Janet Jackson is pregnant with her and husband Wissam Al Mana's first child, E! News has learned.

The news comes about a month after the 49-year-old pop star announced she was stopping her Unbreakable world tour because she and her husband "are planning our family." She added she had to "rest up—doctor's orders" but did not specify if she was expecting a child, if she and Al Mana were trying to conceive or if they planned on adopting.

A source told E! News Wednesday Janet is in her second trimester of pregnancy and that she and Al Mana have been working with a fertility specialist for a while.

The singer's rep has not commented. Janet's baby news was first reported by ET.

It is extremely rare for women Janet's age to become pregnant naturally. Those that do conceive typically do so via IVF, using their own eggs they had had frozen during their childbearing years, donor eggs from younger women or embryos made from donor eggs.

Janet had also halted her tour in December, saying she had to undergo surgery, without elaborating. Weeks later, she denied rumors she had cancer. Her last concert was in Dubai at the end of March.

In September 2009, on the heels of her breakup with longtime boyfriend and record producer Jermaine Dupri, Janet talked to Harper's Bazaar about her wish to have children.

"Sure, I'd adopt," she said. "And I think that if I'm really supposed to have kids, it will happen, if that's God's plan for me."

Janet also told Harper's Bazaar she would not encourage her kids to go into entertainment "unless it was something they really wanted to do. If they knew what they were up against."

The baby news comes the same day as Janet's mother Katherine Jackson's 86th birthday, days before Mother's Day this Sunday and less than two weeks before the singer's own 50th birthday on May 16.

The news comes also ahead of the release of Janet's new music video, which is titled, yes, "Dammn Baby."

For the record she's always kept herself in great shape all these years. You've never really seen her balloon up in weight or her being on some fad diet.

Facts are these: A celebrity nowadays can get pregnant at 40+ and have the proper tests/procedures done to ensure the baby ends up healthy (50K+ easily spent). The baby's health is NOT the issue here.

The big issue here is the influence this goes to every single woman who can assume that this is normal and that "they can do it too".

"I don't have to settle early, I can start a family at 49 too"

That's the takeaway people will get. A woman with thousands in disposable income can do that- the average woman can't.

This sort of John-the-Baptist miracle (Google it) in Hollywood is generally achieved by donor eggs, not the hag who wants to have the kid. God knows who the father is, but the mother is certainly not Jackson. And the age of the egg doesn't fix the problem: medically the age of the uterus is thought to have a bit to do with whether the kid comes out fucked up or not.

A lot of guys are forgetting just how much money she may have to throw at this. I imagine the kid will come out fine.

I know an older Hispanic lady who had her first kid at 45--but she and her husband are millionaires and into hormones, anti-aging and other stuff. The kid is perfectly healthy. How do I know? He was my little brother's best friend as a kid so I watched him grow up.

But I wouldn't tell a woman to wait until 45, not unless they've got a ton of money and, even then, it may not work.

I have no plans on ever having kids, but if that were to change, I would certainly do it the "scientific" way to ensure I had a son(s) rather than daughters. Our society is fucked up in many different ways, but I'm not one to throw the baby away with the bathwater, and this kind of technology has uses beyond letting women "have it all."

That's exactly the point. Jackson and baby may do alright, and I wish them the best. The fact that she is a celeb that will try to inspire women with lesser resources to follow in her footsteps is the problem here. It simply isn't responsible to have children at that age.
