V for Vendetta just stole fire and ideas from Equilibrium, and for a ridiculous outcome (bad movie in almost all aspects, whereas Equilibrium is great).

sidebar, but V for Vendetta is a comic book written by Alan Moore (same author as Watchmen) Moore never wanted any of his works made into movies but is also one of the heroes of anarchism, a luciferian/follower of Alister Crowley and a literal practicing magician.

Put all that together and you've got a very eerie conspiracy theory as to why anonymous uses V for vendetta as its icon.
