I wouldn't say the class system plays much of a factor not bars that are generally open to the public. I think it works like any other bar, as in it ends up attracting a type of crowd and that's just that. I'll take two bars in my town as an example. One which never charges an entry fee but has classy people and the other which charges on Saturdays and is quite a dive.

One that doesn't charge is quite small, gets packed easily but has expensive drinks along with a strict dress code. It attracts a higher class of people and has no fights. This venue looks amazing from the outside too, looks like an old gothic castle.

One that charges has cheap drinks (Sambuca shots for £1 etc), no dress code and multiple bars dotted around the place. It quite often attracts people looking for fights and is of lower class. Walking behind this place during the daytime it looks like a prison (high walls with barbed wire etc)

The only times I can think class plays a factor is members only establishments. These venues will typically charge an annual subscription fee on top of an entrance fee and will allow you to bring a few friends along to who will also pay an entrance fee. These places is where you will notice the real class difference. The guys there will be of a higher social class (as they feel it necessary to pay annual fee) and the girls will be of the highest quality too. These private nightclubs is where celebrities will hang out.

Another thing to bear in mind would be the age difference between the dailymail article and some of the pictures CBW posted. He mentions the four blonds are all in their 30s whereas the majority of the Dailymails pictures are of girls in late teens/early 20s. So going out and getting shitfaced is still new to them.

Our legal drinking age is 18 in England.

You are forgetting location.

I can tell you approximately which class a person is from depending on which suburb or bit of countryside around my city they live.

I've said this before on here but I cannot tell you the number of times that I still get asked by people, on first meeting, what school I went to. I'm 34.

In the U.K. how often do men in a higher class marry down versus higher class women that marry down.

I probably already know the answer to that as it should be obvious in the anglosphere but i'm curious as to how prevalent it is compared with the past.

I've just had a think about this.

The answer is no, not really.

You have to remember that class and finances are, although slightly correlated, two separate rankings of social status.

So you will find men marrying down on one category but not the other. And then only by one ranking (it's the easiest way to think about it although this ranking is obviously not real or discrete).

Women never marry down. I can't think of one person I know who has.

The problem is there's this brief period of life in your 20's where you've got this moronic notion that nightclubs are actually a good place to go. So you put up with the horrid loud noise, chest-puffing idiots, women who look like they escaped from a bodyworks plasticization vat, and ten dollar domestic beers. And apparently now you also get murdered by immigrants afterwards.

Once you hit your 30s you get smart and go back to drinking the way you did as a teenager: house parties.

There are plenty of reasons for us to caution each other about going out on one of the year's most chaotic nights and even plenty more for cautioning against getting this drunk in public, but this example just comes across as fearmongering to me. Two good reasons I don't go out on NYE: the roads are full of drunk-driving assholes and predatory cops are looking to bust somebody for a DUI. Chances are, habitual drunk drivers will get away and some poor schmuck who had maybe three beers is going to get busted.

I think this idea originated from some confused wording in the OP. It's not true; the girl was raped, the guy was not.

If something about a news story, a study, a claim, and so on, seems very unusual, strange, or illogical, it's worth checking if it's actually true. Very often, information gets incorrectly reported, lost in translation, or is based on a single unreliable claim that is repeated by others without any verification. Use your common sense and a rough and ready instinct for likelihoods and orders of magnitude.

Another example was today's thread about "150" armed militia men supposedly occupying a government building in Oregon. This struck me as a somewhat implausibly large number. It's not that easy to organize 150 people for an undertaking. So I read further, and sure enough, the number of 150 was based on a single claim from one of the militiamen (who has an obvious interest in exaggerating the number), while an outside visitor to the site estimated the number as closer to 15.

These things don't matter too much if it's just a random news story, but it can be a problem when guys start basing their decisions or behaviors on some ill-reported, confused, or misunderstood "studies" and the like. Always ask: does it make sense? Does the number sound about right? Is this the sort of thing that would normally happen? And so on.

Final tip: if you're going to read any piece of text -- a news story, an article, an RVF post, etc -- then, even if it means little to you, it's always worth reading with attention. It doesn't take that much more time, and it's a good habit to get into. Always reading with attention, and always listening with attention, is probably the single best thing you can do if you want to become smarter and better informed.

You are technically right, the newspaper says that only the woman was raped, but, the man was indeed found (partially) naked on the floor. So, I assumed that, logically, he had been at the very least molested, if not penetrated: what other reason for the murderer to get him naked? Anyway, it's just an unsavory detail in this very sad story, story that might have been avoided using some common sense (the obvious common sense of not letting a homeless stranger playing the Good Samaritan walk, at 4 AM, into one's apartment).
