RE: Approaching and Hitting the Male Wall
As far as my aging experiences go, I have experienced a mild cognitive decline, but I've managed to get back up and at em by reading challenging materials on a daily basis, increasing my fat intake and writing a lot. I feel like my mind has resharpened itself.

I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

My guess is Letterman is having a great time. I couldn't imagine being on TV all the time for decades, constantly on-air and under scrutiny. He is just blowing off some steam and giving all that BS a hearty fuck you. Good for him. Guy is loaded and can do anything he wants. What he wants now might be strange to us mortals, but he is in rare company.

When im 70 I hope to be in a similar state where most of life was incredible and now I don't give a shit, just grow a huge beard, exercise, read, look at some grandchildren.

RE: Approaching and Hitting the Male Wall
I find I get more attention now than I did 20 years ago, this is because so many other men my age have let themselves go and /or due to there genes they just look like shit.

If you do all the positive things that are repeated over and over again on this forum as you age, you will be that diamond in the rough, you will have that edge that you could not have perhaps had when you were 20 (when I was 20 I looked like a pimple faced young teenager) competition is fierce in the 20s, its hard to stand out as a prime specimen among so many others.

The one thing with this though is that most of the attention you get will be from older women, this doesn't bother me though as there are plenty of hot early 30s women around.

I am 40 and I still get regular attention and IOIs from young girls but I NEVER tell them my real age unless they are 25 plus.

RE: Approaching and Hitting the Male Wall
I think one thing being overlooked in this post is setting yourself up for "options" later in life to help avoid that wall. I am by no means a wealthy man, but I was able to figure out a way to match my career into an international lifestyle which is heads and shoulders above anything I would be living in the USA.

I am 41 and know if I was still in the USA I would be a chunky, alcoholic, drug using, middle aged man chasing around single mothers or easy bar sluts. Who knows maybe I would of married some average single mom, living in a cookie cutter suburban home.....bulldozing my way into the "WALL".

I go back home once a year to visit. I am amazed to see how my friends and family are all almost invisible to the opposite sex. How many are overweight, and gone to shit. Many walk around in a foggy almost lifeless state, stoked mainly about the next big sporting event. I feel so lucky I was able to get out before I was settling into a life I didn't want.

Living abroad, has given me a boost, a second life. Physically I started TRT last year and find the physical and mental boost a game changer. My sex life is great, and I have dates with young femine women, when I go out solo I almost always meet a women or feel some warmth and reciprocity towards my advances. This would not happen in my home city in the USA, here women simply don't have the same hang ups about my age.

I feel like there are endless possibilities and opportunities while most men my age are going through a mid-life crisis, stressing out and fearing their later years! Again my advice to the young men, set yourself up now so you have "options" for a life/career overseas away from Western culture!

RE: Approaching and Hitting the Male Wall
Great topic and one that is long overdue.

I am in my late 40s and I guess you could say I am one of the lucky ones. I generally get pegged for being in my mid 30s, which is a relief.

There is no way you can hit the wall in your 20's and even 30's, you keep growing until you are 25.
Too many guys take their bodies for granted, if you keep mistreating it eventually it will say fuck you.
Case in point I know of three guys who passed away this month, the age range is between 36 -50.

I wish guys would stop referring to TV personalities, you should only be concerned with the person in the mirror. I don't know Letterman, but I am sure he doesn't give two shits about what people think of him.

As you get older exercise and diet become way more important. Junk food should be eaten at a minimum, once a week or once a month at best.

RE: Approaching and Hitting the Male Wall
I predict a thread like this would be moot in about 15 years.

Between stem cell replacement therapy, collagen replacement, nano plastic surgery etc... it will be all about having the money to refuel yourself.

The exercise and diet focuses and fads will go from 80% importance in a pie chart to about 5%.

No matter how many avocados, cyrofreeze sessions, stretches, or workouts you do, you will still age.

Scientific intervention is the only thing that can literally turn back time.

Sometimes I just hope guys think long term in this regard and how the importance of money will grow exponentially as both you age and as each year goes by to afford the super healthcare and cosmetic cares of the future.

I think in 25 years you will literally be able to make "best version of your face" with nano plastic surgery and gene therapy for an affordable cost with little pain / recovery.

Michael Jackson style as if his plan worked out as intended to the fullest with out all the bandages and pain killers. It will be strange.

You cannot replace your youth, no treatment can.

I take TRT and yes it does wonders, but I still have other issues.

Men should accept aging and growing old.

Trust me, no amount of TRT will get me boners comparable to when I was a teenager.

I am talking boners that hit my stomach and that I could place a wet towel on.

Men need to accept aging, it's a part of life.

RE: Approaching and Hitting the Male Wall
Medical treatments cannot replace the human will and spirit to live a healthy life-style.

Self control and discipline are mindsets extended through exercise and diet to keep us healthy for life.

Increased availability of "fountain of youth" procedures will allow more people to simply abuse themselves and later re-up their dosages.

I am all for progress in medical tech, but unintended consequences come with the upgrades.

In 1850, no one would have imagined all the fatties we have today either.

RE: Approaching and Hitting the Male Wall
It's important to define what "The Wall" really is.

"The Wall" is the point in your life where you are past the peak of your SMV. You can no longer increase or even sustain your SMV.

This is a difficult metric to measure with men.

It is easy with women because the way we generally define their value is with their beauty, youth, firtility, and ability to care and nurture for family and household. Therefor, "The Wall" for a woman is typically when their looks and ability to reproduce and rear children decline.

A man's value is defined by a number of different variables that are not all entirely governed by age. Not to mention that generally a man can still be very attractive and sexually competitive into his 50's and beyond given his lifestyle. Women do not value youth in men like men value youth in women.

Looking at the cream of he crop with the best access to personal health, there are far more attractive middle aged men in Hollywood than women.

A man's wall is the point in his life where he is no longer able to leverage his assets to gain desirable women who would want him to father their children.

Given the state of "family" in the West the "fathering their children" thing may seem archaic but you get the picture.

A man could be in his 60's or even 70's as long as he's in good physical shape, financially sound, and can still get it up and make babies then he's still in the game.

RE: Approaching and Hitting the Male Wall
Yes, at age 48 years, 7 months my peak distance was 20,000 meters (long course) per day (low intensity doing 8,000-10,000 meters in the morning with weights (45-60 minutes) afterward 3-4 days per week followed by 8,000-12,000 meters in the afternoon. The afternoon workout was preceded by (30-45 minutes) of dryland training 3-4 days per week. Morning practice is generally in the water at 0500 and finishing at 0700-0730 (weights followed). In the afternoon, dryland training began at 1430 and then in the water at 1500-1515 until 1700-1800. Sometimes we had mental training in the evenings depending on the meso-cycles and competitions. Saturday practices were/are normally a 3 hour ordeal often with weights or dryland and/or mental training afterward. I dropped down to 18,000 meters peak distance shortly afterward during the next training cycle. Now I am at 16,000 meters peak distance and my next dip will be to 14,000-14,500 meters. My body fat is normally 6-6.5% during peak distance (where my fat intake is moderate, cholesterol in range and my T-levels near 800) and will drop down to 4.5-5% during taper where my body super compensates and I compete. When I am surfing more my body fat is 6-8% and I am a little meatier as surfing is more power and less endurance than swimming in general. If you are interested in workouts, sets, intervals or other specifics, send me a PM.

I'm sure your routine was different than what's normal as a modern airline pilot, but do you have any tips on how to counter the stresses of constantly changing between night and day work?

I'm an FO at a semi-major in Europe (think Southwest) and typically do 4 flights, 5 days on with 3-4 days off. I've already decided that I'll avoid commuting at all costs and make sure to do both aerobic and anaerobic exercises, but there's no way in hell to get a consistent sleep rhythm. I'm in my early 20s and at the moment, I find it pretty easy, but some of the older guys are noticeably worn out.

Also, nowadays there's a huge focus on the dangers of radiation and constant pressure changes on the body. I'm assuming NASA did a lot of research on this, do you have any input?

I agree, I just turned 61 and don't feel a whole lot different than when I was 30, but then I've always maintained a healthy life style since my 20's. I don't smoke, I eat healthy, hit the gym three days a week and cycle at least 10 miles a day when the weather permits...I'm the same weight I've been most of my adult life (6'2" @ 175-180lbs.) and am on no medications of any kind...On the other hand, most of my friends of the same age look like shit and all are convinced I've got a really ugly portrait hung up in my attic....

@Running Turtles

Yes, NASA has done a lot of research on sleep, sleep cycles and rest in general. As it relates to hGH (and I will make a separate post) deep sleep particularly in stages 3 and 4 of Non-REM sleep is where over 50% of your hGH is released. Not sleeping from midnight to 4am and especially 2am-4am seems to be the most detrimental to the performance of flight duties. Flight test (that is not human performance based) is normally in daylight and over two periods in the morning is optimal (inverted spins and trying to force the vehicle outside of the operational envelope at night is not wise). If you are flying for FedEx or UPS you might start to feel other effects when you have multiple cycles per night (especially in excess 4 and upwards toward 7). The change will be easier if you fly one bid-cycle on days then another on nights. Depending on your seniority and equipment, you will get the less desired bid-lines and must deal with it. I would try to bid the longer international routes and equipment with less cycles per 24 hours, even though your TAFB (time away from base) is longer. If you are flying with hazardous cargo, you should have a radiation badge on (so make sure it is good) and consider blood work twice a year to confirm. I know stuff is being (legally) flown around and it is serious.

From the operational side of combat flying at night, the amount, quality, and regularity of eating was a major factor and there is a degradation of performance (accuracy of munitions placements, and the effectiveness against primary, secondary and tertiary targets) as the number of combat sorties increase over relatively shorter period (day) and it is more pronounced over expended periods of time (X sorties per day over Y amount of days). Attempting some regularity of exercise (particularly weights in the morning) was helpful was well as rest before Ops. Aerobic exercise in this environment was difficult, but the circuit training and things like jumping rope were helpful.

I would consider staying in the right seat longer to stabilize your body and then when you get the chance bid to the left seat when you have enough seniority to not get the less desired routes. You will, of course, being sacrificing money to do so and I do not know how seniority is calculated where you are flying.
