Those seeking a new moral panic to get their teeth into, ideally one involving women's bodies, were delighted this week by the emergence of the "A4 Waist Challenge".

First reported on by China's People's Daily, the "challenge" sees woman showing off how small their waists are by covering them up with a sheet of A4 paper - which has a width of just 21 centimeters - and then showing the pics off on social media.

The trend emerged on Weibo, the Chinese social network - and, while there's no evidence that it's taken off in the west in any significant way, western commentators have been quick to slam those involved in the fad for promoting unrealistic body expectations.

The furore over the A4 challenge is extremely reminiscent of last year's minor brouhaha over the "belly button challenge" - another fad spawned on Weibo, unimprovably described by People Daily as "reaching your belly button from behind to show your good figure."

I came across this article a couple days ago. Brought it up at work and some of the woman had heard about it. Soon, I had all the Chinese female coworkers taking the challenge. My female American colleagues surprisingly declined to participate. For sure this is something I would never dare to bring up back home in the states, but here? The chicks loved it.

Ideal weight for me is around 100-110 lb for an "average size" Asian girl. I'm not talking about flab, talking about girls who actually work out.

Honestly.. This isn't really impressive. When you factor on the size of Asians.
When do so many girls are barely above 5'3, they can't carry much weigh. I've seen plenty of chubby Koreans that would pass this.

Gym culture is taking off in China in a big way.

It used to be that women only ate very little in order to stay thin. Now a lot of girls I know are hitting the gym. Most have very little idea what they are doing, but that too will change.

Prime opportunities for Personal Trainers to make a mark. These Shenzhen girls especially are getting into it. I showed one girl some squats, lunges and kettle bells and the results of her ass were enough to get a bunch of other girls who were jealous of her new booty into the gym.

But yeah, Chinese women are obsessed with their waists. And to an extent so am I. Hourglass figures are fucking amazing.
