My favourite breed atm is the so called Magyar Vizsla.
It's a Hungarian breed, which is known for it's superior hunting skills.
My parents use her for hunting a lot, because they are well trainable pointers. She's very smart and has a pretty sensitive personality. Needs much love. They are also very good with water and Swimming.

I don't know about you guys, but I fucking HATE small Dogs. There personallities are usually fucked up and they are super un-chilled. A Dogs back should be at least the size of your knee.

I've got a Saint Bernard / Collie mix right now. He's big, drools like crazy, and sheds worse than he drools, but I wouldn't trade him for the world. Getting a puppy and raising it as your own is one of the best things a young man can do. It teaches discipline, patience, persistence, and the ability to care for something outside of yourself.

I agree with the other posters about the horrible breeding that has happened to the German Shepherd. I grew up with one who had a little bit of that crouch, but not nearly as severe as they are now. The older he got, the more difficulty he had simply standing up. Towards the end of his life, his hips were so bad he couldn't even raise himself off the floor to greet us. He'd just lay there wagging his tail and looking at us with pitiful eyes. It was truly depressing.

GSP (German Shorthair Pointer) for the win. My favorite breed; smart, strong and beautiful. My girl turns eight this year and hands down the best dog I have ever owned. Dogs are the best, unconditional love and loyalty, it would be nice to find a female human with these traits!

This could be her twin but my dog has a white stripe running between her eyes down her nose.

I ve been harbouring this idea of getting one of them nifty helmet cameras so I can film my little guy when I play with him.

Had another pitbull that did the same thing:
He bites a rope,and when I see that the grip is good (total bite no frontal or canine side grip) I whirl him around spinning on my own axis,as brutal as it sounds he enjoys it like hell.

Then again these guys were used to bait bulls and bears so I guess its in their genes to enjoy hanging onto something that moves

Love dogs.

I've had sighthounds all my life. Afghans and Salukis.

Salukis are the 10s of the dog world. Beautiful dogs. Nowadays they're bred mostly for dog shows in the Western world, but in the Middle East (place of origin) they're still used for hunting birds and small game. Top speed 70 km/h.

They have an interesting history too - they're thought to be one of the oldest, maybe THE oldest, known dog breed. They're depicted on murals in ancient Middle Eastern graves and in later Chinese paintings.

When I get my own dog it's gonna be a Saluki. They're independent, loyal and easygoing. And people often stop when on walks and comment on them since they're pretty rare.

I really like dogs, i'm actually planning getting one in the near future. I was thinking about getting Jack Russel since I like their size, their outgoing and smart. I have some doubts about going out with him multiple times a day, specially every morning, no matter the day or the weather. But I guess it will be rewarding, having the dog love you and being your friend.

What about a French Bulldog,or a Schnauzer mini or toy?
They re a bit less energetic

Shetland sheepdogs. They're typically about 14-16 pounds (~6.5-7 kg). Great breed. Very smart, affectionate, good with kids, not prone to acting like little cunts and getting all bitey. The only downside is they have loads of hair, so they require regular grooming. Just make sure you go to a reputable breeder (as with any breed).

If you want a lower energy dog, adopt an older dog from the pound. Get something 5-7 years old, and it will still have some youth, and quite few years left, but will not be a destructive bundle of energy that needs more attention and space than you can provide.

Plus, I think dogs at this age start to develop wisdom that a young dog doesn't have. A dog this age will actually understand that it was in a bad spot at the pound, and that you taking it in and giving it a permanent home is a great good.

I was never really a dog person growing up. I wasn't allowed to have one and all my friends dogs just annoyed me. In my early twenties I thought a dog would really cramp my style.

I bought a house a couple of years ago with a huge backyard and I started getting the itch for a dog. I ended up getting a five year old female chocolate lab. I could not be happier with my decision. Labs are so loyal and happy but she is old enough to not bounce off the walls or ruin shit. She is big enough to warn or dissuade an intruder but friendly enough to not be intimidating to neighbors and she is great with kids.

Also there is nothing better than spending a weekend hiking and swimming in West Texas with a lab.

Depends on your lifestyle. How much land you have etc. They like to do what they're supposed to do. If you can't afford it for them it's going to turn it bad!

+1 for the German Shepherd crowd, have had them since I was born. My dad used to put me on their backs and I'd ride around the house. Definitely only breed I'll ever own (or a cross with shep).

I agree that the hips are a huge problem though, and I would look for the dogs that are bred to be police/search and rescue/working dogs, as their blood lines are generally less tainted with the bad hip issues. My current dog is almost 13, and was a show dog, Canadian champion and all that jazz, but in the end, she's suffering from degenerative myopathy; she's loosing her back end because of the spine and hip issues. It's sad to watch but she's not in pain.

I love the breed for the loyalty, the ability to be integrated into a family, and the high energy. My girl could jump a 7 foot fence in her prime with no issue, and could run for hours. You need to be a stern trainer with them though and make sure they know you're the "alpha" of the pack. They have one of the strongest bites behind Rottweilers and Mastiffs, so that is also a major consideration in not getting them, but with proper training, I think any dog can be a great friend and loyal companion.

I would consider getting one of the "German Shepherd Derivatives" as I call them: German shepherds that have been bred to not have hip issues or to slightly alter their looks. My favourites are the Shiloh Shepherd:

I love the wolf heritage and the handsome face. Only dog for me.

P.S. Spalex: Legend. You want the name to have generally 2 syllables as dogs respond better to that. I'm naming my next male dog Legend.

Heyy my puppy shit outside 3 times in a row today. That has just made my week!

The cunt has doubled in size again.
I have been away with for for like 6 days at a time. So my girlfriend has been taking care of him. Teaching him nothing but bad habits.
But, now I am back, I can't believe how easy it has been to train that out of him.

Some things have been easy to train: Sit, drop whats in your mouth, no biting humans, focus (make eye contact).
Other things are taking a lot more work: Stand up, don't pull on the leash, stop throwing a tantrum you little cunt!

Toilet training has been pretty difficult. I don't know if he is too young to learn all this shit or what? He is about 10 weeks.

But, it's no different to training a girlfriend. Reward good behavior, discourage bad behavior, keep persistent and eventually it will pay off.


But yeah with the German Shepherds crowd. I also hate the German Shepherds with the arched backs. My guy is technically an Old German Shepherd. So I am pretty sure that means that his fur is a little longer, and his back is straight. Both his parents have straight backs. It was one thing I made sure to check.

He's damn cute, going to grow into a beautiful shep. I'm surprised by his colouring though, usually the breed is extremely dark when young (most are almost pure black). You may have a sable on your hands, my second dog was sable and she was truly unique!

Looking forward to more pics, makes me nostalgic of when my girl was a puppy.
