Power v Empire (TV series)
I looked for any threads about Power and Empire series and came up short. Just watched a few episodes of 50 cent's Power and was blown away. It is fast paced edge of your seat stuff. I thought Empire was alright but Power is way more John Blaze.

Don't debate me.

I've watched both. All in all they are quiet different and I prefer Power to Empire. Empire is about a dysfunctional family that is in the music business. It is more like a mix of a drama and a soap opera. On the other hand, power is about a drug baron with a family, who is contemplating quitting the drugs game and being a legit businessman, except there are too many loose ends for him to ever be able to tie up, plus he starts a relationship with the attorney who is investigating him.

Empire sometimes tends to stretch credulity in various ways. Also, the pacing of the story was sometimes inconsistent, especially during season 1. The original music is decent and they've managed to bring in some high profile guest actors. It goes quite heavy on the gay rights theme too. However I feel they have already exhausted some of the novelty during the yet to be completed second season, and it remains to be seen if there will be a third season or not.

Power is well-written, sometimes really gritty, and the casting is good. It really lends itself to binge watching, which I did do. The plot elements are absorbing. It has some racy sex scenes and real violence. I'm looking forward to season 3 starting around June 2016, apparently.

I watched Power after this thread, and it was great. It's far from perfect though.

The two male leads are thirsty as fuck. I actually got bored of seeing him fuck that old latin lawyer chick. The redhead wasn't much better. Both of those men would be doing much, much better. Hell, Ghost's wife was pretty fucking smoking.

It also had a serious case of "You Fucking Protagonists Need To Talk To Each Other."

It's clear that there was a basically unbreakable trust between the main trinity, especially between Tommy and Ghost, and lots of not telling each other important shit.

The whole plot with 50 Cent was pretty ridiculous.

I just tried Empire. I lasted about 15 minutes. I don't like any of the characters and the pilot seems like nothing more than a setup for a soap opera.

There's even a fag kiss right from the get-go. I don't want to watch that smut.

RE: Power v Empire (TV series)
Power is a vastly superior show. Better acting, less of a cliched soap opera feel, and more credulity. Empire goes out of its way to send messages (usually in relation to controversial social or political issues, like gay rights and fat acceptance) and offer fanservice (big name guest stars shoehorned into roles they don't really seem fit for just to drum up attention - Chris Rock miscast as some big-time ganster, anyone?) in a way that is simply too telegraphed and cliche for me. It has all of the issues commonly associated with network tv.

Power does some of the same things, but it is much better at it (ex: you get your gay characters, but their homosexuality isn't in your face every two seconds; you get your big names shoehorned in, but they're not miscast skinny comedians pretending to be gangsters). The acting is better, the action is a little more raw, the drama keeps you in that edge-of-your space seat without looking too try-hard or cliched in doing so, and fewer punches are pulled, the music leaves nothing to be desired relative to Empire, the women are still fine, and the writing is top-notch.

It isn't really a fair comparison because one of these shows is on cable and the other is on network TV. Put Empire on Starz, Showtime, HBO, or even a later slot on FX with some capable writers free of standard network TV constraints and we'd have a whole new ball game.

I've been watching Power. It definitely isn't red pill.

There's a huge dose of NAWALT and a serious investment into teaching that you just need to "find the right girl."

The white gangster, for example, goes after a girl who works in the club. She constantly rebuffs him and shit tests him (he fails every shit test) in a way that no guy drug kingpin who is used to calling the shots would put up with. A realistic red pill outcome would be her being reduced to a cleaning lady getting no tips. That's how a gangster would handle a dumb bitch who disrespected him.

Of course, after failing every shit test, the girl ends up fucking him anyway. And surprise! She wants sex over and over again! What a woman! Good thing he cut off his balls in put them in her purse! It was worth it! That's what it takes to land a good woman!

Fuck off, Hollywood.

Definitely not red-pill. Still mildly watchable.

Never saw Empire. Power is pretty good. It's a little soap-y and predictable but it's better than 90% of what's else on TV.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who got tired of these sex scenes. It was like the writers said to themselves, "we cant think of what else to put in this 1 hr episode so let's just insert a sex scene to make our show edgy! tee hee!"

I like fiddy. I thought his character was one of the most interesting along with the irish guy.
