Opinion on tucking your tie into your shirt?

I've always been a fan, think it gives off a rakish don't give a fuck vibe. Plus its actually practical when it comes to eating and drinking

Anyone have any strong opinions for or against?

That said, Tod's makes admittedly very nice models. Spotted those nice and quite unusual carded-wool sneakers (perfect to wear with stylish jeans and, to mix the styles, a classic dark-grey winter coat) on their fall-winter catalog. I like a lot and certainly will buy them -but I know that for longevity, I'll have to wear them once or twice a week at max.

First thanks for the advice and on-going discussion. I've learned a lot from you all as I try to upgrade my fashion sense...

One question, I've read, I think here, but might have been elsewhere that wearing a suit jacket with other pants is a big no-no. I asked a salesperson at Nordstrom about this and he said, "oh yeah, you don't want the jacket to wear out before the pants."

I think that in context the comment was meant more as a fashion prohibition (ie. wearing a suit jacket with different pants looks like SHIT!) than a wear issue.

So, here I am with the next item on my acquisition list being a Blazer or Sport Coat to wear with the rockin' selvedge jeans I've finally gotten broken in. I've looked around a lot and really like a couple of Peter Millar jackets, but I've also been looking at second hand stuff on ebay and http://www.therealreal.com.

So, here's my question... (finally, I know!) ... Why is wearing a suit jacket with jeans such a non-starter? and, How do I tell an orphan suit jacket from a sport coat?

Is it just the reduced structure in the shoulders? Isn't that just a matter of degree with the less-structured suit jackets blending into the more structured sport coats???

Opinions on white jeans? I recently bought a pair of good quality G Star ones and have managed to find some nice styles with them. Dressed down with a muscle top/fitted T-Shirt and white high tops or navy boat shoes, or dressed up with dark brown shoes/belt with pretty much any coloured shirt. The colour seems very adaptable and stylish.

I think they are great if you can pull them off. It is one of those kinds pieces if you can, it places you a level higher.

I recently bought a pair of very thin white jeans that have a little stretch in them. I've been wearing them as mostly a yuppie look but I will experiment as you just mentioned with a tank top and maybe some leather sandals.

White jeans can look very sharp and on point if worn with a light weight, high quality button up, with 3-4 buttons undone and sleeves rolled up. Shoes can go in many different directions.

The "no suit jacket with jeans" thing is all about the texture/material of the jacket. And I do agree with those who say it'a no go.

The smooth texture of a suit jacket just doesn't look right with jeans. It's too fine a fabric, and too formal looking, clashes with jeans. A suit jacket should also fit just so, if it fits as it should then there will be no room to wear a sweater under it as you might want to do with a sport coat, for example.

That brings you to sport coats and blazers. Despite the terms commonly being used interchangeably, they are different. A blazer is typically blue, has gold buttons, it has nautical origins. Some people do wear blazers with jeans, but in my opinion it doesn't look right.

What you want is a sport coat. Sport coats usually come in textured material, frequently in patterns, less formal looking, easier to move in. They pair nicely with jeans, not too formal yet still look sharp. Some have more shape in the shoulders, and that can look perfectly fine, but I prefer a "soft shoulder" coat (without padding).

A medium grey herringbone sport coat is a very versatile, I'd start there.

First post in here, have checked out this thread many times though. My question is on hair.

Luckily, I'm still young so I have a full head of hair. My hair colour is slightly dark brown, and changes in summer and winter. Anyway, I've recently noticed that when I get out of the shower with my hair dripping wet (and black in colour), I then have the relatively rare black hair and light blue eyes combination, which I think looks quite good on a guy (no homo).

So my question is, do you think it would be worth me dying my hair black (from brown). It would definitely make me easier to be opened and complimented. Are there any downsides to this?

The suit jacket+ jeans combo is a great combination, but it is hard to do it properly, because many factors are involved. These factors are:



- Race (for example, some colors and combinations look better on a Black guy than on a White guy, and vice versa).

- Subrace (again, some colors and combinations look better on a guy of Mediterranean complexion, and others look better on a guy with a Germanic/Slavic complexion).

- Beard and hair color.



My example:


I am a mixed Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern subtype (White, darker skin, pitch black hair and beard. People think I am either an Arab or Spaniard usually).


I usually combine a black (sometimes dark red) suit jacket (with a red/white pocket square, to draw attention, no tie), a white shirt, and a pair of Levi's 511, Rigid dragon style (dark indigo blue). On a slightly more formal ocassions, I wear chinos instead (usually grey).


That color combination would not look too good on a Black dude (he would probably need a sky blue or light yellow suit jacket, for example).




The way I did things is that I watched how famous people, which are similar to me, dress, and tried to implement most of their style into my own.

And do not listen to salesmen. They would rather have you buy a full suit, than a suit jacket/blazer only!

Earlier today I carelessly got permanent marker on my chinos. I was late for work, so I just quickly dabbed rubbing alcohol on the stain and brushed it with a old toothbrush. I left thinking by the time I got home the stain would be gone. Nope:



Not only is the stain still partially there, but there's now a white blotch surrounding it. Is there any way to fix this?

How much does dying your hair move you up the looks scale (1-10)?

How long does hair dye take? How often do you have to do it? How much does it cost?

Without actually seeing you, I can't assume it would take you up the looks scale so much as to qualify a significant time and money investment.

Isopropyl alcohol solvent, it is perfect for removing dyes, and thats why it created the white spot- the dye bled when soaked in alcohol, you removed the color basically.

Depending on the yarns the fabric is made from, and the type and method of dye application, this is may or may not happen. Almost always will with natural fabrics.

Lots of black T-shirts here, but they're incredibly diverse IMO. They're the canvas; add a nice pair of jeans or chinos and some dope footgear and you'll be top shelf in most places during weekdays.

When I observe people on the bus, in the mall and pretty much anywhere else, I'd go so far as to say that 80% don T-shirts that are ill-fitted, have ridiculous prints or yuuuge brand displays (brand cucking), or multicoloured/patterned. Sport jerseys and band shirts fall into this category as well. No doubt they take the advice that "colour and statements are bold" to heart, thus ending up looking like everybody else.

I'm very simple in style. I don't work in finance or law, so no need for me to have a huge selection of suits and shirts since I'd barely wear them outside special occasions. But I put in time to find simple, classy, good fits which will lasts a long time, are insensitive to trends and combine easily with the rest of my wardrobe; something that does the job outside of the boardroom, wedding or other dressy events.

The number of guys knowing how to pick the right T-shirt are dwindling by the day as testosterone levels decline and brand cucking rise. We can use this. Stand out by picking the simplest there is.

This is basically my style, do all of your shirts fit you tight or do you have some slightly larger ones that look big but still show that you have muscle? I've been wearing shirts like in your second photo but I have a good bit more muscle than that guy so my pecs are a little defined.

I wear almost all shirts fitted like the one in the first pic and a few like the second pic (a tad more loose). To me it's just right; it doesn't look like you're wearing a shirt fit for a small horse, and conversely it doesn't look like you bought XXXS to make your muscles pop. I'm a bit leaner than the guy in the first pic.

Any particular shirt brands you buy? Always looking for shirts that are quality and last long. I like shirts that have a bit of a "body" and structure to them and aren't too thin/loose.

Cotton naturally stretches. Shirts or jeans made with cotton and (bit of) spandex often don't.

I usually buy shirts that have a bit of spandex (5 to 7 % at max). Better comfort and lasting shape, easier to hand-wash and no need to iron (best for a wrinkle-free trip). Kenzo makes high-quality cotton shirts with about 5% spandex, and they are great. I guess some other brands also (a priori Boss doesn't). And furthermore, if your weight fluxuates a bit during vacations, that's what you want to wear lol .Same for polos, Lacoste has nice cotton with bit spandex models. Personally, I usually avoid to buy 100% cotton stuff.

I had a discussion with a female friend of mine recently...she said that short-sleeves shirts are totally unattractive, they look 'cheap', and so polos...only T-shirts in her eyes make a guy look interesting...or long-sleeves shirts.
What do you think? I disagree with her...

Polos for the same reason and more. The Polos gets a lot of bad rep over the years from nerds and posers wearing them wrong which is why you don't see a lot of stylish man wearing them. Also Polos are out of style these days. They were all the rage about 5 years ago.

But this is how they killed the Polos.

1. Posers wearing pink and act like an attention whoring idiots
2. Collar poppers. I've seen men as old as 60 popping it. No need to say much more there
3. An onslaught of old guys wearing Polos. Truth is, Polos were always a nerdy wear but since Polos became a trend. Even more nerds and old guys wearing them.
4. Over saturation. Polos is one of the easiest clothing items to buy and wear because the collar is very flattering on any body type. You're just going to be unoriginal or just get pulled in as one of the posers.
