Excellent foresight in this situation. You have to set an example for other false accusers. If you can't back up your accusations with facts, don't make them. Nobody would accept people going around alleging murder. They would want to see a body, a murder weapon, etc. We cannot have accusations of heinous crimes without any evidence in a civil society.

That was the most outlandish thing I have read in a while. It's preposterous to even humor reading it to it's full ending and it is clear libel and defamation. I would ask her to give back her High School diploma as she clearly hasn't earned or deserved it, especially given her being a writer, but knowing the kind of person who writes such childishly attempted character assassination she probably has been in the schooling system for longer than I have been alive.

Am I protected if I use the word "alleged" in crime stories?

Only if you attribute the statement to an official source that you are privileged to report. If you opt to use the verb "allege" in a crime story, the subject of the sentence should be "police," "the law suit," "an indictment" or some other official source, which is then fairly and accurately reported. Keep in mind that reliance on an official documentary source over informal disclosures by officials is always best.

In short, S. Jane Gari does not know the law in this area and her belief that the word 'alleged' makes it not libel is completely wrong.

In Gari own posted comment, she admits that there is nothing official to cite, which is where the use of the word 'alleged' would have given her some protection from libel.

If you're about to levy criminal allegations against someone, gleaning law from Google is not a good idea, which is what she apparently did.

I definitely appreciate all supportive comments, and a lot of them are funny, but I ask that you refrain from anything that might be deemed to be "harassment" of Gari, including doxxing or negative comments about her appearance.

We already have the moral high guard and don't need to lower ourselves on the level of SJWs like Gari.

This really shows how Roosh is being made into a scapegoat for all the pent-up cognitive dissonance that SJWs have over the migrant rape crisis. Gari's/"Susan's" account lacks the ring of truth on several fronts.

First, as was pointed out EvanWilson, it's odd that a woman in Iceland would contact this particular blogger/author to tell her story.

Gari claims she "interviewed" Susan. Yet if this is true, she has chosen a strange way of presenting Susan's tale: not in Susan's voice, but in third person, in effect as a reporter relaying a factual story.

Gari's account jumps to an undetermined later point in time when Susan discovered Roosh's books — a discovery which, according to Gari, "mortified" Susan. One imagines that a rape victim would be much more "mortified" by the fact that she has been raped, than by learning of her alleged rapist's literary output.

Susan, naturally, did not report the rape to the authorities. "He’s an American and she lives in Iceland," Gari explains. "She feels she has no recourse."

Susan might feel that way now, but did Roosh magically vanish from Iceland moments after raping her? It's preposterous that a woman would fail to report a rape to the police on the grounds that the rapist is a foreign tourist.

It all reads like bad, poorly thought-out fiction. I wish Roosh & his legal team victory.

The whole thing reads as fiction. Even actual rapists don't do what "Susan" is accusing you of doing.

It's very much the Rolling Stone "beer bottle to the face" thing rearing its ugly head again (actual beer bottles don't break when thrown at a human head).

Good on you Roosh. Fight back. These people need to be held accountable, no matter how small or big they are.

I think it is worse than that. There have been a few recent cases about what one needs to do in order to have the protections accorded to journalists, which a google search would have lead her to.

She cites to no case authority, or how or why she thinks that saying it is 'alleged' is ok. It appears to be just how she feels things work.

I wonder if she deliberately did not check the story (or even if there is even a Susan that told the story to her) or her use of 'alleged' because she didn't want to find out that both beliefs are wrong.
