I like that whole British/Rudeboy aesthetic. (Shout to Rudebwoy)

I've never ran with it personally. You need the right build and haircut to really make it pop.

Most guys own polos, usually expensive ones. But the bald head, the leanness, and everything else put together means you have A LOOK.

That's great for general game, I don't know how you flip it for dates - where you typically want to be a bit "extra" for her benefit and your own.

Well said... tall/lean looks great with an ultra-fitted polo. unfortunately, I run top heavy but I have a tailor that helps me slim the sides and the arm holes on bigger size shirts for a sleeker look and to help the arms look more muscular.

Where you located, WIA? I've noticed that fashion-wise SoCal is way more informal than the East Coast and most parts of East Asia. Have had several, "why are you so dressed up?" comments from girls when I wear something I consider relatively casual.

Since we're on the topic of polos, let's get a quick straw poll going; buttoned all the way to the top or not?

I think if you've got thinner neck and are skinnier in general, button all the way up. If you're muscular or have a thick neck, leave the buttons undone.

The vast majority of dudes look horrible in polos though. The fit/cut of the polo is absolutely crucial.

All the way up for sure, same with my button ups, you can't even see the top button because of my beard anyways Laugh

I like my polos with the sleeves a little short.

At least one if not both buttons unbuttoned for me... would look too meaty buttoned all the way up and also one of the few East Asians out there with chest hair. Used to be ashamed of it, but now I've found that women range neutral to positive when they remark on it when I'm wearing a polo or short sleeve button down.

My dad wears polos and he's pretty old. I stick with Topsiders, a plain, white or blue tee and jeans.

RE: The date outfit thread
Usually I dress as well as I can, but once I met an online date at a bar and I wore sweatpants and a t-shirt while she showed up looking sharp in a nice skirt. It ended up being a SNL but afterward she said, "When I first saw you, I thought, Great he's not really into me or this date"

I thought that was funny because my low-end clothing had the effect of making her feel unworthy with something to prove.

^ Haha. "The Dude" Game.

I'm guessing your frame was strong, hence the SNL. If you'd been supplicating, the sweatpants and t-shirt would've been a DLV.

RE: The date outfit thread
Someone mentioned it earlier but I believe it is important for your style to be congruent with your personality, character, etc... However, I do believe some guys can pull off looks better than others. Tall, lean guys as mentioned earlier can pull off certain styles. I'm short and muscular so I have to adjust, no long baggy clothes that make me look even shorter or smaller. Also dressing a little more stylish makes me look a little less intimidating, especially here in Europe (so I've heard). I also think other factors go into it, for instance Onto mentioned that he showed up to a date in sweatpants and a t shirt. Nothing against his style but as a black guy I already know that would most likely not end well if I showed up looking like I'm in PJs. I'm sure more casual look works for others, i.e. Ryan Gosling. But when you look like him, your clothes won't really take away much value. But in my case, they can add some. An example:

While on a date the other night with a tinder girl, a black guy came up to me and asked if I was Nigerian. I answered "no", from the US. Well after a minute of chatting we exchanged our reasons for being in the Netherlands. Myself for university and he was an engineer at Shell (see, it's possible black guys can get good jobs in Europe). I told him he was cream of the crop and impressive to be working there, but he disagrees. He takes one look at me and says that while sometimes the engineers may be doing mundane tasks, its guys like "you" (points at me) that work there as the managers making the big bucks. I was taken aback by that but it made some sense later. Earlier I told him I plan to get my MBA in Germany, plus that night I was dressed up quite well. Navy wool blazer with a denim shirt, khakis and some brown boots. I think a combination of those things play a huge part in people's perception. For me it is congruent with my character because I believe that a major rule of being successful is looking successful, especially since I want to get into business, marketing.

RE: The date outfit thread
Would you dress differently if you were going to X bar to meet a girl for a date vs going to X bar with some friends and hoping to meet girls there? Same venue but date vs trying to pick up - would the outfit change?

I'm looking at this thread as an outfit thread - I don't see why a good outfit couldn't be used in a variety of situations.

I agree with Arado, I wouldn´t dress differently in those situations. The only thing that matter is what kind of night it is, what kind of venue am I going to, I don´t mind standing out, but if it is a cocktail bar I opt for at least a shirt and some smart shoes. Regardless if it is a date or with friends.

He's talking about dates, not just going out to pick up chicks.

Should your date gear be close to what you regularly wear to work/school, what you wear for night game?

WIA's right, I started this thread to specifically go over date outfits. There are heaps of outfit threads in the Lifestyle section, and I put this in the Game section to clear up uncertainties that I had with date wear and share what I already wear.

I'm trying to make sure that my clothes aren't too crap these days so that I look presentable wherever I go.

Arado has a point insofar as if what you wear for a date would be the same would be the same as if you were going out to the same bar on a given night. I would say yes, apart from the added effort for you to dress for a date.
We have a massive bar culture in my city, but only a handful of them have a dress code, none of which is enforced, save for footwear. You could turn up in a T-shirt (though I wouldn't) and they wouldn't kick you out, but you'd better be wearing closed-toe shoes that aren't runners.

I do and don't; as opposed to button-down shirts whereby I default to buttoning up all the way. I think buttoning up of polo shirts have less of an effect than doing so on button-down shirts; the V-shape is less pronounced. You're using the fitted outline of the polo to show off your figure.

unless you are rocking a tie, i don't see any circumstance where you button up all the way to the top. that just seems nerdy as hell to me. or chulo/gangsta status if that is your thing.

Not to get all rah rah, but an element of the game is psychological warfare. You want intimidation, because it puts her on defense and makes her seek approval.

This doesn't apply to dates, specifically, but how long after college did you guys were your college sweatshirts? I've had girls come up and start talking to me about my university.
