I'm not a parent but I'm guessing if I have a 3 year old and the dumbass keeps expressing a desire to run into traffic I might be inclined to believe him and not let him out of my sight but I don't have her natural mothering instincts.

It' sad that nowadays with the internet that zoos still exist. As someone else has said, the most that we should limit them to is nature parks, it's inhumane to keep animals locked up their whole life. Perhaps for small, stupid animals it would be fine (or very endangered animals where breeding programs are required) such as fish or insects, but meerkats, penguins, giraffes?

On another note, this is a clear example of the gap between ape and human intelligence.

A gorilla's not going to doze off the instant the tranquilizer dart hits his ass. If you just ramp-up the dosage the gorilla might OD and die anyway.

Estimates say that gorillas are around six to 20 times as strong as adult men so even at half, or quarter, strength he could still rip that kid limb from limb in a few seconds if angry. Or the 500 lb gorilla could fall on the kid after he's tranq'ed.

Note the parts above that I bolded and underlined. The animal is "celebrated" (even by specially created videos and memes) and described as not only "endangered" but "beautiful" and indeed "magical". And killing it, to save the life of a human child, was not only "murder", but -- according to Per Sorensen from Denmark -- "worse than murder".

Now please stop and ask yourself: what is it that makes this gorilla so great? Why is it "beautiful", "magical" and worthy of celebration -- unlike the human beings surrounding it which are at best stupid and careless, and at worst cruel and malicious? Why is its death an unspeakable outrage that is not only "murder" but even somehow "worse than murder"?

Did this gorilla prove even a small part of Fermat's last theorem, I mean even like a really secondary lemma? Did it compose Van Halen's "Panama", hell, did it even compose a Sammy Hagar based Van Halen song? How many memes starring Pepe the Frog did it put together? Did it maybe post a datasheet on making money from focus groups?

Nope. In the eyes of fanatical nihilists and human haters, the animal is privileged because it is an "innocent" creature that -- unlike us humans -- has no awareness of the fact that it lives in a world which is known to be "meaningless" all the way down the line. This imagined innocence is what must be celebrated and protected because for the creature aware of "meaninglessness" -- the human being -- to inflict harm and pain on the innocent creature that is unaware of it is adding insult to injury, and this cannot be tolerated.

Here is what is particularly terrible: the human being wants to love the world and it wants to celebrate itself and its sentience -- but under nihilism, it knows it cannot do so because it is the being that has become aware of "meaninglessness" all the way to the end. So the only way for it to express its creativity and love for the world is to displace it towards subjects that seem removed and protected from this knowledge.

So, in this case, you see the creation of memes and videos -- an expression of our uniquely human creativity -- directed towards the celebration of something that is different in kind from us, because at least it does not share what the religion of nihilism considers to be our eternally fallen state. This is also the reason why in the art of the past couple of decades or so, the greatest outpouring of love and creativity has occurred in the context of animation, with shows like "Family Guy", "The Simpsons", "King of the Hill" and others retaining all the freedom and warmth that could once be seen in movies. The eye under nihilism can no longer rest too directly on the human face, so it needs that face to be displaced and de-literalized in the way that happens in these cartoons to be liberated to express the love and warmth that it craves. There can be a special glow and pathos in these shows because they are among the only refuges of free and loving artistic expression in a landscape evacuated by the harsh dictates of nihilism.

The reaction to the killing of this gorilla is so interesting because it shows the human hatred and the sentimentalization of the "innocent" that are characteristic of late stage nihilism in a very distilled form. I would encourage guys who found this post to be of interest to look at the online comments on this event and think about the true feelings expressed in these comments and the ideas that underlie them. There is a lot to learn there.

If you don't have kids, have never had to manage toddlers, good luck with the "mother should never have..." Anyone with any experience of life knows that 'should' means nothing. "The mother should have done this so she and her kid deserve death" is such infuriating bullshit. I mean, yeah, you could outrun them in a 100m sprint but they take off like drag racers over short distances and would be very hard to catch if they only have half a meter to crawl underneath a fence and take a dive into the gorilla pit. I mean, all it would take is someone to ask this woman the time or tap her on the shoulder to give the toddler a gap to make a run for it, especially if she had other kids to look after. Correction: prior to the age of mobile phone cameras, this would have been a local story in a local paper and that would have been it. The Internet only accelerated the existing phenomenon of "If it bleeds, it leads, and a scapegoat must be found" by a hundredfold. Michael Crichton's book Airframe, dealing with this phenomenon as it relates to airline mishaps, is well worth a read for anyone who wants to understand the mindset that drives news organisations in the present day. The scary part is that Crichton was writing about news morphing into entertainment back in the early 90s, well before the Internet took off. If anything his account comes across as distinctly conservative compared to the news environment of today.

I remember talking to my sister about her raising her kids. She brought up an interesting point about using the word "No."

If it's a minor offense like dragging a tree branch into the house, "No" might be the wrong word to use, because if the child doesn't associate enough gravity to the word "No" then it might not take you seriously enough when it runs into the street and you yell "No!". It's an interesting point and one I hadn't thought of, it made me realize what a terrible monster I must have been as a kid.

Shit, my mom deserved a medal of honor for raising me. One time she parked the car in front of our house to run inside for something really quick and left the car running. I pushed the transmission into neutral and the car started rolling toward a nearby intersection while my sister and I started squealing in delight. I still have vivid memories of this; I must have been 3 or 4. Imagine being my mom and seeing our car with her two kids rolling towards an intersection.

Obviously she sprinted her ass off and got in at the last minute and saved us. This is also the same woman that would jump into a boyfriends truck bed as he was speeding off to catch his ass. She was fucking crazy.

Anyway the point is kids do stupid shit and there's not a parent on earth that's monitoring them every second of every hour of every day. That's called a helicopter parent and they're even worse than negligent parents. This goddamn ape is in a zoo to begin with, it's not like someone went on a gorilla killing spree in their natural habitat to collect their bones for bullshit Chinese medicine. I have been saying this for years: animal activists don't just love animals, they actively hate people. LOZ put it far better than I ever could, but I've noticed it for a while.

A generation ago my family was heavily involved in training and breeding pointer dogs for hunting, so I didn't grow up hating animals, quite the contrary. My dad still has had a dog very year of his life and will do so until he dies--but he isn't fucking obsessed with animals to the point of hating humanity. Sure, we get sad when a dog dies, but it was a dog. It wasn't a child. it was a dog, we treated it well but it is still an it and we're still human.

if I were to say all of that to your average American dog owner now, they'd look at me like I'm nuts for not thinking their 2-pound teacup whining bag of dicks dog isn't the smartest and cutest thing since Albert Einstein mixed with Shirley Temple.

I think a lot of this comes from the fact that a lot of animal obsessive people channel their parental instincts into animals instead of into a noble pursuit like raising kids or starting a business. They channel it into a creature that can't even fathom the depths of love and other things.

I got dragged into a discussion about this on Fb and immediately came to my senses, unfollowed the post and haven't looked back since. What do I look like trying to justify the life of a child to a bunch of brainless dweebs who love gorillas more than their fellow humans.
