I wholeheartedly co-sign on this one. Other atty's in my office constantly tell me they could never get away with wearing what I wear. I'm like, Why Not? Sadly, they simply lack the confidence to stand out. The desire to just "fit in" is too great.
You can wear any gotdamn color you wish as long as it looks good to you and rock it confidently.
Hell, one of my favorite fits is a orange stripped shirt, blue & orange bowtie and blue suit with a pair of orange soled Cole Han's. Topped off with a rose gold watch, bracelet and cuff links.

In my case, using glasses (because I have poor eyesight) is a big hindrance when I try to make a good lasting impression, because I look like a nerd guy who hasn't got laid for a while. Recently, an acquaintance of one of my friends said to him "Your friend seems like a hacker". I laughed hard because I work in a field not related with computers.

All the college girls and models I've met who are 20+ years younger have said they prefer me with glasses when we are out and about. Perhaps because it is congruent with my overall style choices, or they enjoy the Daddy dynamic.

Guys, just don’t do lasik (or prk), stick with your eyeglasses or contact lenses.

I guess it’s worth repeating this warning.

As I said before, eye surgeons don't care about you and your eyes after the surgery: it's just business and making money with promises. They can be good and experienced (how many times you hear that such surgeon performed thousands of eye laser operations), they can give you the 20/20 vision, but only after receiving the surgery you might realize how poor night quality vision you have gained, how irritating is watching (and not enjoying) a film on big screen, especially films with many scenes taken at night time. There is no coming back for that. Without talking about the floaters (they are there, even when you are not thinking about them) and the increased sensibility to light on a sunny day.

I have many hundreds of post-LASIK patients in my patient population. In this population I have at least 75 patients who have suffered from ectasia. Many of these patients were told by their surgeons that they developed "keratoconus" and not ectasia. My only conclusion is this was told to the patient in an effort to avoid litigation.

Glare, halos, dry eyes and loss of quality night vision are not just adverse events but life altering disabilites. Many in my post-LASIK patient population do not drive at night and cannot function indoors in low light situations. As far as dry eyes are concerned, many of these patients' eyes are so dry that they cannot sleep through the night without getting up to instill lubricating drops in their eyes.

Loss of contrast sensitivity is a given in my post-LASIK patient population. Many of these patients were dismissed by their surgeons after being told that they had 20/20 or close to 20/20 uncorrected visual acuity. Yet, these patients still came to visit my office for help in improving their vision. Why is this? Please understand that one could still read the 20/20 line with cellophane placed over the eyes. The 20/20 (or 20/15) line on the acuity chart should not be the final criterion that determines the success of LASIK surgery.

Post-LASIK corneas are permanently weakened. Because these corneas are unstable due to the LASIK thinning procedure, the cutting of the collagen fibers which give the cornea it's strength and many other factors some of which remain unknown, this patient population will need continuing specialty lens care for the remainder of their lives.

Although many of the LASIK studies conducted by the LASIK industry took place up to a year after patients underwent the procedure, the overwhelming majority of my patient population first came to see me 2 or more years after having had LASIK. A small percentage first came to visit my office after 8 years. In addition, the majority of my patients who experienced post-LASIK ectasia, experienced it on average 18 months to 24 months after having had their surgery. I do feel that a significant percentage of LASIK patients with ectasia are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.

The emotional and psychological aftermath of these procedures cannot be calculated. I have had at least 12 post-LASIK patients speak to me of suicidal thoughts. I have one patient who actually attempted suicide on 3 separate occasions.

Those who read my thoughts on this matter should understand that I have no financial interest in the current debate regarding the risks and benefits of LASIK. I do feel that at the present time, LASIK is a clear and present danger to the public welfare.

I met a girl while traveling in Burma and she seemed happy with it. got the procedure in bangkok. She would show off to me by reading small street signs under street lights from far distances in the dark. My eyes weren't as good. Too much time on the computer.

The problem with lazer eye surgery is that some complications are delayed, occurring like 8-10 years later. Your eyesight can regress, you can get eye-floaters, ectasia, dry eye etc.

Two other important things to consider about LASIK :
-LASIK will weaken your cornea, you will forever have a small scar in your eye. So if you get hit in the eye (by fighting, car accident,etc...), your corneal scar might open up. There is another operation that won't leave a corneal scar (called PRK). But that one takes a really long time to heal.
-You will probably need glasses in the future : most LASIK patients will develop Farsightedness (hyperopia) in their 50s.


As for the OP question, dating with glasses was never a problem for me. I have two pairs : a standard black one for work, and a yellow pair that I sometimes wear to stand out of the crowd.

Just take a lot of time to find the perfect pair for you, stay confident, and everything will go well.

Thanks for the skepticism Filbert. I always assumed I'd get lasik someday until last weekend. I had a teammate tell me "wait until you're done playing goalie to get lasik. Your depth perception will be fucked up."

I'll stick with contacts during the day and glasses at night.

I have poor eyesight, so bad that when I asked my optometrist about Lasik she said "for your eyes, the technology isn't there yet." I guess it's because I'm farsighted which is more rare.

Anyhow, despite this I always game without glasses. Here's why: I feel like I look better. From girls I've heard mixed opinions, but from my perspective I look better without and am more confident gaming without my glasses. I've tried contacts but they bug the shit out of me and I can't get used to them.

There are some downsides. I struggle to read anything, even my phone or a menu without making it obvious that I need my glasses. But I've learned how to be discreet about it

Seriously, though, it's all in your head. When I was younger I almost wished I wore glasses a few times; I'd put them on while playing around and girls would often remark how good I looked with them. I probably need them at this point anyhow - maybe time for a visit to the doc.

I guess depends on your face, though.

But again, OP, unless you have it from others that you happen to have a face that really looks shite in spectacles, this is a mental frame issue and nothing more. If you really just can't snap yourself out of it, the obvious solution seems to be get some contacts.I'm hanging in homie.

Sidenote: May mean nothing to OP, but I think wearing glasses on a white guy would go over particularly well in Asia.

I've worn glasses since I was around 12, and I wear them everyday for work and for interviews (to appear more intelligent). I'm pretty blind without my glasses and I always wear contacts when meeting women initially. Wearing glasses does affect me mentally when meeting women, I feel that they're not getting see my whole face properly. After I've met them a few times I switch to glasses 100% of the time.

A couple of things that haven't been brought up in the thread:

- Eye Colour - sometimes glasses can hide your eye colour. On more than a few occasions post bang, I've heard a woman say lying next to me in bed that I've got a really nice eye colour and she never noticed it before. Does this mean women are not very observational? I have no idea.

- Eyelashes - I've had women say they like my eyelashes before - for some reason they're pretty long. I usually get Chinese women saying this to me, since they tend to have very short eyelashes.

As for lasik - a good fried of mine had it done when he was around 33 - 10 years later he's wearing glasses again.

A couple of months I was forced to wear glasses for a few first meetings because I was recovering from conjunctivitis. 2 of the women wanted to meet again, but one of them (Chinese FOB) was so boring I never tried to meet again, and the other one (slim black medical student) was too hard to pin down for a 2nd meet so I never went any further with her.

I'd say no glasses are the way to go - I wish I had perfect eyesight.

Girls tell me they love me in glasses. Makes me look more intelligent and you can switch up your style. I dont usually wear the normal fuckboy clothes with glasses as I do with contacts.

While they are functional, they are an accessory. They should be stylish and complimentary.

I wear contacts about 90% of the time, but after reading this thread I am going to experiment with them more. Upon reflection, I am certain they help my game.

Firstly, they add variability. If I get a girl's number with contacts in, and later on the first date port the glasses, then I immediately appear different than what she was expecting to see. It also is an easy way to break the ice.

Secondly, they allow me to not have to worry about packing a contact case if I happen to be spending the night at a girl's place or worry about thinking of ways to strong arm her back to my place.

Lastly, when talking to a girl over dinner I mentioned that I may get lasik, and she begged me not to.

That being said, I spent a lot of time choosing which pair of glasses that I'd be wearing. I also am porting turquoise shell Warby Parkers. Ultimately, like everything else in game, it is dependent on the individual.

It's a hurdle. Hurdles can be overcome, but it's a hurdle nonetheless. Women are wired to want men who are healthy, attractiveness is determined by indicators of health. Glasses are inherently an indicator of poor genes.

I didn't notice any difference in Asia between wearing contacts and wearing glasses, they might have even been a plus sometimes.

Back in the US it seems like a bit more of an issue but still nothing to worry about if you can't wear contacts for some reason.

Just my 2 cents, but glasses can be useful for age camouflage purposes. Sporty, large square rim glasses can make some dudes look younger. An example would be these Michael Kors frames below.



I personally use them to distract people from the dark circles/eye bags caused by sleep deprivation when I'm on the grind.

Whether they are justified or not, these stereotypes do exist.
It's not accidentally that the kids with glasses are prime targets for bullying in primary school, or that you feel more confident without glasses.

You lost me with this part. Glasses should boost your confidence, especially in a corporate/work setting. Most people that have to wear glasses may have caused the myopia from reading too much in the first place! It does not surprise me that WIA has glasses. He is a remarkedly well read man and is a lawyer. With the right mindset while wearing them, you can use the confidence to provide stronger frame, as if you are an authority on any subject at your whim. If you are not the subject matter expert, your "intellectual gangsta" is still not to be tested or trifled with.

Think outside the box. If glasses are supposedly softening, it begs to question why you would not increase your bravado on an approach while wearing them. Clothing decisions and the way your body is sculpted matters in conjunction as well.

All things considered, yes we all basically look better without them, but dealing with them is more of a hassle than the actual look. I cannot wait to get rid of mine. If I get to upper management I might get some fake ones just for the intimidation factor, if needed...
