Mother says she was investigated over children playing in backyard
Quote:A Winnipeg mother says she was investigated by Child and Family Services simply for letting her children play in her backyard.
Jacqui Kendrick, a stay-at-home mom, says a CFS worker showed up unexpectedly at her door in early April. The worker told her they were doing a “well-being check” after receiving a complaint about her children being left unsupervised.
Kendrick has three children ages two, five and 10, who love to play in the family’s backyard after school. The backyard is fully fenced in, with a wood fence covering three sides, and a portion of the front covered by a chain link fence and gate.

Kendrick told CTV Winnipeg she's always either with her kids or looking in on them from her living room windows. She says she feels “completely comfortable” letting her kids play outside.
“We’ve taught both the (older) kids so far that you look after each other. That’s kind of the point. The older ones should be looking after the younger ones,” Kendrick said.
“My 10-year-old is very responsible. We’ve taught the older ones already the whole stranger danger, and they know what to do. When my five-year-old’s out there, she knows she’s not supposed to go up to the gates.”
Still, the worker insisted she was obligated to investigate and ask a few more questions.
“We had to go through a whole interview asking so many questions -- asking me about if we’ve ever dealt with CFS before, what my childhood was like, how I punish my children, whether we drink or do drugs... She had to look to see where my kids slept. She had to see if we had enough food in the house,” Kendrick said.
“The whole time I’m sitting there, pretty much in tears, because I couldn't understand what was going on."
She said the worker seemed to feel that everything was fine and she’s heard nothing further from them. Still, Kendrick doesn’t understand why whoever called authorities didn’t speak to her directly.
“If you really had a concern, you could have knocked on my door,” she said.
Winnipeg psychologist Dr. Toby Rutner agrees. He says in the age of the internet, “everyone feels entitled to give an opinion” on what their neighbours are doing, rationalizing their behaviour as simple concern for the welfare of children.
He also said he believes that kids should be as independent as their abilities allow.
Manitoba's Child and Family Services Act states a child 12 or older can be left home alone unsupervised; it doesn't mention anything about children unsupervised in a backyard.
CTV Winnipeg attempted to contact the provincial government about CFS practices but received no response.
Now, Kendrick worries that her name is on CFS files, and that further complaints could lead to her kids being taken away.
“Anyone else ever wants to complain for any reason, there's always going to be a file there,” she said.

It's all this "see something say something" bullshit, which really just encourages grown-ass people to snitch and tattle on each other.

The government doesn't even need the NSA or surveillance or whatever the fuck, there are plenty of stooges that will sell out their neighbor for a quick buck or because they "suspect" something.

God I am starting to think these moral vigilantes are getting just as bad as the SJW's. Whatever it takes to rat out a neighbor or anyone who doesn't think or act or raise their kids how they or the state thinks it needs to be done. Same things with leaving kids in a car, i worked as a public safety officer for a local city (like police intern) we get a call about a kid left in the parking lot of a car, it's early spring and maybe breaking 60 degrees, the kid in question is 8, plenty old enough to roll down a window or get out, I didn't think it was a big deal but they guy who called it in and was standing around was losing it, freaking out that the kid might die, the kid seemed to be more concerned about the strange man standing outside his window trying to talk to him. Live your own life people.

The age breakdown of the kids suggests there are other factors here. Multiple father's. Drugs. Poverty. No idea but not enough information. I read stay at home mom here and see unemployed.

Where do you think the SJWs learn how to fight for justice? The the answer is the moral vigilantes that were present in our culture. They are not fighting for the safety of children but to for their vanity. This vanity is expressed by showing how great they are in the world by protecting children, by placing them in the metaphor cage. Christianity at it core teachings warn about this type of person, but in the twisted version of Christianity today called Chruchanity celebrates this.

RE: Mother says she was investigated over children playing in backyard
From what I have observed, the snitchers are often no hopers who look like Gollum. They are the segment of the population who can't get it together enough to be SJWs. They are the nitpickers and the grievance seekers, always trying to find transgression in others no matter how trivial, and flipping out over shit that is barely pro forma.

I was listening to a natural gardening podcast and heard this nightmare from a dude who had a couple of acres outside of town and was trying to build his own ecosystem by taking former dirt and grazing land and making it into something where all the different plants had their function--ground cover to conserve water, nitrogen fixers for the soil, edible plants, medicinal plants,-- I mean the guy knew his stuff and was out in a rural place and really trying to rehabilitate some messed up land, and he got all jammed up with the local code guys who told him there had been some complaints about how his land didn't comply with some obscure rule about grass being only a certain height, and, basically, there were treating his semi rural property like an unruly lawn because of a technicality.

Getting information before his hearing, he went and asked his neighbors which ones had complained, and it turned out none of them had at all. He was finally able to track down that the complaint had been lodged by someone who never really spent any time anywhere near his farm. It had in fact come from a guy who spent his time, it was his hobby, driving around the town and surrounding areas looking for code infractions, many of which he had memorized.

The land owner had to spend a bunch of money and time getting an exception to the code, but it was a close call, and all because of some spiteful person whose only purpose in life was making things more difficult for others.

The SJWs go on and on about bullying and emotional violence, and as if they are in the cross hairs when the reverse is what is up. In an overly solicitous, overly trusting, overly pampered world, the obvious bullies have hardly any power. They get stomped.

NO, it is the passive aggressives, the scheming, shit disturbing, sniveling little weaselers who have all the power.

It cracks me up when SJWs talk about using consensus to reach any sort of decision. I was seeing a girl who lived in a university housing co-op that reached all their resolutions by consensus. She said it was an absolute clusterfuck. What would happen was that almost everyone would agree to reasonable decision after about an hour, and then spend the rest of their time trying to get the misanthropic blue haired feminist bitch and the aspie law student who loved to argue to go along with the plan.

Hours and hours they would plead with the two, until finally everyone just gave in because they needed sleep, and that unholy little duo liked nothing better, and had nothing better to do, than argue all night.

Again, it wasn't the screamers and threateners, as the Regressive Left would have you believe, that got their way, it was the recalcitrant, stubborn, passive aggressive misanthropes.

I even saw something like this very recently. A woman had her toddler by the hand and was walking out of a book store, when suddenly the kid tried to collapse on the ground and not go any further. A little fuhrer.

The mom, being a considerate adult, gently picked the kid up by the hand she was holding, and moved her a foot out of the way of the open door.

Out of the blue, from behind me, I saw a big fat dude in dumpy sweats and a stained shirt start shouting, "Abuse! That's child abuse. I am calling the cops."

I see that guy all the time in that bookstore. He seems to be in there all day, every day, reading books and magazines without paying for them, and now he is presenting himself as a fearless champion of the helpless, all the while actually just abusing an stressed out mom who is just trying to get through the day.

Again, the passive aggressive wins, and they will keep winning, in their sad little way, until there is no reward for doing so.

"On is off and off is on. We confuse the language."

I agree whole-heartedly. It's also why I am a libertarian separatist. I have no desire whatsoever to defend the freedom of people like this. In fact, if such a person was in a burning building, I would do nothing.

In more enlightened times, people like this were shunned and despised. They might have been publicly humiliated in some manner.

RE: Mother says she was investigated over children playing in backyard
Another reasonable guess to what happened is that the kids were raising holy hell while playing in the backyard- constantly fighting, crying, and screaming to a degree that it really irritated the neighbors. So, they called CPS in order to let the mom know that the MAN was now keeping an eye on her and that she needs to keep her kids a little better supervised.

If you've ever lived next to someone with kids and you hear constant scream fests, tantrums, and fighting going on, even if it's just among the kids, you might want to find some way to tell the parent to exercise a little more control without getting into a neighbor war. Confronting another adult about their parenting style is a very risky, threatening proposition. A nasty neighbor war can easily break out. So, using the government to do it for you may often seem easier.

Of course, the kind of people who make these phone calls don't have kids themselves.

Not necessarily. If your kids are much better behaved than your neighbor's kids, it could irritate you even more or just as much as if you don't have any kids yourself to see another parent seemingly not doing as good of a job as you did.
