^ You may have been a lot more successful after shaving your head but surely you can't speak the same for every single man on planet earth. Maybe a shaved head suits you, but the majority of men just look like cancer patients after shaving their heads and that's simply not attractive to women, no matter how much game you spin. If you think you can pull off the Vin Diesel look by all means go for it as it will save you a lot of hassle but if not, appearance is a big thing in modern society so I would be doing everything possible to keep hair on your head.

I have to co-sign on this. Every hairloss thread mentions just shaving it and using someone like Jason Statham as a role model. Problem is most guys don't have a perfectly shaped skull. Hair on your heard does the same thing to your skull as having a beard to hide a less than perfect jawline. I know i will look like shit with a shaved head because I look terrible with anything less than a number 5 buzz up top.


So I stumbled into this thread because for the first time in my life I noticed the very first signs of hair loss....I am thinning in my crown area. I am well into my 30s so I've been lucky so far but father time has indeed made his presence known. This is the very first signs so I want to take action immediately before things actually become worse and noticeable. My immediate thought was what was causing this to happen. So besides just blindly accepting the 'its just genetics bro' excuse I have noticed within the last couple months i've had some tingling numb sensations at the top of my head which I was chalking up to stress levels from work. I know i've gotten these symptoms before when I was legitimately stressed from work a few years ago so I think this is similar. I can't say this is related to the thinning but I'm not ignoring it either.

Starting immediately I'm going to try multiple things(thanks to this thread for some ideas).


1. Stimulate blood flow in the head - This may be complete bro-science but massaging my head was something I've done for years and it's something that i've ignore in the last few months. Not saying this has anything scientifically to do with thinning but I've going to get back to do this everyday. In additional I've owned a boar hair bristle brush for years but its something I haven't used in a very long time. I will say it's interesting 2 people in this thread mentioned these methods.

2. Coconut Oil everyday - Hector mentioned using somekind of oil in your hair everyday and this is something I've actually done for a while but I've haven't been using it daily for a few months. Maybe once or twice a week but im going to get back to using it more often.

3. Supplements - I've been slacking on taking supplements for a while now. Right now it's just fish oil. I am going to up my fish oil dosage a bit to include both fish oil and cod liver oil everyday, GNC Womens Advanced Hair, Skin and Nails Formula(It's a modified multi-vitamin more heavy on Biotin), Hairgenics Pronexa Hair Growth Supplement(Again it's almost like a modified multi). Im not going to be taking both multi's on the same day as they share a lot of ingredients. Going to switch between the two for different periods.

4. Nizoral. I have had some scaling on the lower back of my head(could be slight Psoriasis)

5. Clean up diet a bit more and start a digestive enzyme regimen or at least when take them when consuming large means. Im going to try Onnit's DigesTech. I've been meaning to do this for a while.

6. Try to be aware that the stress levels from work aren't real.

7. Might consider getting full blood work soon since I should get this done anyway.

8. Cut back on coffee consumption. I might be going too hard on coffee and giving my adrenal glands a rest. Im not saying my hair is thinning because of this but just adding it to the list of things.

Good thing I have a perfect shaped head for shaving. I had long hair my whole life as an teenager an adult untill my hairline started receding slightly when I was 32. I ended up somewhere that shearing ones hair off was part of the intake process. At that point I hadn't seen my bald head since I was 14.
Suddenly I realized how much more of a badass I looked with a clean shaven head and that in retrospect even though women love it, having long hair for a man is kind of iffeminate.
Own it, you are fighting a losing battle. People who keep their hair once its starts receding or thinning look ridiculous.

I take Jarrow brand Toco Sorb for reasons that have nothing to do with hair. However, I did find my hair grew faster and thicker after about a year on it. The effect was mild at best though.

Protein, vitamin B, adequate sleep, relaxation, less stress. I started pulling out strands of my hair in my 20's travelling long term in Europe. Wasn't getting enough sleep/food.

Look up "Hair like a fox" see if it helps.

Medical route is Finasteride, Minoxidil and a Ketoconazole shampoo.

You can also experiment with the RU substance.

Thanks, I remember you posting it before. I can afford to do it, so I am certainly incorporating it for at least the next year. What's your[other] best effect in general, you just it for antioxidant value?

I had a past issue with very high LDL cholesterol (I got fat). I took it as part of a supplement regime with other vitamins to raise my HDL and lower my LDL. It worked.

Good point. I have a bump on my head that is hidden by hair. Intentionally going bald in the future would not be a good move.

I've been taking 1mg of Finasteride on and off for many years. Usually the positive effects return within six months of restarting but not so much this cycle.

In reality, how noticeable the thinning is depends as much, or even more, on my hair cut. By keeping it relatively short and off the forehead entirely, it looks less like a comb-over and more like a guy who just has short hair. I can live with that.

Another idea is using boars head brushing on the scalp. An hour a day or more.

All of the chemicals and potions are probably best avoided...

Ive seen anecdotal accounts of spraying sodium chlorite/MMS solution on the scalp with regrowth occuring, could be because of possible yeast/bacteria on the scalp also effecting balding and hair loss

But good discussion, ive had thinning on my front hair and am interested in avoiding hair loss or balding. It seems testosterone has a part to play, and estrogen especially in having a counteracting damaging effect

Yet again, DHT (oxidized test) and your genetically determined reaction to levels of it is THE cause of male pattern baldness. You're not contributing to this thread by chiming in with new age nonsense about magnetized "structured" water or even worse MMS. Anyone with half a brain who does 30 seconds of research can see through those phony sales pitches. I drank structured water from a wild stream one time. It gave me beaver fever. Still was losing hair until I got on evil "chemicals" like minoxidil and RU, which was mentioned on page 1 if you read it.

If you're not scared of sides Finasteride and Minoxidil combination is an almost guaranteed recipe to halt and even reverse hair loss in almost all men.

Statistically significant numbers of people have seen reversal of gray hair by supplementing with inositol and PABA. This information is derived from double blind clinical trials and is available on NCBI, this should be the first thing you check before you post next time.

Aside from Nizoral for shampooing one other option I'm trying at the moment is also to use a shampoo with a DHT blocker. These have shown some success in clinical trials for reducing thinning and creating re-growth.

TheWire's post above is spot on. Reality is your best options outside Finasteride (which has some really bad side effects):
1) Shampoo: Nizoral, one with DHT blockers.
2) Head massage.
3) Laser low level light therapy. Again there's plenty of science behind this and medical centres use this. You can also buy off the shelf versions but they are probably less effective. I've been doing this a couple of times a week.
4) Supplements such as biotin. My GP tells me it's a waste of time, but again there is clinical trial evidence for it. You can always get it in combination with another product for hair and nails e.g. collagen which you will clearly benefit from in other ways.
5) Minoxidil.

That with the right diet should keep you in good stead.

There are a few products to artificially thicken your hair if you have any bald spots.

Failing that get a hair transplant after 5-10 years.

There are some good studies showing that it's pretty effective at growing hair. I can barely see anyone using it though, and only can find it as being sold in eye drops (it's usually used to treat glaucoma) with 0.005% dose when you need something like 0.1%.

Absolutely you can. I ruffled my hair in front of the sink a while ago and noticed a lot of hair fell out. My dad went bald when he was in his early twenties, so I started to worry. I'm still a teen and losing your hair is awful. When I pull on my hair now I'm lucky if I get one hair. I started taking BIOTIN (a natural hair supplement) and eating healthier, drinking more water, and I think it has stifled my hair loss a lot. Try it

I've been on finasteride for almost a month now and so far I've had no side effects. I've been seeing a girl these weeks and my libido is as usual.

I was also a bit worried with all these stories about guys not being able to get a boner and so on but decided to give it a try after my brother recommended it. He's been on it for 2 years now and his hair loss has stopped almost completely with also no sides.

Minoxidil has proved almost useless for me, although I do think it is slightly effective for the crown area. I use the foam version of regaine since the liquid one is too messy and made my scalp really itchy.

I disagree about not considering a hair transplant. The technique has improved a lot in the past years and you can get them in Turkey for around 5K. Another option would be scalp micropigmentation which looks good if done right and is also way cheaper than a transplant.

If everything fails, I'll just shave my head and keep on with my life. There's no point in worrying too much about these things.

If you are worried about side effects from finasteride/ dutasteride, dont take it every day. You dont need to completely crash your DHT levels to stop hair loss.

Hair transplants can be done for cheap in other countries, medical tourism is a big industry for a reason.

It's all genetic. Brushing your hair and lathering up in coconut oil won't do shit. I've ran 2 grams of test and a gram of tren and just grew hair faster. It's all genetic.

You can learn to live with it, or try Rogaine and microneedling, which are safe, inexpensive treatments that have worked great for me so far.
