Got a question for you Colombia experts:

It's been said many times in this thread and others how Colombian girls are flaky and if they do show up, are often an hour or more late. I'd like to hear how you guys react to this. Do you admonish them for being late and not showing respect to you and your time or do you play it off as no big deal and accept it as a cultural difference?

I've been traveling in Argentina for nearly 5 months now and have noticed that many girls show up pretty late without any notice. My gut instinct is to give them a stern explanation as to how it's unacceptable and then move on with the date, but is it better to act unfazed in this situation? I imagine it will be even worse in Colombia, where I'll be traveling through in 2017. Partly my fault, I got to get over my gringo/Japanese importance of punctuality while in South America.

I'm not an expert, and this is a deep question. In my case it depends on the girl. Normaly if I have 2 dates in a row, and the girl is not coming or is late, I won't continue.

However, last week, I met a girl in CC. One of these gems we find once in a while. Seriously, her pictures were like viagra for me. She's 20 and looked like these girls in the high quality xxx movies. I am 40, so go figure.

When we setup the date, for Thursday, she stopped replying. Then messaged me on Friday apologizing, I told her that I went to party without her. Asked her if she wanted to come again, she flaked. Saturday she messaged me again. same story. I told her I am not sopping my party for her. She can come is she wants, anyway I don't care. Told her to call me if she was around.

She came Saturday afternoon... From the outside I was like "mehh" , and from the inside I was like "Holy s.... this is my luckiest day..." and the planets aligned, we ate, 5 minutes later made up in the park, 10 minutes later to the apt. And yes, it was a fucking fantasy. Now she is totally into me, buying lingerie and all that stuff. At this point I lectured her about flakes lol.

So this was an exception to my rule, but I am trying not to show too much interest. If they are very hot, I give them a second chance but under my rules.

Just avoid it being a problem by scheduling dates with more than one girl. You can't put the fate of you having a good time in these girls. Make it so when you tell a girl no problem let's reschedule you are being genuine and you really don't care.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. Traffic is shit here and just a bit of rain in Bogotá can turn an hour's journey into 2-3 hours. Best advice I ever read comes from Lonely Planet: "When meeting Colombians select a place where you'll be happy waiting for an hour or two."

I was in Medellin a month ago. I got robbed by a taxi driver. It was because of my sheer stupidity tho, I hailed a random cab while I was on a acid trip and asked him to hook me up with ecstasy. Long story short I jumped out of a moving car, he came after me with a knife. I gave him my wallet my phone, he took my wallet took all the money gave it back. That was kind of him. He took off with my phone tho. Total damage 100$ colombian currency and 300$ phone.

99% stupidity on my part, all of this could of been avoided if I used some common sense.

Yeah it /is/ suspicious, and always gets my attention but I reckon a third to half of taxis I take these days are chatting to their mates or gfs about where they are and where they're going. Never turned into a real problem yet.

Haha no, I cut my trip short after that and returned to my country. To give you an idea where I hailed the cab, it was near the happy buddha hostel, there is a park in front of it. The cab came there he was talking to me, I went inside and asked him to hook me up with ex.

Oh and 2-3 nights before that I got busted with ex in my pocket after the cops got suspicious and searched me. I bribed them 200-250 dollars, they even let me keep the drugs. I know it sounds like I'm bulllshitting and these are crazy stories, but its not man.

I'd love to hit you guys up If I ever return to Colombia, my parents would probably disown me If I go there again : ) I spent a total of 10 nights in Colombia and didn't even manage to get 1 legit bang. I made many rookie mistakes. Some asshole in park llera even sold me fake 2cb powder, I got ripped off 50$ from that deal as well.

The coke I snorted was shitty too, needed to drink some alcohol to feel its effects, it wasnt the 99% pure coke i was expecting so from day 2 I said fuck coke, MDMA is good for me

I go to Southeast asia and Ukraine/Belarus regularly. If you guys ever head there make sure to let me know. Right now South America is a long shot for me at least for another year, my parents freaked out after I told them the story eventhough I left major details out of it, like telling the cab to hook me up with ex and that I was on a acid trip

I've been to Thailand a total of 5 times in the last 2 years and I absolutely love it. Colombia was pretty good too, but so many unfortunate things happened within a very small timeframe. Nothing like this happened to me in Thailand, but then again in Thailand I wasn't trying to score drugs because I know it has a strict no drug policy : ) I exercised huge caution there, but Colombia? I treated it like my own country, end result = no good

You guys are funny as all fuck. I don't miss my days of youth, when young you are invincible, I did dumb shit all the time and it was fun. Usually it was the next day when I would think, "that was not smart."

1 - When not fucked up, try and ask around and find either a taxi or Uber guy, be cool and respectful, grease him with 50,000 and tell him he is your guy. Normally they will take care of you. Most likely he will treat you right, he wants to make coin; even if he has shady connections, he doesn't want to share easy coin with anyone. Another thing is to send, or just pretend to, the taxi's number to someone, they DON'T want to be the one traceable.

2 - The Door guys are your friends, really. Give them 2/5,000 peso note when you say hi (not necessary every time you go in/out), and/or, if you are going to the pad from the store, bring them a cold drink and a small snack. On the good side is this - the skanks that are bad shit, if they know the door guy is on them, much less likely they are going to drug/rob you. And just because they are girls doesn't mean shit, many are working with a BF.

3 - Maybe the rental agreement has a cost if is more than one person, many do, find out first.

4 - Most Colombian guys are cool with gringos. There is the occasional "machista" asshole, but normally the locals have all the tang they can chase. Several years ago I said to a Colombia friend of mine, "there are a lot of gringos coming here now taking our women." His reply, "take em."

5 - Partying in the street, be very careful. There are some bad motherfuckers that are always looking for an opportunity to jack someone up. The difference in Colombia relative to many places - they will kill you here.

6 - Cops, traffic cops, most will take the bribe. 50K will work if only one, make it 100K if two, and the level of your "infraction." Unless the law has changed, it in NOT ilegal to have blow or weed for personal consumption.

In all cases, do not be the arrogant, loud mouth, our way is THE way gringo - respect, a smile and a kind word go a long, long way.

Next year I will be in Colombia for the first time and that's what I'm looking for - of course I will try to sample younger girls, too, but they are not the main focus. My advice is to stay away from Medellin. Bogota and Cali will be good for you.

If you want the milfs, dont eliminate the 19 year olds since you are 25. Once you are pushing 40 it won't be easy to get them. So, go for it, just keep your options open.

I've noticed more milfs and the 30-45 year old types tend to hang in Fondas. Not many gringos go because it's mostly groups and they aren't too fond of Colombian music. For Medellin, If you want the ones who are simpler go to la 70 and just walk and bar hop. If you want the ones with cash, kukaramakara in rio sur can meet your needs. Lleras you can find them in Thaico and the other restaurants.

My boy in Centro got caught walking home with a few grams on him and the cops wanted 10mil pesos ($4). He told them fuck off so after talking a lot of time trying to convince him it wasn't that much he kept saying "Fuck these pigs I'm not giving them shit anymore I live here."

So they take him to jail and some lenient or the police chief sees them bringing him in and says "What's he doing here?!" and proceeds to bitch out the cops for arresting him and asking if they realize how much fucking paperwork they will have to do for this. He tells them to bring him right back to where they found him and after matt starts bitching at them for the drugs they took.

Somehow he gets the drugs back (I don't know if he paid them for that or not) and comes back to tell us the story.

One time I paid them 50mil and all my friends who live in centro were like "Woah dude that's way too much 15 max from now on."

The crowd who live down there are funny as hell.

That's one case where I'd definitely pay the fucking fine just to get them off my case, the last thing I'd want is to go anywhere with Colombian police. One RVF member got extorted by the cops in Cali, they took him to an ATM and forced him to withdraw 500.000P then dropped him off in a shitty area, this was at 6am after he left an after hours, likely some type of set up. Hanging out in centro at night is just too sketchy, I'm not saying it wouldn't happen again but there's way too many shit heads in those parts, I like to just chill around la 70 where I'm not going to get knifed for 50.000.

Guys I'm planning some off-the-beaten-path travel to the wilderness of Choco department (Pacific coast) for a few days then taking an eight hour river boat to banana country (Turbo, Caribbean Antioquia). From there I will continue onto Cartagena by bus then fly to Isla San Andres for a week then back to Cartagena. If any of you are interested in joining me, let me know. Here's what my rough itinerary will look like:

January 18: Fly from Medellin to Quibdo (150.000P), try to scoop up a local girl to take to Nuqui

January 21: Go to Nuqui with a girl and a big bag of ganja, go surfing and get high and play with turtles and do some fishing

January 24: 8 hour boat to Turbo, stay there for 2-3 days

January 27: Bus to Cartagena, hang out there for a couple of days

February 1: Fly to San Andres, go diving, smoke more weed, chill out on the beach
