Maybe Russia will next perform a Kalibr missile strike at the very heart of our mighty and impartial judiciary, which judging from the recent events must be located in Hawaii...

RE: The Syria conflict thread [re-titled]
Where you nuke depends on your goals and capabilities.

NYC is the sort of place terrorists would target if they had a single nuke. It's a shining symbol of US wealth and decadence, right? So they want to hit it. That's why it suffered two serious terrorist attacks in the last 30 years. And it was only incompetence that stopped the first WTC attack from killing loads of people.

It would be foolish for a military strike to do more than rough up NYC a bit, though. Why bother attacking NYC when, if you're successful at crippling the government and military, NYC is going to fail in a few weeks anyway? You don't need to nuke a dense city to kill it. You just need to disrupt the infrastructure for awhile. Leave them alive but suffering; that just makes things a lot harder on whomever is leading the country after the initial attack.

That's how I view it, anyway. Other cultures might think it's more important to strike at symbols for purposes other than terrorism than I do. They'd be risking a lot of anger from most of the rest of the world for attacking civilians explicitly, though.

Also, if the goal is conquest, it would be pretty stupid to attack many cities for the obvious reason that then you'd have to rebuild a bunch of shit after invading.

The funerals of SAA service men killed by Trump's air strike. Most of them Christians from the nearby towns and villages.

Meanwhile Paul Joseph Watson says that anyone who things this is a once off, is naive.

Thanks Trump.

"Why the Syrian Gas Attack Is Probably Fake"

http://www.theoccidentalobserver.net/201...ably-fake/

You're going to not know the real situation, in absolute terms, forever - if the following is true (and which I've heard before from another source): sarin gas is easily and quickly made - and in small quantities that remain lethal to masses of people:

Quote:The Assad regime either used existing sarin or made new stocks of the nerve agent in its attack. Only 10 to 20 grams of sarin are required for such an attack, say military officials, and sarin can be created within a day if the ingredients and equipment are available.
_ _ _

Despite the evidence that stocks or equipment still exist, Pentagon officials told NBC News that the U.S. has yet to find chemical weapons storage or production facilities that it can target. Syria was required to destroy all such facilities under the 2013 agreement, but creating small batches of sarin can be accomplished in much smaller facilities than were destroyed earlier this decade. As one U.S. official noted, "you don't need a lot of sarin to wreak horrible devastation."

[Nevertheless,] Trace elements of sarin and the nerve agent VX were found at a facility that the Assad regime never declared in May 2015,
according to Reuters.

Thus, Assad shows himself playing games much like Saddam Hussein did. The father of a neighbor of mine was a US WMD inspector in Ukraine, and then a WMD inspector for the UN in Iraq during the 1990s. Both are playing similar games, according to him.

As NBCNews writes:

Quote:The OPCW, a UN agency, issued a statement Friday that reiterated its position from 2016, which was that it was "not able to resolve all identified gaps, inconsistencies and discrepancies in Syria's declaration and therefore could not fully verify that Syria had submitted a declaration that could be considered accurate" or that it was in compliance with the 2013 agreement.

OPCW also noted how extensive its efforts have been, making 18 visits to Syria, holding meetings with Syrian authorities, and visiting former chemical weapons sites.
http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/why-do...ns-n743956

Assad was supposed to give up all banned chem weaps; he agreed to it in 2013. But he plays games that leave equivocal room for doubt.

But there's more. Soil samples from the other day's attack have been sent to western labs to determine by chemical analysis if sarin gas was used, and evidence released by DOD on Friday shows that they had tracks of the planes over their target at the correct times, both going back to the base hit by Tomahawk cruise missiles:

[Image: Evidence-of-the-attack-from-Shayrat-Air-Base.png]

So, the circumstantial evidence is there, and it may well tighten soon.

Will it be enough to remove all doubt? Given the statements above that I started out with, no. Circumstantial evidence ought to have convicted OJ in a double murder, but more than some still agree with the "not guilty" verdict and believe that was justice.

Intel is rarely binary and absolute. Intel is often fluid, conditional, and uncertain.

Still, National Security Advisor H R McMaster speaking in Florida said on Friday that "measures put in place to avoid hitting what we believe is a storage of sarin gas, so that that would not be ignited and cause a hazard to civilians or anyone else." In other words, he believes his intel enough to avoid a possible store of the bad stuff.

Finally, some here are bitching at the cost and relative lack of damage. Doesn't this make it a meaningless attack?

First, I don't think Trump is trying to take sides in this civil war. Between various spokespersons, The Guardian characterized the President's stance towards the Assad regime as equivocal.

Similarly, Trump didn't want to piss off the Russians by taking 'sides.' SOS Tillerson still meets at the Kremlin next week. Communications with Putin may well improve in a week or next month.

The point of the attack was to deliver a decisive 'brush back pitch' at Assad NOT to go THERE with chem weaps. Because if he does, next time there will be real damage done and great loss inflicted.

And the latter message is generalizable Trump's dealings with other hostile powers.

The only absolute delivered was stated by Haley at the UN security council: Assad must never use chemical weapons.

Just for the record, I'm assuming that all the pro-intervention folk crawling out of the woodwork wailing and gnashing their teeth over the fate of the poor Syrian wimmins and chillens would on principle demand immediate military action against North Korea and China for human rights abuses that make the gassing of a few civilians look like a picnic at the park.

RE: The Syria conflict thread [re-titled]
Quote:‘They’re terrified that peace was going to break out’ – Ron Paul on US Syria strike
https://www.rt.com/usa/384021-ron-paul-syria-strike/

“A victory of neo-conservatives” – that’s how Ron Paul, a former member of the US House of Representatives and three-time presidential candidate, described the US strike on Syria, adding that he does not expect peace talks to resume any time soon.

Speaking to RT, Ron Paul said that there is no proof of Damascus’ guilt that could trigger such a rash and violent response from the US.

“I don't think the evidence is there, at least it hasn’t been presented, and they need a so-called excuse, they worked real hard, our government and their coalition.”

This is not the first time something like this has happened in Syria or elsewhere, Paul said, but now it is convenient to pay attention and react immediately.

“If any of this was true, I don’t know why they couldn’t wait and take a look at it. In 2013, there were similar stories that didn’t go anywhere, because with a little bit of a pause, there was a resistance to it built in our Congress and in the American people. They thought that it was a fraud and nothing like that was happening, and right now, I just can’t think of how it could conceivably be what they claim, because it’s helping ISIS, because it’s helping Al-Qaeda.”

“From my point of view, there was no need to rush. There was no threat to national security. They have to give a reason to do these things,” Paul added.

A factor that contributed to the speedy reaction was of course the US president, the politician told RT.

“I have no idea what his purpose was. Maybe he just didn’t want to hear the debate, because the last time they debated it, they lost. And this time, it was necessary for them to jump onto this, before people came to know what was really going on.”

The Syrian situation now is “a victory for neo-conservatives, who’ve been looking for Assad to go,” Paul said.

“They want to get rid of him, and you have to look for who is involved in that. Unfortunately, they are the ones who are winning out on this, and the radicals, too! There is a bit of hypocrisy going on here, because at one minute we say, well, maybe Assad has to stay, the next day he has to go, and we’re there fighting ISIS and Al-Qaeda. At the same time, what we end up doing is we actually strengthen them! It is a mess."

“I don’t believe that our people or the American government should be the policemen of the world, it makes no sense, it causes us more trouble and more grief, it causes us more financial problems, and it’s hardly a way that we could defend our constitutional liberty.”

This policy clearly does not lead to peace, Paul told RT.

“The peace talks have ended now. They’re terrified that peace was going to break out! Al-Qaeda was on the run, peace talks were happening, and all of a sudden, they had to change, and this changes things dramatically! I don’t expect peace talks anytime soon or in the distant future.”

Last but not least, the politician spoke out about the deeper reasons – and potential disastrous consequences – of the latest attack’s timing.

“I was wondering about the fact that the announcement came when Trump was talking to Xi [Jinping, the Chinese president]. And of course, [North] Korea’s high on the list of targets for our president and our administration. It might be a warning: this is what’s going to happen to you if you don’t do what we tell you. I just don’t like us being involved in so many countries, in their internal affairs; I think it’s so detrimental.”

Honestly, some of these photos seem too perfect and like propaganda to make him seem less of a dictator or 'evil'.

I support keeping him in power because we've already seen what happens when regime change happens. Best to let them sort out their own mess.

But we need to understand there's lots of misinformation coming from both sides.

Sure, he's too cozy with North Korea and Iran for comfort...but at this point, do we want this to be a third disaster next to Iraq and Libya?

Everything I've ever read says Assad is secular.

Quote:"The president guarantees religious minorities’ rights, Christians are allowed to practice their faith freely and churches are protected. Assad generally hands out important government and army posts to members of his own group, the Alawis, but Christians also hold a number of senior positions in important institutions such as the presidential guard and intelligence services. The head of the country’s central bank is a Christian, as is the new defense minister. Many Christians belong to the ranks of the privileged within the system, and few have yet dared to take the step of joining the opposition, not when they are held so closely in the president’s embrace."

O definitely. It's no question that which side they back. Though their presence is necessary, as basically the entire establishment media back the other side. It's a timely balance. I appreciate that they provide pictures and raw photos calling out the other side' propaganda (Bana). It all goes back to the Shia/Russia vs. Sunni/Globalists alliance for now. And these 2 girls and a couple of others (Mostly Lebanese) all back the former, and you can see their dislike of Israel through their tweets. It's an infowar after all.

Speaking of Bana, she's blocked Cernovich on twitter Big Grin

She must be the most tech-savvy 7 year old to have ever lived. From finding HQ wifi/upload speed in war torn besieged cities, to her amazing punctuation, grammar in tweet writing, and now knowing how to block others (Cerno hadn't even @ at her ever).

Now, that is proper propaganda, that Tapper asks his followers to follow a 7 year old (who is now living in castle in Turkey) for more news from Syria.

This is the age of "Who can show the saddest baby photos" politics to drive people' emotion and political narrative (be it to drive the migrant crisis in Europe, or push for intervention in Syria) . And it sets a dangerous precedent as Taleb puts it.
