Bartenders Can't Refuse Pregnant Women Alcohol, NYC Says

What can possibly be bad about "equal rights", they said...

Under the guise of feminism, private businesses owners in NYC must give pregnant women fetal-alcohol brain syndrome inducing abortions, or get run out by the law.

Admittedly I'm no expert on pregnancy, but getting piss drunk in bars can't be good for the baby?

RE: Bartenders Can't Refuse Pregnant Women Alcohol, NYC Says
Quote:It can be an awkward order for a pregnant woman: A glass of merlot, please.

But she is legally entitled to it, according to New York City.

For the first time, the city is explicitly prohibiting restaurants and bars from refusing alcoholic drink orders to mothers-to-be, with new guidelines that say doing so would represent discrimination under the city’s Human Rights Law.

“While covered entities may attempt to justify certain categorical exclusions based on maternal or fetal safety, using safety as a pretext for discrimination or as a way to reinforce traditional gender norms or stereotypes is unlawful,” the guidance released by the Commission on Human Rights on Friday says.

That would also apply to foods deemed risky during pregnancy, such as raw fish or soft cheese. But it’s alcohol consumption by pregnant women that has long driven the touchiest debates over private etiquette and public policy.

At least 18 states have laws that regard the use of intoxicants by pregnant women as child abuse, according to a survey by ProPublica. It was not clear how many jurisdictions have rules that specifically ban restaurants and bars from refusing alcohol service.

Several medical organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Surgeon General’s Office, discourage any alcohol consumption. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has gone even further, recommending that sexually active women who are not using birth control abstain from alcohol.

Nonetheless, many expectant mothers allow themselves an occasional glass of wine, encouraged in part by research showing that small amounts of alcohol may not be harmful. According to the C.D.C., about 10 percent of pregnant women drink alcohol.

“I looked forward to my Friday night margarita during each of my pregnancies, and I think they contributed to a happier, healthier pregnancy for both mom and baby,” wrote one New York Times commenter. Another reacted to abstinence advice this way: “Stop infantilizing women.”

New York City’s new guidelines would not undermine a state law that requires bartenders not to serve guests who are “visibly intoxicated.” But some bar owners worry that the rules could muddy the question of when it is appropriate to cut off a pregnant patron.

“To a certain extent it’s government run amok,” said Robert Bookman, a lawyer with the New York City Hospitality Alliance, a trade group. Under state law, he noted, bars are required to post signs warning about the dangers of alcohol to fetuses.

“Here you now have a city agency saying that if we take that seriously and try to discourage a pregnant woman from drinking, we’re in violation of the law,” he said, adding, “We’re stuck in the middle on this one.”

Released before Mother’s Day, the guidelines from the Human Rights Commission were intended to clarify the anti-discrimination protections afforded pregnant women in the workplace, in housing and in public settings.

The commission said it was investigating at least one case of a pregnant woman who was denied entry to a bar over the moral judgments of its employees. In another case, a woman was refused entry to a concert in the Bronx after she was told that it was an unsafe environment for pregnant women, the commission said.

The city cited research showing that pregnant employees continue to be denied accommodations they are entitled to, such as schedule changes, arrangements for “light duty” or bathroom breaks. Many expectant mothers are also sidelined in their careers, officials said.

The commission said it was investigating more than 40 cases of pregnancy-related discrimination, most involving the workplace. In one case, a pregnant employee who asked if she could arrive late to work so she could attend a medical appointment was subjected to a series of inappropriate questions, the commission said, including “Who is the father?”

“Accommodation of pregnant women cannot be a favor,” Azadeh Khalili, the executive director of the Commission on Gender Equity, said in a statement supporting the new guidelines. “It is a human right and the law in New York City.”

Fate whispers to the warrior, "You cannot withstand the storm." And the warrior whispers back, "I am the storm."

Females still want act "young wild and free" even when married and pregnant.

You should be avoiding putting stuff in your body that you KNOW is bad.

Booze being one of them, you should be treating your body the best as possible when pregnant or sick.

Intaking clean organic foods, non processed, no food or drugs.

WHAT THE FUCK? March 1st article:

Quote:For the first time in history, the city will have a full-time gender rights advocate on the payroll to lobby for women, transgender and intersex people, Mayor de Blasio said Tuesday.

He appointed Azadeh Khalili executive director of the newly created Commission on Gender Equity.

She’ll make $140,000 a year and will report to Maya Wiley, the counsel to the mayor. Her job description includes reviewing city policies through a "gender lens" to see how those policies impact "women, transgender and intersex individuals, and men" in order to achieve greater fairness among the sexes.

Intersex individuals refers to people born with anatomy or reproductive organs that don’t fit the traditional male/female definition.

De Blasio created the Commission on Gender Equity in June.

Normally I would agree with letting the individual dictate what and when to put anything in their bodies, however this case is different in that this is not just affecting her but also the unborn child.

Just another left wing law to reinforce that the unborn child is part of her body and deserves no protection.

I thought bars explicitly had the right to refuse service to anyone, whether pregnant, drunk, or ill-tempered. Considering there's no smoking in bars anymore, this doesn't really come as much as a surprise as the government continues to stick it's nose into private businesses.

Bars do have that discretion in most places in the U.S. But cities can enact all sorts of ludicrous local laws, and NYC is the king of that.

-Feed pigeons
-Sit on a milk crate on the sidewalk (it's an "unauthorized use")
-Smoke under an awning
-Put your bag next to you on the subway, even if empty
-Smoke in a town car
-Stop momentarily or sit on a subway step
-Sell a soda larger than 16 ounces (overturned by lawsuit)

I'm pretty sure if women are going to drink they will drink, regardless of what it does to their unborn child and a law isn't going to change that except turn out the idiots into bars.

Its a woman's duty to look after her unborn child but a man has a duty to not knock-up stupid women who would drink and smoke whilst pregnant.

Women should have enough respect for themselves and their unborn children not to drink/smoke/do drugs while pregnant (or at all). While we can't control what women do in the privacy of their own home (unfortunately), I think we should at the very least not be required to serve alcohol to any obviously pregnant woman. Society's willingness to absolve women of all personality responsibility is atrocious, especially now it's reached the level of legally condoning such poor decisions.

I can only imagine what happens when a woman loses her baby because she got shit faced and falls down some stairs in a night club. There will be a lawsuit about how the club didn't do enough to protect her and her baby.

Also the court can and will arrest you and imprison a woman if she's taking caught taking drugs while pregnant. Once they carry to term the child/family services take the baby away.
I wonder how this will effect those cases.
Will a woman get throw in jail to protect her unborn baby because she's getting arrested for drunk and disorderly?

I say fuck it, let pregnant bitches drink. Let them deal with the skiny yellow baby when its born.

Have you ever asked a woman you thought was pregmnant when she's due, and it turns out she's just got a gut?

I have and its really awkward.

This way busy bartenders don't have to deal with that.

If some bitch doesn't care about fetal alcohol syndrome, imagine the attitude a bartender who refuses her is gonna have to deal with.

This is just another form of child abuse before the children are even born green lit by SJWs and feminists.

If you didn't know how harmful fetal alcohol syndrome is:

Back when I was going to school there were a few kids who had obvious signs of FAS. They were almost always weird as fuck and ill tempered too.

It seems to have went away in the past 20 years because of improved health awareness and warning with regards to alcohol.

So, this dumb cunt wants to bring it back because women should have ultimate choices on their decisions even if it harms their offspring.

I read somewhere that the "inbred" appalachian and hillbilly kids weren't really from inbreeding but mostly from FAS.

Somebody wants a soda over 12 oz? FUCK YOU, THAT'S BAD FOR YOU!!!

This is admittedly shitposting, but I think it accurately captures how stupid NYC (or any other leftist hellhole) is.

In a way, this SJW talking point is also the Achilles Heel of Libertarianism as well. Our actions affect other people, and there is no getting away from it. It is all very well to be in favor of freedom for the individual in principle, but we are not so separate as we imagine, and a woman making choices like this sends a child out into the world who has an effect on other people, and we aren't even getting in to the costs if she isn't paying for health care herself.

Once you start pretending that you are a complete free agent, totally separate from you community, doing whatever the hell you want, you are essentially denying the responsibilities that come with being part of a community, and weakening the bonds of trust and consideration, invisible though they are, that keep us together.

Consider all of the jobs in government, universities (both staff and faculty), business (even the tech industry) and media, that are tied one way or another to feminism...

It's like a "feminist industrial complex".

I've not seen much written about it, but there's probably a whole slew of jobs out there, many of which are clearly over-paid sinecures, that depend on feminism staying "relevant" by perpetually coming up with new ways to convince everyone that their "victim-class" is being marginalized.

I'm sure the movement has plenty of true-believers, but there's probably a more mundane reason these people keep pumping out nonsense: their livelihood depends upon convincing everyone that they're oppressed.
