My bad, I searched for "save" and couldn't find anything related. How do you guys find these old related threads? Is it mostly from memory, or am I just incompetent with search terms?

My sister saved a shit ton and then lost it all in the stock market. It affected her mentally ever since. She has no desire to be rich now. Just work, pay bills and then die.

RPG- how did your sister lose so badly in the stock market? Like, did she go heavy into high-risk biotech small caps on margin or something? Options? Tanzanian stock market?

My ex-wife was really good at saving money, but horrible at investing it.

"Hank, our savings, you took $20k and put it into that shithole house up the street?"
"Yeah, I bought it on the cheap. Next year I could probably fix it for $80k, but I think I'm just going to sit on it."
"That's so much money!"
"Right, but that money is going to make us more money."
"What about retirement?"
"Yes, exactly..."
"But what if the market crashes? What if it burns down?"
"Babe... you've gotta take some risks if you want to make real money. If we save $5k a year for 10 years, that's $50k. We couldn't retire off $50k - that's not even a year's worth of our income."

That said, most women I know are impulsive spenders. Handbags, shoes, dinners, lattes, clothes, you name it. Their bank accounts are constantly overdrawn, and they're complaining that they won't have any money until next week when they get paid.

It certainly isn't universal, and nowadays most guys are just as bad. I have a handful of male friends who are rubbish with money management. One of them is making 6 figures and still living paycheck to paycheck, and his gf is the better one with money.

And to be fair, I've met at least a handful of women from Philippines/Indonesia/Vietnam who've saved up to launch a modest business (no idea how successful they were). A lot of the times these women know they can't always rely on a reliable provider, so they do what they must to become self sufficient.

But at least in my experience, it's been mostly men I've come across who have saved simply because their needs were already being met. It's no secret that women account for most of the consumer spending in our society. It's not a home run, but I think there's something to it.

One of my long term relationships is a gym teacher..and when you talk to her..It becomes obvious that she isn't the brightest person when it came to a lot of subjects.
Even get dad told me that add a teacher himself, he knows she has some sort of learning disability.

But she happens to be great saving money..But horrible investing out.
She had tens of thousands saved..But didn't understand that it would be better to pay the couple grand of debt she had.

I tend to leave girls better than I find them. It took a call between me and her dad to get her to realize paying all her debt left her savings account at more than a lot of young people's year income.

I've had a stream of girls both American and foreign that have no problem saving..saving is simple. But they have no idea out realization about investing for the future.


I don't even see this as a flaw though.
This is a double edged sword.
Some of you complain that women should be more feminine, conservative ect.
If women are suppose to stay home with the family.. They will not have an income to save.
A lot of women aren't gonna save because their needs are met by some dude that lives in Atlanta that she only sees when she feels obligated.

Damn, how did you guess? Exactly. And she thought she was so smart. Somebody put her on to it and she got fucked hard.

Be filthy rich is a matter of square footage in my book. I am not too interested in that.
My sister wanted to live to impress and failed spectacularly.
