It's crazy that mugshots of people arrested are displayed publicly like that. As far as I understand, these people aren't even convicted and their full name and picture is featured on a fairly well-ranking website.

Good luck getting a job after being found not guilty... I doubt these pictures can ever be completely removed.

I think it all stems from the female need for power and agency, at least insofar as controlling their own sexuality. When a woman realizes she's hitting the wall, she realizes there's no stopping it, she will in fact soon lose her ability to influence men/society via her sexuality. So by making herself unattractive through an act of her own volition, she is exercising power over a process that would otherwise render her powerless.

I came across a similar idea in a fictional short story about a woman who is raped, and basically decides to allow it and forgive her attacker in the process, thereby exercising the only level of control possible in the situation.

I've noticed this with both celebrities and women I know in real life. Once they no longer have that glow of youth, they jump on obnoxious "political" causes and start publicly berating people who don't agree with them.
