The result of the court case is just a minor technicality in the grand scheme of things. I am very confident that the motion will pass in parliament, as only the SNP, Lib Dems and the Greens will vote against it. That is only 65 MPs out of 650 total, so even if some Conservative and Labour MPs rebel against the party line, it should still pass reasonably comfortably.

The way it should have been done if it had to go through the parliamentary route would be to count the vote per constituency, and then the MP for that constituency votes in line with how their constituents voted.

Relax guys. It will be passed. Both major parties are committed to triggering Article 50. I expect them to now pass it within a week or two.

The House of Lords (unelected chamber) had previously blocked the Brexit bill (triggering article 50 and starting negotiations) over worries about 'EU residency rights and EU nationals', which is of course total rubbish.

But somehow the Government has persuaded the Lords to back down and they passed the bill, meaning we can start to leave.

They previously blocked it to be approved by Parliament first, now that they've approved it the House of Lords have no choice but to allow Brexit to truly begin.

It's a real victory that this is set to go ahead next week.

That said, the divisions in this country now are horrifying, and the left are determined to ensure that Brexit is no more than a plaster on a bullet wound.

What is so frightening about this whole thing is how infected with the Chicken Little mentality so many of those who should be more sensible are. There is real glee fueling large swathes of the population at the prospect of a catastrophic collapse, untold economic suffering, and punitive measures being enacted by the EU. The greater the hardship Brexit brings, the greater the orgiastic outpouring of joy will be from the 'I told you so' brigade.

More than this, I feel we are a country circling the drain. Not in some doomsday sense (or even Domesday sense), but in the sense of being confined to the role of perpetual also-rans, fractured by infighting, and a diminished or stagnating rate of progress whilst others prosper.

I was in London over the weekend, and the levels of aggression, and unpleasantness, even amongst the many who would be well advised not to court danger, was quite shocking. Out and about, in a relatively affluent part of South London, there was such an atmosphere of despair and violence. We seem to be becoming a people consumed with envy, jealous of each others successes, and unmotivated to generate our own. I was with an extremely pretty girl, and the men on the table next to me were griping about it all evening, talking about whether she'd be impressed if they beat me up, and whinging about a girl like that being with an apparent pretty boy like me. These were not down and outs - these were guys in collared shirts, reasonably well spoken, working in the city.

This to me was symptomatic of what I saw repeated (not all with me, of course), in one form or another, in the bars and coffee shops I went to over the weekend. People who should be leading good, happy, and interesting lives seem consumed with envy and despair. There is a kind of determined despondency that has the vast majority in its grip at the moment, and it is making for a hugely fractured society.

I am not one for doom and gloom, but the divisions in this country are very real, strengthening rather than weakening, and are increasingly colouring many aspects of social interaction. I think this will only increase over the coming months and years, and I think the frequency with which the seemingly innocuous will spill over into low level violence is likely to increase significantly. More than ever, I would encourage all UK forum members to think very carefully about their personal safety, to anticipate likely sources of danger and move to avoid them, and to train very seriously so that you remain libidinous and immune to the fugue of depression, and so that should some situation prove unavoidable, you will be as ready as it's possible to be for that eventuality.
