Dissenting opinion here. Yes, the characters were pussies (mostly) and there weren't many alpha personalities there.

However, I found the show extremely humorous. Let's not forget that there is nothing about humor that's either alpha or beta. I'm not ashamed to say I laughed at a lot of it, especially Chandler.

That being said, the pedestalization of women was the worst thing about it. Every time there was a woman one of the guys (except Joey) liked, they would stop being funny like they were around their friends. Instead they turn outcome dependent.

My point is that the STYLE of humor that the male characters use on women actually works in getting them interested. Lot of women find it endearing and entertaining. However, at that point you have to escalate and that's not funny to the intended audience of the show. The creators know this and put barriers in front of the characters that are more inner game related. Joey, again is the exception of course.

I'll say that I'm actually funnier because of the show but no better a man because I now know how to filter the liberal crap.

Edit: It was a fairly beta ass sitcom named "Charles in Charge" in the 90s that contributed greatly to my American accent when I first came to the USA. It demonstrated what white Americans find funny. If it wasn't for me watching sitcoms, I would still have an Indian accent and also wouldn't be as funny.

This is a good thread idea, though. This is one of the biggest shows ever, and admittedly I spent a lot of my childhood watching it. I've seen every episode at least once. I'd catch the occasional episode on syndication when I was a kid, and it has its funny moments. I tried watching it from the beginning after Netflix started streaming it, but only got partway through episode 3 before going "nah".


In the very first episode Ross's pregnant wife leaves him for a woman, then she and her lesbian lover decide that they will raise the baby together without his involvement (without even running it by him first, just sprang it on him), and that it's last name will be a hyphenation of the two ladies' names.

And he just rolled over and took it.

Chandler was annoying as fuck, I paid attention to every single one of his lines, and they were all some negative snarky statement, the kind that typically come from those types of guys who are simultaneously deeply insecure and have a superiority complex. Each of those conversations would have gone on the same way if his lines weren't in them, they were so superfluous.

Phoebe's bad songwriting was probably the best part about that show.

I was watching some behind the scenes interviews about Seinfeld's pilot. The network told David and Seinfeld that they liked the show but wanted a female co-star. David was absolutely against it. For what reason, I don't recall. However, David acquiesced with the intent to write Elaine as a male character.

This approach is interesting for a couple of reasons:

1. Elaine is unique in sitcoms because as a female she is written with flaws. She isn't just needy, but bitchy, righteous, shallow, vain, dense (extremely rare for a female character to not be the smartest), and her part of her comedy is a result of bad things happening to her or her poor decisions, not her being inhumanly witty and acerbic ALL THE DAMN TIME like most "funny" female characters.

2. Did David and Seinfeld realize the inaccurate portrayal of women on TV and in movies? Was insisting on writing her character essentially as male somehow saying, "Hey look, in all the shows on TV every female character, though sometimes not very interesting, is entirely smart, capable, competent, pretty, and successful. Women aren't like that. They're much like men. They do dumb things. Smart things. Fail. Succeed. We will write a character with the warts and all that reflect the American female." Or perhaps I'm too optimistic in how red pill David and Seinfeld are.

You are right. I too have read the fact that NBC forced Seinfeld and David to add a woman to the show to make it more interesting for the audiences.

I also agree that Elaine's character as a feminist is shown to be stupid at times, dense, vain, shallow, and also the show makes a lot of jokes at her expense. While other sitcoms will also make fun of their female character that comes after a ton of feminist and SJW pandering which Elaine's character doesn't convey at all. Unlike shows like How I Met Your Whore Mother and Friends, there is also no happy ending for Elaine after riding the cock carousel. She doesn't get to marry Jerry at the end of the show for her dream wedding. That to me is huge after watching a lot of these sitcoms where the feminist agenda is nauseatingly on display. I don't really know how "red pill" Seinfeld and David are but they definitely wrote Elaine uniquely and did not put her on a pedestal.

Hell, even X-Files which a lot of people like on this forum is guilty of that. I have been watching that show from the beginning on Netflix are there are a lot of feminist undertones with Scully. I am only on season 3 but there have been moments where Scully has talked about "being a woman in a man's world and helping other female officers" or being an "equal partner" with Mulder.

Funny thing is 5-7 years ago I wouldn't have blinked an eye watching that crap but now I can recognize these agendas right away.

Differing opinion here but I actually really enjoyed the series. I wasn't even born when the series debuted but I caught on to it while it was on syndication on one of the cable channels. I'm a sitcom person for the laughs and its harmless fun as long as you know how to filter out the SJW and the beta stuff. Whoever takes TV seriously is probably beta blue pill anyways.
