This song has always irritated me. And in particular those lyrics, I'm not sure why, the rest of the song isn't any better.

"Hey, if your life is tough you could always quit school and become an alcoholic." Maybe she didn't mean it quite like that but that's the message I'm getting from it.

Perhaps the most perplexing thing about Pink is that she's held up as a positive role model. It isn't hard to recognize that her songs are not encouraging anyone to better themselves.

I got another one from Spotify this morning. Miranda Lambert's "Mama's Broken Heart". For those of you think that psycho-ex-girlfriend-grrrl-power crap is limited to the pop charts, it's infected country music too...

Basically Paul says its due to a combination of factors, mainly:

-The actual music being produced is created by only a few individuals, which is then "branded" by artists
-A study that explored music over the last 10 years found that lyrics on average are becoming simpler as time goes on
-Studies show that as we are exposed to a certain song over and over again we tend to like it even if initially we did not, a Stockholm syndrome to do with music if you will
-The only point I think is alittle odd but may very well be the case, as the world becomes more chaotic humans tend to crave songs that have a positive vibe/lyrics
