What should I do with a week in Bavaria this winter? Heading in and out of Munich.

Anybody got recommendations for sites to see, places worth staying, music/opera to check out, or good gaming angles/clubs/etc?

Stuff I have tentatively planned/would like to check off:
-Nuremburg (have a friend who lives there plus see Nazi sites)
-Skiing if I recover well from the flight in (not a big skier but a few runs in the Alps would be a nice memory)
-Stuttgart (maybe a run down into the Black Forest?)
-FC Bayern game if they are home when I'm there
-Munich's beer halls
-Dachau

Less-likely:
-Neuschwanstein (been there a long time ago, I hear it's fogged in most of winter)
-Salzburg (been there a long time ago, the Eagle's Nest is closed in winter making this trip less of a draw, also want to keep it all Bavarian)

If you have the time, you could check out the thermal resort "Therme Erding". It´s not that far from Munich. You have various thermal baths, pools, saunas, and waterslides there. If you have a prospect, it would be a good idea for a date. Many couples go there, but I think gaming would also be possible.

These are both worthwhile especially No.1 though I don't recommend doing the second after the first while extremely hungover (speaking from experience).

I enjoyed Neuchwanstein a lot. If you don't feel like skiing I think you can still take a cable car up the Zugspitze. Something I didn't do myself, but would like to.

If skiing, look into the snow in the alps this (El Nino) year. In some recent years it has gotten very warm.

General sightseeing stuff: The central town square near the Rathaus and Englischer Garten of course. You'll hit those just walking around town to a beer hall.

FWIW I found the BMW museum not to be worthwhile. Definitely skip that.

A question for any locals, or for travelers that were in Munich last summer.

So this Girl (had a two week fling with her last spring) I'm meeting in Poland wants to do a weekend getaway and she has picked Munich. She specifically wants to see an Opera there. This trip would be in mid July. She brought this up last week, and has been looking up Hostels, plane tickets, basically setting things up. She hasn't bought anything so far.

I had just talked to a friend from my Australian working holiday days and he lives in Munich. He said last summer was atrocious for Migrants and the sheer number of them, on the streets, on public transport, loitering in the streets at night. He recommend not to go to Munich next summer, especially since Munich is the entry point city for all the Migrants from Greece, as Munich is the first large city the migrants encounter in Germany. Quite a few end up settling there as well. Germany is on track for 1.5 -2 million migrants next year. If strict border controls are not initiated by the summer, it's going to be a mess there he said. As summer will be the peak time for migrant movement,

So what it's going to be like in Munich this Summer fellas ?

I trust my friends advice, but I wanted a second or third opinion just to clarify, as she really wants to go there.

As for me, I'm mostly done with Western Europe. It's more expensive and frankly I just feel safer in the more conservative and homogenous eastern countries. I'd much prefer to have an excuse to go down to Hungary or Slovakia instead.

Jesus Christ...I thought 2015 was a one-shot deal because of the war in Syria, is Germany inviting in the entire second world south of Turkey?

I wonder how much of German politicians' compliance to the migrant hordes is them not wanting to have articles written comparing them to the Nazis.

It's really sad what is happening in Germany. I have a lot of good memories of that country. Even with the average German waking up to the media and political BS that country looks to be doomed.

The best way to bring back the Nazis is to keep admitting these Syrians. It is truly insane.

The best thing people can do is stay the hell away from Germany for now. The more the tourism collapses, the better. Things need to get a lot worse (as bad as they are now) before they will get better. For your own personal safety and for the sake of Germany, I recommend postponing your trip.

I am going to Cologne next weekend with some buddies. I have a local friend and to be honest quite curious how the atmosphere there is now. I have heard that some parts turned more dangerous but well let's see.

Or do guys here think it is too dangerous? Any local intel?

I was in Munich last summer, it was awesome. Nothing to worry about. The crime rates in Germany I bet are still lower than in the US. I've also traveled in some of the countries where the migrants come from and also didn't think they were anything to get your panties in a knot about.

I was in Cologne last summer, didn't notice anything amiss (although it wasn't a holiday). Keep your wits about you, stay around the good parts of town (within sight of the Dom) and I doubt it will be a concern. However, Cologne's club district is on the west side of the city and is kind of seedy, so keep aware.
