You could find one of those guys to rock hammer pants and a fedora and he'd still be alright.

But for us non-models it just comes back to the individual and the understanding of congruency and what works for each of us. No right or wrong.

I'm shorter and built more like a running back. Generally the less clothes the better for me.

So instead of wearing that spacious pajama hoodie when I'm walking on the beach with my girl, I'm going to opt for the tappered silm fit long-sleeve henley instead.

Hey Guys,

I like to do most of my shopping online and I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for buying good blazers for going out. I find that wearing a blazer out on the town looks good, and can go with most outfits. Conversely, I don't want to buy a terribly expensive blazer just to go out and drink in. Are there any good websites you guys know of for buying affordable casual blazers?

That's a very good list, and for me, as a european, it's quite surprising to find it on an american forum (this styleforum.net) ........I wonder how many americans have ever really heard of high-end (and top-quality) brands like Brunello Cuccinelli, Kiton, Canali, Corneliani, ect ect. Not much IMO. Quality-wise, it's a list that works also for knitwear, coats, ect for that matter.

Appreciate the tips, I was wondering you guys have any thoughts on leather alterations. Recently bought a Hugo Boss leather jacket online and it fits perfectly, except for the sleeves. Do you think a tailor could possibly shorten them? I know leather can be tricky.

A qualified tailor should be able to easily do that, just don't take it to the first Vietnamese chick on the corner with an alterations shop, this chick must have got confused and thought she was doing nails cause she butchered the sleeves on my down jacket.

Corneliani mainline = canvassed
Corneliani Trend or CC = fused, aimed at a younger audience, less expensive (at this price, must be Trend or CC ..... will not held up well IMO, but $250 is nothing, so if you like it, you should go for it)

Same thing for Pal Zileri and Pal Zileri LAB, or to a lesser extent, Ermenegildo Zegna and Z Zegna (but Z Zegna is still much better quality than Pal Zileri LAB or Corneliani Trend).

Fully agree about Boss suits by the way ....that said, Boss knitwear (wool or cotton) is often of good quality.

Also Corneliani used to (or they still do?) make the Made in Italy Polo Ralph Lauren stuff which can be really nice quality. Their pants used excellent fabrics and their Preston cut had a higher rise. So Corneliani can produce really nice quality, their mainline is often recommended.

Have any of you guys tried out a service such as trunk club? Its where they mail you clothes and you have a personal stylist of sorts. I've never used a service like this, wondering if any of you have had positive/negative experiences with it.

As a person who made quite a lot money reselling Hugo Boss suits on the side, I agree with your opinion concerning the quality of Hugo Boss suits.


Hugo Boss Red and Black label (and very rare White label, no longer in production for 20+ years) has nice fabric, but the construction is...meh. And it's sizing I don't like as well. For example, in many cases, the suit jacket fits me just right, but the trousers are killing me, because they are too tight!


The jackets, polo and dress shirts (avoid HB T shirts though, they are utter crap) and denim products, however, are quite good (regardless of label), and they can last you a long time, if you treat them properly. BE CAREFUL OF FAKES!!


Suits from Hugo Boss Selection line are much better quality (many suits are half canvassed, and the fabric is better) and on pair with many low tier Italian suits. It is a good start, but, buy it used, because the price of a new one is just silly (1000$ +). If you have that much money to spend, rather buy some high end used (or on auction/sale) Italian suit.


And yes, Hugo Boss Baldessarini is quite good (made in Italy, I think Caruso used to make them), but, that line is very rare (even on Ebay), because production ceased in 2006, when these two companies (HB and Baldessarini) split ways. Baldessarini still exists today, and it's suits are good quality (I wear one).


TLDR - Don't buy Hugo Boss suits (unless they are dirt cheap in your thrift store, or have VERY low price in some auction). Rather buy suits from the top of the list that I have posted. Their leather jackets and jeans are however, very good.


Be careful of fake Canali and Zegna suits- these are HEAVILY faked. Buy from companies that are not (Kiton, Brioni, Pal Zileri...).

IMO Boss jeans are not that good, and especially in style. Diesel is much better and offers much more fits (skinny, tapered, straight, carrot, bootcut, ect) and washes. Leather jackets IMO are so-so also, bought two years ago a leather bomber (some 1200 € - "Boss-Mc Laren" high end line) but it was obvious (from the start) that the leather was good, but not of true high quality -yeah, bought it at the Boss store in Paris, not at a market in Istambul lol. @toejam: if you're on a budget and looking for decent quality (I say decent because you're not really getting anything special for the price. If you want something more durable, you'll have to shell out a few more bucks) loafers, then check out Nordstrom's 1901 brand.

I saw a nice pair of Tod's loafers recently, beautiful in fact, but the £300 price tag put me off. The little rubber studs you get on the soles don't seem to offer much in the way of longevity (value for money). Does anyone have any experience with these?
