My law professor said that most murders never get found out. They will count as accidents or natural causes. He estimates that our graveyards would glow in the night if you light a candle for every murder victim unaccounted (at least in Germany).

In Colombia you can have a local whacked for a few hundred dollars, I have a gringo buddy who looked into hiring some hit men to beat up his gringo business associate but they wouldn't do it, they only kill. The price to kill a gringo is a lot more, I think he said $5000 because the embassy puts a lot of pressure on local police to solve the crime and it looks bad for tourism. I know another guy who told me about a gringo who was being extorted by a Colombian who had photo evidence of him banging young teenage girls (which Colombians do all the time but the guy wanted to get some cash). The gringo decided to hire a sicario (they're apparently easy to find) and one morning while the Colombian guy was walking his kid out the door on the way to school, a motor bike pulled up and unloaded a bunch of rounds into the guy, killing him in front of his kid. Of course the murder is unsolved and the gringo is probably still here screwing teenagers.

Most of the time, police have nothing to work with in an investigation. Besides that, people are so programmed into not cooperating with police, that usually police suspect the one who helps them the most.

A nurse once told me that it was common (it was implied that she did it but I wasnt asking and she wasnt telling) for care personnel to, ehem, ease old folks into the afterlife. Just turn the dial of their oxigen tanks down a notch or slip them one more pill in their paper cups. And that it was pretty common for them to be asked to do it by family members (to which she implied that they always said no) And I know for a fact that the deaths of old people are seldom, if at all, investigated.

And evidence degrades fast. I heard of one case where this fat dude was found dead at his place after the neighbours called police complaining about the smell. Alone, no family. They bagged him as a John Doe and sat in a freezer for months. Autopsy revealed he was shot 7 times with a small caliber. What do you think they found out about that?

We humans are a funny species. We could fall off a cliff or crash a bike at 160mph, and just walk away with a scratch and a broken thumb, only to slip in the shower and die the next day.

Id say only a small percentage of murders are investigated, and of those, only a small percentage of those investigations end up with someone doing time.

Interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing. I always wonder why the hit man doesn't just take out the guy that gave him the money. I mean the only guy that knows he paid the hit man is did but I guess it would be bad for business if people found out you killed your clients. Also I guess referrals may be important in this line of business. I dunno. Just sort of fascinating in a fucked up way.

I'm pretty sure that you pay a portion of the agreed sum upfront then the rest once the job is done.

If you have committed any heinous crimes yourself in Miami and the police do not have enough evidence to convict you then your chances are (or were) very high of being murdered by a serial killer.


Otherwise, I would say they are pretty slim.

In a place I lived here in Ecuador (shitty 3th tier city) a hit can be as low as a 100$ depending on the target. I felt pretty safe in these parts, but you realize these things, you really start to wonder. One bad reputation with a girl or some guys and it might be the end of you. I still think it is a very small chance, but price is not the variable to worry about, just don't fuck with the wrong guys.

Ps obviously to kill a gringo the price would be a lot higher.
