One of the first acts of the new mayor of Philadelphia was to re-declare Philly a "Sanctuary City":

People in Philadelphia better get ready for a revolving door where such scum can commit more heinous crimes when they inevitably find themselves back on the streets. If the people knew Kenney was going to do this when they elected him, they deserve it.

I wonder how costly it would be if the federal government stopped giving the city of Philadelphia money for its schools and highways. The feds would have to cut money to the state. Betcha some actions would move real fast in Harrisburg if the federal government withheld money from that bankrupt state.

While I dont want Philly becoming a "sanctuary city". I think everyone isnt exactly correct here. It is a clearly a function of the federal government to enforce immigration laws; not the City of Philadelphia. Which is a point well stated in the order. Cities also need people to cooperate with police to solve crimes. (The real reason i believe this was made since kenney is a unión guy).

Fact is, feds need to get their shit together on immigration. But Philly wasnt a destination for illegals anyway so I dont think this will be a major change to the city. This was the same policy they had a couple years ago. Mexican population for example is quite low here compared to other major cities.

But what happens when the federal government doesn't enforce immigration law? As we saw in the case of Arizona, they went after a state for an attempt to enforce it when the federal government wouldn't. Eric The Holder when nuclear on Arizona's ass for trying to do the job Prince Obama wouldn't.
I don't quite get why Kenney did this his first day in office. The picture of the Asian lady who stood next to him making the fist salute tells me a lot. I note the comments about this action are livid. Black and white folks screaming at Kenney for selling them down the river.
Its a subtle way for the people who run Philly to tell the great unwashed American proles they are replaced with a new people who will shut up and follow orders.
Mexican population quite low in Philly compared to what? When I moved here twenty years ago you hardly saw anyone from South of the boarder. Now I see four Latin stores in my town outside Philly. Did all the people who work in back rooms of the resteraunts apply to immigrate and come here legally? What about the Spanish-speaking day jobbers I see all over the landscape? Somehow I don't think they're from Porto Rico.
Its the black kids sitting on the corner North of Center City I feel sorry for. The mayor has just told them they aren't needed. Gentrification will now proceed full throttle and would you please remember to vote Democrat when you move to Norristown?

There is a major shitstorm brewing in Harrisburg because the governor wants to crank up the taxes to pay for expenditures the commonwealth has incurred. The governor is some poindexter white guy the Democrats convinced to run against the other white guy on the platform of not being the other white guy. He won and one of his first acts was to appoint a tranny as surgeon general for PA. I am not making that one up. Too bad he can't change the orientation on the budget because Harrisburg is in some deep crap with the Republicrats who control the legislature. EVery time he wants to raise taxes they tell him to go f*ck himself.

There are 15,000 mexicans or mexican descent in Philadelphia. Thats 1% of the City and its lower in the burbs I believe(though you might have to Check that). Compared to about 10% nationally.

What keeps most Mexicans out of the east coast and southeast are the other dominant latino ethnicities. Now, imagine a future when Mexicans start bumping into large Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Colombian enclaves. Not to mention various illegal central American ethnicities just as thirsty for a piece of the American pie.

Will there be latino solidarity and a joining of cultures to celebrate the rise of spanish as the official language?

You misunderstood what I had to say. I meant that the people coming to my area AREN'T PR. I don't have a problem with PR, they are automatically US citizens. The people who work around me aren't here legally.

For those of you stating the sanctuary cities should not hold illegals that have been picked up on local charges as it's the Fed's job to go find them; What if the guy robbed a bank in some other state? Kidnapped someone and took them over state lines? What if he's on the FBI's most wanted list?

I guarantee you they hold those guys until the Fed's show up.

Philly is a lot more economically diversified than Detroit and has a lot better 'bones' than Baltimore. Way too much eds & meds, jewish money, and proximity to nyc to turn into detroit.

That said, it is a ridiculous policy and one that I can't make political sense of because Philly has a lot of blacks and ethnic whites unlike west coast cities. Ethnic whites and blacks don't really view illegal immigration in a positive light.

Philly and Boston are the preeminent examples of American cities that have their economies partly anchored by this. Unlike most other sectors (finance, tech, autos, cpg, mfg, tourism, etc) Eds & Meds has high government intervention in financing and low price elasticity with respect to demand, which makes them more economically stable.

Philly is a dump because of demographics - put Seattle's or SF's demographics in Philly and it would skyrocket in real estate value, desirability, etc.

I agree on the demographics. It's one of the reason Kenney signed order. The Great and Good are doing their best to get the proles out of Philly so they can move into the prime real estate.
