Do I have a sexual discrimination case?
tl;dr I was asked to leave a casino today because I refused to "check" a small drawstring backpack to hotel security, despite every woman in the building carrying giant purses.

This incident really pissed me off today. Forgive me for the sloppy writing, I'm ranting.

Today I went to an Atlantic City casino to play poker since I was off of work. 5 hours into my session, I feel a tap on my shoulder. A security guard comes up to me and says "Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to bring your bag to the security desk. You aren't allowed to have any bags on the casino floor."

I was very confused, then I thought he was joking. He wasn't. I've never heard of such a law or rule in any casino anywhere. I took my drawstring bag off of my back and showed him the contents, which was a couple of credit cards, a few receipts, and a bottle of sun tan lotion. Again he said that I needed to take it to the security desk.

There were about five or six women in the small poker room, most with giant purses 2-3x bigger than my small bag.

Me: "Why are women allowed to all carry their bags?"

Guard: "Only women's purses are allowed. Those are the rules."

I began arguing about what is defined as a purse, but he wasn't budging. I didn't want to make a big deal out of it, so I said, "Yes sir." I took everything out of my bag besides my suntan lotion, brought it to the desk of the poker room's floor manager, and sat back down to play. 3 minutes later he comes up to me and says that it wasn't good enough - I have to walk it down to the main security desk on the other side of the casino.

Now I was fucking pissed. I got up from my game and walked over to the head of security on the other side of the casino and explained to him what the guard did. He said that casino just recently cracked down on having any type of personal bag in the casino no matter how big. But he said women were allowed to have purses for "obvious reasons."

I asked him what the obvious reasons were. He just gave me a look. Then I told him that I identify as a woman. It made him really uncomfortable because I said it in a pissed off tone without a hint of sarcasm. He tried to very, very, very gently question my womanhood. I then asked to speak to the head of security.

She basically told me that I was beat. I said that the only reason I'm not allowed to carry a backpack is because I'm a man.

Conveniently, a woman walked over and stalled right in front of us with a handbag that could have fit a Boston Marathons-worth of explosives in addition to a couple of bowling balls. I stared at the bag, then the guard as if to say "well, what are you gonna do about THAT bag?"

It was about this size:

"You aren't going to force me to take her bag, sir. You can either check your bag with security or have a nice day." Since I refused, I had to leave.

I think this is way more discriminatory than denying males the right to shit in the ladies room, but they seem to be winning lawsuits and making headlines all over the place. I want to take some kind of legal action or get some comps (serious). After all, I told them I identify as a woman.

So - do you guys think I have a case?

Yea. I'm mostly upset about how unnecessary and ridiculous it was to ask me to leave when I was 100% minding my own business and had my bag on me for 5 hours. It was unbelievably rude.

RE: Do I have a sexual discrimination case?
I think the 'real problem' is that they are trying to prevent cheating or worried that something concealed inside of a small bag like that could be used for cheating. From what I remember of a number of incidents over the decades, is that something that small could be used today to conceal a small device or smartphone and an app used to keep track of what is going on plus give recommended plays. With the small size of computerized gadgets, it could even serve as some kind of replay to another part of the casino where something else would be taking place.

I think that the casinos would like women to stop carry large bags also, but the problem is that then no women would come inside of any casino (what, I can't take my bag of useless stuff inside, then I can't go!), so they take the risk of cheating going on with something concealed inside of a women's bag. Of course, the first time a casino gets taken for a large amount of money and a gadgets was concealed inside of one of these 'luggage bags', then they will do something.

If you stuck with the tranny angle then you'd have a case.

@Blackhat: Atlantic City is in New Jersey, not Vegas.

If you're serious, you should talk to a lawyer.

"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.

Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector.

RE: Do I have a sexual discrimination case?
Firstly, yes its technically unfair and you have a reason to be upset.

That said, I don't think it would be worth your effort unless you are a millionaire willing to waste copious amounts of money because you felt you were treated unfairly.

The casino has likely developed its own set of procedures to deal with what it considers the highest risks to its income. This could include profiling that men with bags are a higher threat than women with purses.

You might find it difficult to prove that its a sexual discrimination as compared to discriminating over permissible bag types that either gender could carry.

If you want to prove it, try carrying a purse into the casino rather than a bag and see how they react.

Be aware that provocative action like this might just get you banned from your favourite casino and when you eventually cool down about the whole thing, you might regret it.

My advice, let it go. Also, next time check your bag in at their desk before going on the floor.

"Guard: "Only women's purses are allowed. Those are the rules.""

You can look into the legal aspects of this situation depending what "the rules" are. Can you get a written copy of them?

If they're spelled out the way security said they were, then that's the breaks. No case, especially if those rules were posted publicly. It's not discrimination because businesses are allowed some leeway with gender-specific rules, like nightclubs that require certain attire.

But if there is a gray area in the rules, or if the security guy was just making things up than you can at least take it to a lawyer to see if he thinks there's a case there.

You won't have a case. Move on and do not attend this venue anymore.

But since you're there.. why not have some fun? Insist that you identify as a woman, and that you are genderfluid.

But since you're already out... move on. Next.

No. Not even a little bit. I spent 18 years in casinos from lowly dealer to department head and in three different departments as well. No man will ever be able to carry anything bigger than a clutch and even that will likely have surveillance with a dedicated camera if you're even allowed to carry it. Furthermore, all casinos adhere to a strict "You play at out will" policy. They can, will and do dictate who's playing and admitted and who isn't. You're there because they allow you and that privilege would be revoked at a moment's notice.

It's basic security. Call it sexism, call it vag pedestalization, call it whatever you want. I used to be a shift manager and I would give you the same ultimatum as well. No bag or no play, you pick.

You should have ripped the bag in half via. the seams so that it was just a flat piece of cloth.

It's not a bag anymore. Do you still have to check it in?

Should've just told them you were a trans woman and it was your purse; they probably would've even let you in the women's bathroom then, lol

I'd say it's not an issue to them.
The overwhelming majority of women is either not smart enough, or far too risk-averse to try and cheat a casino, of all places.

Besides that, why bother?
Most of them are not using their own money to gamble at a casino anyway, some guy is paying for it. There's nothing at stake for them, so why ruin all the great and free fun by being obsessed with overcoming a casino's security system? A woman's nature is to take the easy way whenever possible.

Viewing a ridiculously complex and sophisticated system designed to prevent you from succeeding not as an insurmountable obstacle, but as an audacious challenge to your knowledge, skills and ingenuity, and proceeding to try and outsmart this system no matter what, by investing huge amounts of time and resources into your efforts, coming up with the tools, gadgets and technology to help you, all while having the hubris to think that you'll definitely be the one who's finally smart and good enough so as to not get caught, now that's a thoroughly male thing.

RE: Do I have a sexual discrimination case?
This is one of those hilariously awkward moments where if I had a lot of money and time I would totally sue for this.

Walk back into the casino with a blond wig and dress, sit down to play cards with a massive purse, and watch the security guards squirm.

When they ask you to check your bag, claim you're a tranny, point out women with purses, and cause a huge stink. When they kick you out, call some ambulance chaser of an attorney and claim discrimination.

Get a bucket load of cash, piss of a bunch of women who can't bring purses onto the floor, and put on your best troll face.

OP if you want to play them, find a dirt bag lawyer who would love a discrimination case. The choice is yours.

I think we need to confront the real issue here.

A forum member who thinks it's cool to carry a bag like this.

He probably wasn't even suited up.

RE: Do I have a sexual discrimination case?
We all have moments like this, where the blatant, pointless, unfair disdain and scorn for men pokes its ugly head up out of the muck and looks you right in the eye, and you can't rationalize it away or ignore it.

It is good to have these moments, to remind you that out of the blue, at any moment, someone can single you out and give you shit for no good reason at all, and if the planets align against you, god forbid, and a vindictive woman gets you in her sights, you can be in for the trial of your life.

Remember that white hot anger at being singled out, and notice how the snivelers and connivers of the world always hide behind the letter of the law to give you shit, always remember that, and prepare accordingly.

Should you follow up on it? Legally? Do you want to expend your energy on something like that, righteous as it is?

It was one of life's little heads-ups, a reminder not to get too complacent, and to remember how things are, and how they can change in an instant.

"Ovid, in the arms of his lover, had cried out to the midnight horses to gallop slow across the vault of heaven. But Morse was without a lover; and at a quarter to five he got up, made himself a cup of tea."
