Jakarta attack
There was another terrorist attack today in Jakarta, Indonesia. It seems like IS terrorists really want to escalate things. Paris, San Bernadino, Istanbul, and now Jakarta.

http://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-asia-35309116

Or was it a terrorist attack by a neomasculine group? One attack took place at a Starbucks after all. Huh

Depends. Are the attackers carrying liposuction equipment?

RE: Jakarta attack
Can't say I'm happy to see Thamrin attacked. Though I find it interesting to see ISIS (if they are behind it, to me on video it seemed quite unprofessional) attack Muslim countries in locations that aren't typical Christian (or other minority) targets.

Let's hope Starbucks understood the terror, and start making better coffee from now on.

strange. On the morning news it was just like "oh, terrorists bombed a starbucks" not gunfire and multiple attacks.

RE: Jakarta attack
that is some good terrorist strategy right there. Detonate bomb, let crowd gather then start firing from the rear.

I know it is not 'nice' to say it, but if you are dumb enough to run up to a dangerous situation just to film it with your phone you can't complain much about being shot in a second wave (I'm talking about civilians, its the job of police to run up)

RE: Jakarta attack
People on Indonesian news site Kompas are noticing how unprofessional and undisciplined the police were in letting the usual mob of idlers take over the crime scene, making it easy for the shooters to approach undetected.
The bystanders themselves are, of course, morons. Here cops take cover while the masses seem completely oblivious that bullets can go astray:

In the end, the attack was primitive and ineffective. It certainly won't prevent me from revisiting "21 Billiards," a quite nice pool hall right across from the Starbucks, next time I am in town.

RE: Jakarta attack
On the ground here in Jakarta (third time in the last few months). Been staying near Kuningan City Mall the first two days (there was supposedly a grenade attack near Kuningan as well, but it was a false report).

Was supposed to stay exactly opposite (on Wasim, but across Thamrin) that Starbucks (Sarinah Mall) tonight, but as its likely overrun by press 24/7, I've changed my booking to elsewhere.

Things are calm here - people (girls) were mostly freaked out yesterday, but in general it had little effect on a city this size, other than the fear spread (which was palpable).

I'm not leaving early (here for another week or so), and I'm not hiding in my hotel, nor do I think there's any reason to.

If you're coming, just come. Shit just went down way worse in BKK, and I don't think things have changed a lick there. Two girls in two days (one new, one a repeater I picked up in Immigrant). Put on your big boy pants and we'll see you here.

I've referral links for most credit cards, PM me for them & thanks if you use them
Strip away judeo-christian ethics ingraining sex is dirty/bad & the idea we're taking advantage of these girls disintegrates. Once you've lost that ethical quandary (which it isn't outside religion) then they've no reason to play the victim, you've no reason to feel the rogue. The interaction is to their benefit.

I'm heading there shortly. I think somewhere in the back of my mind I anticipated this would happen.

But all my friend had to say was, "you gonna let a couple bombs bother you?". Haha. I'll be wearing my big boy pants and heading over.

Global Entry, you know I usually love your posts man, but I have to say that your last one is in bad taste.

You just spent a couple paragraphs breaking down logistics for fucking girls, without a hint of sympathy for the people who just got gunned down at point blank range by terrorists only blocks away for you. This just happened 24 hours ago.

I'm obviously not suggesting you spend the rest of your vacation sobbing in your hotel and I'm sure guys appreciate the on-the-ground intel, I just think there's a better way to word it or maybe another thread it could be posted in as to show a little more respect for the people who were killed/injured in this still unfolding story.

RE: Jakarta attack
Compiling a list of groups responsible for the most recent terror attacks after combing through some threads here. Utterly chilling:

Buddhists
Australian sex tourists
Byzantine separatists (Make Constantinople Great Again)
Drivers of all cars besides hybrid Priuses (indirectly via global warming)
Rednecks
"Asians"
"Men"*
"Disenfranchised Young People"

Looks like we have a new watch list for global terror cells. Good thing too, because for a while there all those scary accusations about Islam were starting to sound true!

Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.

RE: Jakarta attack
E. Count again. All due respect I spent several paragraphs talking about the situation I'm in with no references to bedding girls and half a sentence in the last paragraph mentioning that.

I wrote the post to let those who already made plans know its fine to come in. In fact there are guys coming on tonight as they were previously scheduled to do. I'm not without sympathy but that just isn't what I was addressing here.

We can respectfully disagree but I'm not ashamed or regretful of what I wrote. I didn't denigrate the Indonesian people in any way with my post nor do I in person, which you'd know if we'd met.

Yes, you are talking about your situation, as in your logistics to bang girls. That's what I said.

I never said you denigrated the Indonesian people, I was simply pointing out that there are probably better places to post pure travel advice.

Regardless of the fact that there are pictures of people's brains hanging out of their head just posts above yours, do you think someone landing in Jakarta tonight is more likely to check the Everything Else or the Travel section? Probably the latter, right?

Whereas people who want to discuss international news, Islamic terrorism, etc. would post here. Many of the people who post in the Travel section avoid this one and vice versa, as I'm sure you're aware.

Not to mention that posting in the Travel section gives the post more of an "evergreen" quality, where future travelers can still benefit from it long after this thread is buried.

But I didn't intend to make a huge argument out of it or derail the thread. Like you said, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Sympathy for a friend reinforces friendship. Sympathy for random strangers is not useful to anyone but left wing politicians.

Not speaking for G E or accusing you of anything, just making a philosophical point.

I booked my tickets to Jakarta before the bombing. Thought about cancelling, but then decided to go anyway. Will be there for a couple of weeks starting Feb 6.
