the same.

The people make all kind of quippy side comments and veer off subjects.

It is fun to watch, very cringy moments though, but I don't look too much into it.
Lots of nerdy drama though.

It's a series created by Mike Judge (Beavis and Butthead, Office Space, and my favorite, King of the Hill), so it already has definite credibility right there as a hilarious show. You don't even have to know too much about computers to enjoy it, and it definitely Trumps a great deal of ongoing mainstream shows. Another TV series that deals with intellectual jargon and nerdy stuff that comes to mind is The Big Bang Theory, which is rarely amusing, and is really an excuse to make adult jokes. Silicon Valley is superior.

Its spot on referencing Computer Programmers and Silicon Valley.
I believe its also spot on referencing any CEO in that area.

They pick on everyone and it doesn't get old.

I love this show. It's one of the few shows that consistantly makes me laugh my ass off.

TJ (the bearded guy played by Erlich Bachman) is particularly funny.

Make a great light-heated follow up to Game of Thrones.

All the characters are so good it's hard to choose a favorite, but I have to go with Gilfoyle (Martin Starr). His deadpan delivery slays me.

Out of all the episodes so far, I still have to say season 2's SWOT episode is the best. The moment the biker walks in on Gilfoyle and Danesh deciding whether or not they should let him live is priceless. The notes on their SWOT board were hilarious too.

I've got to say, Jared has been one of the funniest members this season. He really fucks.

Its a great show. Really well written, there's some very sharp humour in it.

A lot of the main characters are also based on real life people. Anyone who has worked in tech will have dealt with very similar personalities around the workplace.

Just got back from Scrum stand-up.

As others have noted, the show's portrayal of the tech industry and the workers themselves is pretty spot-on. The jargon is fairly accurate (if a little over-the-top), and the show throws in plenty of amusing details and inside jokes (Gilfoyle's text editor and dual-monitor alignment, using Jenkins as Richard's Continuous Integration tool). Detectives have police procedurals, doctors have medical dramas, and feminists have Girls. Silicon Valley is for us tech nerds.

I never knew anyone to use spaces for code indent, that's just... weird man.

I use spaces, technically. I have Sublime configured to insert 4 spaces when I hit tab. If I'm writing code in the command line for whatever reason I'll actually hit spacebar four times but it feels weird.

3 spaces though, that's some weird shit.
