Jezebel may not die if they actually have a business model that makes money. They can just separate their "brand" from gawker and get new sponsors elsewhere.

However, feminists have a habit of running any business model into the ground. So first they need to find a willing (male) financial backer from silicon valley willing to spend millions on a site in venture capital that will gross a few hundred k a year at best. Meanwhile the feminist editors and staff will magically all get salary increases and new purses/iphones/shoes for their inner hamsters.

I thought that guy had sold his interest in gawker, to protect it?
i.e isn't the law suit against him and another guy, not gawker pe se. I haven't really read much about it, that was what caught my eye with a quick skim.

With regards to whether gawker or jezza actually makes money, I find it quite interesting that many famous websites don't actually make money. e.g Twitter as a prime example. I don't believe the dotcom bubble is truly over.

I believe I read somewhere that Gawker Media actually makes a modest profit of around $5 million per year.

It is true that many sites do bleed money while hoping someone figures out a way to monetize their traffic. Twitter being one of the biggest ones.

The unfortunate thing is that Gawker probably won't pay $115 million, it will probably be reduced down to something more modest like $20 million after appeals. The other unfortunate thing is that even if Gawker is ordered to pay the full amount the sites will be sold to the highest bidder and the snark will continue with a new owner, likely a big media corporation like Disney, Viacom, Comcast, or News Corp. Nick Denton would likely land a job with the new owner and get a fat salary at the same time.

(The source was a Reddit account with only 1 post, created the day before the Jezebel article appeared, so it was obvious the blogger herself had fabricated it).
